Words you cannot bear to read or speak or hear

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:03

I cannot bear to read or speak or hear some food related words. It is difficult for me to write them as I feel so ick about them but here goes:

Tasty
Delicious
Sweet treats (or just treats)
Snack
Yum
Nom
That slurpy face emoji (I refuse to put it here)

Uuuuuuurgh I feel ill now

What is wrong with me? Anyone else or am I a massive weirdo?

Gobsmacked, don’t know who originally came up with it but it’s horrible

IsThePopeCatholic · 11/01/2024 17:26

When adults refer to their parents as mummy and daddy.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/01/2024 17:36

Gonna, kinda, sorta.

Don’t mind so much hearing them, but reading them - 🤬

RaraRachael · 11/01/2024 17:45

I hate gobsmacked too.

Also peckish. My XH used to say it all the time when asked if he was hungry.

Are you tryna wind me up 🤣

BassoContinuo · 11/01/2024 18:06

No idea why, but I really hate the word “spends”

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/01/2024 18:08

squinker45 · 11/01/2024 17:16

@ifIwerenotanandroid there was a thread about how to euthanise a mouse on here yesterday. Someone advised to "pop it in a bag and then hit it with a brick." Which is strange kind of evil genius really in terms of use of the word 'pop'

@hogmanayhoolie I would have hidden it for repeated use of the word soup

Agreed. What a superb mismatch of the twee 'pop it in a bag' & the brutal 'hit it with a brick'. 🏆

Riapia · 11/01/2024 18:34

Tummy
Snuggly
Yummy
Cosy

willWillSmithsmith · 11/01/2024 20:15

‘Vanishingly’ is a godawful word. I’d never heard it until I came on MN and someone complained about it on a similar thread to this. Before then I’d never heard it but since then I’ve seen it pop up on recent threads. And they were right it is terrible. Who in real life EVER says that word?

ElevenSeven · 11/01/2024 20:16

‘Love Language’

ElevenSeven · 11/01/2024 20:25

‘Content Creator’

Slitheringheights · 12/01/2024 09:31

Life admin - god knows how I cringe when I read this on mn. But no one I know ever uses this saying.
yummy- a grown adult saying this is childish
tummy- same
poorly
supper as in evening meal. I’m cringing writing this 🤢

BingoMarieHeeler · 12/01/2024 18:43

Purdy & Figg 🤢 makes me want to break something. Sounds so smug. I think it’s the makers’ actual surnames but just ugh. Sooooo many ‘X&Y’ brand names around at the mo, it’s unimaginative, and that combo together is just SO unbearably twee.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/01/2024 10:34

Since I’ve just seen it elsewhere - ‘brekkie’. Ugh!

FiL used to call it ‘brekker’ which is almost worse.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 15/01/2024 11:16

Beginning a sentence with 'nah' instead of no. It may not be meant that way, but it sounds (and reads as) sneery and dismissive.

Xanadu58 · 15/01/2024 11:37

Nightie , can't bear it and any word for pyjamas that's not pyjamas .

Blahblarbleh · 17/01/2024 09:56

When you're on a work call and it finishes early so they say they are "giving you time back" oooooooh thank you, I'm beyond grateful 🙄

StarlightLady · 17/01/2024 10:00

It’s probably happening less than a few years back, but when people say “absolutely” instead of “yes”.

hogmanayhoolie · 18/01/2024 15:18

Just had to hide another thread where a presumably adult poster actually said

and now my belly is warm and full yum yum

Fucks dake

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/01/2024 18:54

Ditto to pamper/pampering, especially in relation to spa days/massages.

And it really gets up my nose when Brits write ‘ass’ when they mean ARSE!

(From Yanks it’s allowed.)

Ditto ‘math’ when in the U.K. it’s MATHS.

Oh, and ‘pissed’ when they mean pissed OFF.
Phew, I feel better now.

squinker45 · 19/01/2024 13:51
