Words you cannot bear to read or speak or hear

I cannot bear to read or speak or hear some food related words. It is difficult for me to write them as I feel so ick about them but here goes:

Tasty
Delicious
Sweet treats (or just treats)
Snack
Yum
Nom
That slurpy face emoji (I refuse to put it here)

Uuuuuuurgh I feel ill now

What is wrong with me? Anyone else or am I a massive weirdo?

Couscous - I don't like saying it, not sure why.

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:18

@TheTecknician does this also apply to words like 'tube' and 'tuesday'? I can see how it might annoy a person but I everyone does this

'AF' or 'Aunt Flo' for periods.

Anyone using that doesn't sound old enough to have them.

WaitingfortheTardis · 03/01/2024 11:18

@squinker45 Yes, it makes me think of the sound and feel when you rub your hand over it, which in turn makes me feel funny. I realize that probably is a bit strange.

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:16

@letmechange PENNIES yes that too. 'Can you send pennies to this account' for teacher present etc

Glad you understand.

Thought it was just me. It really grates!

DinaofCloud9 · 03/01/2024 11:19

When people on here say gently.
"I say this gently op but you are a vile person."
"Sit them down and gently tell them they stink."

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 03/01/2024 11:19

’sweet’ for pudding/dessert.

Also ‘gaslight’. It’s not the word itself, it’s the lazy misuse and all-purposeness of it I can’t bear.

ThreeRingCircus · 03/01/2024 11:20

Totally agree with "nom" , I can't bear it. Also "yummy."

I hate people saying "gifted" instead of gave or given as in, "I gifted my sister a handbag for Christmas" or "I was gifted some lovely perfume." ARGH!

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:21

for written words I have to stop reading threads on here or anywhere actually when people say 'loose' instead of 'lose'.

Or 'desert' instead of 'dessert'.

Might make me a snob but ffs it's not that hard is it?

CharliesAngles · 03/01/2024 11:21

Oh no @squinker45 you used one of mine in your OP 😆

Also ‘hubby’ and ‘little man’.

ForeverYellow · 03/01/2024 11:22

“Eye wateringly “when used with expensive for example , makes me cringe .
I also hate “ to fork out for” and “ chalk it up to experience “ . They all make me feel
nervous .

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:22

@ThreeRingCircus gifted. Awful. Actually the word gift winds me up not sure why

OP posts:
Prodel · 03/01/2024 11:22

Another one I see on here often, people using "think...". There's a thread at the min where a poster talks of taking her kid on holiday and says "think - France castle mouse". Why!!!!

apronbellybarbie · 03/01/2024 11:23

Fart, poo, turd, etc.

All make me feel incredibly uncomfortable, haha.

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:23

@Prodel sorry I can't tell what is meant by that? Think - France castle mouse seems to be four totally unrelated words?

OP posts:
FknOmniShambles · 03/01/2024 11:24

Scrummy and yummy. Just awful.
"Just been out for a yummy meal with my scrummy man." Fuck off.
Even worse when people describe a baby as "Scrummy."
Honestly makes me feel grim.

yogpot · 03/01/2024 11:24

Hubby. I really cannot bear it. I don’t even know why it bothers me or why I have such an immediate and judgemental response to the person who uses it. Definitely a reflection on me rather than the person.

FictionalCharacter · 03/01/2024 11:24

"Snuggly" which has completely taken over from the proper word, which is snug. So instead of "warm and snug" everyone says "warm and snuggly", which sounds like someone speaking baby talk to a toddler.

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:25

Babies sometimes describes as 'yummy' in my circles

oh dear

Scrotum, yuk worst word ever .

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 03/01/2024 11:26

My brother used to shudder at the word apricot, so of course we said it to annoy him all the time.

I had an issue with the word Thumbelina. I was given it as a reading book when I was at primary school and couldn’t bear to say the word out loud. When I was reading aloud to my teacher, I would stop and look at him, he’d say the word, and then I’d carry on. I’m sure he thought I just couldn’t pronounce it or something but the truth is it made me feel sick to say it!

Whataretheodds · 03/01/2024 11:28

"Going to the little boy's room"
"Panties" is GRIM
"Passed on" or "passed away" for someone dying used to rub me up the wrong way but I have accepted some people prefer a euphemism in that situation and if they were closer than me to the deceased who am I to criticise.

WellWillWoll · 03/01/2024 11:30

I also hate panties
But worst for all for me is Fanny. I hate it. Hate to hear it, hate to read it and would never ever say it myself!!!

I got deleted for responding to one such post. It honestly gave me the red flash.

Scrotum, yuk worst word ever .

It's not a great word in itself, plus it incorporates the word "tum".
