Words you cannot bear to read or speak or hear

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:03

I cannot bear to read or speak or hear some food related words. It is difficult for me to write them as I feel so ick about them but here goes:

Tasty
Delicious
Sweet treats (or just treats)
Snack
Yum
Nom
That slurpy face emoji (I refuse to put it here)

Uuuuuuurgh I feel ill now

What is wrong with me? Anyone else or am I a massive weirdo?

I think because they think it isn't posh.

What other word would you use for 'a meal' - if not 'meal?' Confused

Is there any other word?

Thank you. I also now know that saying toilet is common as well. Not that I'm going to change the way I speak.

Whaaa? So toilet is 'common?' Who the F is deciding this?! 😆

It was on a thread last weak. Apparently posh kids say bog and that is OK. Luckily I don't care how I speak. I'm from the Midlands and not posh.

Ooh - one thing that does rankle me is when someone is telling someone they don't have to do something that they don't want to do, and says 'you have agency.' AGENCY. I fucking hate that phrase 'you have agency.' It just makes my skin crawl when I hear it. I don't know why! 😆

Yeah posh kids DON'T say 'bog' for the toilet. 😂

Sorry, name change fail. I'm Gonks. It was a funny thread.

My friend was a book editor.

One of the other editors was terrified of spiders and had to have post-its placed over images of them and even the word ‘spider’ (they worked in kids books so it did pop up once in a while).

Nowordsformethanks · 04/01/2024 21:44

Diaspora.

This word ruins my apetite, makes my teeth itch and boils my piss altogether whenever I see or hear people say it.

Nowordsformethanks · 04/01/2024 21:46

Bird/chick/hen/cow - when it's used to describe a woman.

Nowordsformethanks · 04/01/2024 21:49

'Apropos of nothing' is the wankiest phrase in history and people who use it sound like wankers and OTT.

Blahblarbleh · 04/01/2024 21:59

My 6yr old hated the words "boney finger" from the book we read tonight....I totally get it!

H34th · 04/01/2024 22:15

I wince at 'idiot', 'hate', and 'stupid', especially in kids books and movies.

I cannot bear swear words.

And religion related words, when spoken as factual things/ happenings. Again- especially when little children parrot things they've accepted as facts in RE, because they are too young to grasp that they'd be taught something that may not be true (I.e. missed the 'some people believe' bit.

Beezknees · 04/01/2024 22:19

I HATE the word "lush". Just irritates me.

LionCubo · 04/01/2024 23:08

Poorly
Belly
Hehehe (when people type it on a text)
Sickie/germy/hurty - any unnecessary adding of -ie -y sound to words
Barbaric

snoofles · 05/01/2024 08:55

@VWCVVCWV I dislike the word because of the way it sounds. I dislike the 'eel' sound, especially when dragged out. For some reason it makes me think of old potato skins. It doesn't sound like an appetising word at all.

ThewaytoAmarula · 04/01/2024 20:13

No, it's not that! It just makes a hideous sound...meeeeel, mealy etc 🤢

marshmallowfinder · 05/01/2024 09:30

Cook off, fry off, swop out etc... Bloody nothing wrong with simply cook, fry, swop. Stop adding extra wanky words.

SinnerBoy · 05/01/2024 09:31

marshmallowfinder · Today 09:30

Oh yes, that's something I dislike, too. Also, things like "sip on."

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/01/2024 10:29

‘Judgey/judgy’ - I’ve only ever seen them on MN.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 05/01/2024 10:31

And ‘belly’, except in belly-dancer, when somehow it’s fine.
