Words you cannot bear to read or speak or hear

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:03

I cannot bear to read or speak or hear some food related words. It is difficult for me to write them as I feel so ick about them but here goes:

Tasty
Delicious
Sweet treats (or just treats)
Snack
Yum
Nom
That slurpy face emoji (I refuse to put it here)

Uuuuuuurgh I feel ill now

What is wrong with me? Anyone else or am I a massive weirdo?

I hate using the words "tits", "fanny" and "anus". Even for the correct anatomical words like "labia", I can't bear to say them for some reason.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 08/01/2024 21:24

Ooh yes, definitely "fart", "boils my piss" and "famalam"... what does that one even mean?!

And for some reason, the word "belly" always sounds slightly uncouth to me.

Get your ducks in a row has really started to irritate. I know it’s said with good intentions on MN but some threads have post after post saying it and it’s annoying. I realise it’s usually because the OP is very unhappy, so I feel a bit mean being irked by it.

Whataretheodds · 08/01/2024 21:35

Ooh - PAMPER
I can't stand the whole equivalence of a manicure etc with being pampered.

Sarah297 · 08/01/2024 22:18

squinker45 · 03/01/2024 11:23

@Prodel sorry I can't tell what is meant by that? Think - France castle mouse seems to be four totally unrelated words?

Think….”France castle mouse type of…..”
I think that’s how it reads like it’s describing something?

If ducks aren't being arranged in rows, people are being encouraged to "throw this one back". Reductive bloody nonsense.

Moist

Also he's being used instead of his.

And his for he's....

hogmanayhoolie · 09/01/2024 00:20

Had to hide a thread where the OP used cosy and snuggly in the first post.

Violinist64 · 09/01/2024 00:39

I am a real pedant and have many. Here goes:
Hubby
We're pregnant
The ick
Use your words (very condescending)
Picky bits
The rage
Meh
My bad
Furbabies
Loose when wanting to say lose
Would of/could of/should of instead of would have/could have/should have
(S)he has went instead of (s)he has gone
Poo by anyone over the age of five
Swearing of any kind.

Violinist64 · 09/01/2024 00:45

Also, I can’t stand the word job in the context of anything but employment. Even worse is jobby. I am sure it goes back to when I was very small and the euphemism in my family for number twos (l realise that is another euphemism in itself) was big jobs. I think it was common in those days. Horrible.

Babla · 09/01/2024 00:50

Hubby

Babla · 09/01/2024 00:51

My bad is awful

I'm so upset at myself for writing all of that out. Why is it making my teeth itch?! 😭🤢^

LaurieStrode · 09/01/2024 01:23

"Grands" for grandchildren
Littles

BetterThanFine · 09/01/2024 02:15

rolls up sleeves and unfurls scroll

Panties
Tummy if used by an adult to another adult
Picky bits. Brings to mind scabs and toenails.
The use of 'lush', unless you're Welsh.
The use of 'gotten' unless your Scottish. In anyone else it sounds like something a very young child would say instead of 'got'. Yes I know I'm being unreasonable. See also 'super' as in 'super fun/cute etc'.
Gorge instead of gorgeous.
Words used to apparently make it acceptable to charge more for something being sold: Vintage/retro/artisan/luxury/curated/sourced. Fine if they are genuine, but putting a small amount of glitter on a birthday card does not make it luxury and finding an outgrown child's t-shirt in the bottom of their wardrobe does not justify 'sourced'.
Words used to make the person using it seem important and/or charitable: Gifted, tasked and hosting.
Using 'date night' for activity with your spouse. Ugh.
My journey and holibobs: Please run towards my fist as fast as you're able.

And to Aurora 2023, upthread, a glare for introducing me to the phrase: treat plate'. No, no, no.

ThewaytoAmarula · 10/01/2024 13:57

Twee swearwords like wankpuffin, twatbadger, arsebiscuit, hedgehogfucker....

Just fucking swear and stop trying to be quirky and cute!

squinker45 · 10/01/2024 16:39

Well I just had to come back here and voice my disgust as I was reading a thread about HRT and someone said it made their skin 'moist and plump'

It was enough to put me off taking it

OP posts:
hogmanayhoolie · 11/01/2024 08:58

I had to hide an otherwise interesting thread about soups as it was full of "yum" as a sentence

Then there's "dewy." 🤪

I love a Christmas thread but they're littered with "treats" and "big ticket items" and "bits". The Christmas Eve dinner threads are full of "picky bits" and "meals". That's even before you get to people slinging a turkey in the oven and throwing some sprouts in a pan.

Squirrelsbite · 11/01/2024 17:00

From the ‘get go’
All the ‘trimmings’
Baby wearing

ifIwerenotanandroid · 11/01/2024 17:07

Pop (when used tweely to minimise something)
New-kew-lar
Joo-ler-eee
Slippy (i/s slippery)
Brought (i/s bought)

squinker45 · 11/01/2024 17:16

@ifIwerenotanandroid there was a thread about how to euthanise a mouse on here yesterday. Someone advised to "pop it in a bag and then hit it with a brick." Which is strange kind of evil genius really in terms of use of the word 'pop'

@hogmanayhoolie I would have hidden it for repeated use of the word soup
