Words you cannot bear to read or speak or hear

I cannot bear to read or speak or hear some food related words. It is difficult for me to write them as I feel so ick about them but here goes:

Tasty
Delicious
Sweet treats (or just treats)
Snack
Yum
Nom
That slurpy face emoji (I refuse to put it here)

Uuuuuuurgh I feel ill now

What is wrong with me? Anyone else or am I a massive weirdo?

How could I forget

‘Yummy Mummy’.

Denim? That’s niche.

this is ‘serge de Nimes’, where it was originally manufactured,
with dye imported from Lahore, sounding romantic ( to me)
whilst ‘denim’ sounds pedestrian and uninspired

Justleaveitblankthen · 07/01/2024 08:03

I loathe the word Tits.
Even typing it here is just 😳
I judge anyone who uses it.
It's gross.
Also, in Hollywood "Asshole" Everyone is one. Such lazy language.
I just get a mental image of an actual Anus 🤢

Ok, but how would you refer to, say, a jacket made from denim?

I don’t know of any other words that could be used.

That doesn’t mean some can’t dislike the sound of the word, of course - though I don’t find it ugly, twee or pretentious - or that they can’t dislike the fabric, but I’m stumped for how you’d avoid saying/writing it!

When someone is described as "padding" when walking round the house. I've read it in a few books and instantly makes me want to give up reading. So it will say for example 'Sophie padded into the living room'. I HATE it.

isn’t this what dogs do, or any animal with pads? even humans with Rudolph/dinosaur/Gruffalo slippers don’t pad ?
actually just remembered! my mum used to say when we were young,
stop padding about the house, when we were restless as rain all day,
perhaps this is a latent memory of yours, Elsa

SOxon · 07/01/2024 09:25

“Stay safe” - said a lot during covid and now seems to be used mindlessly

along with the equally ubiquitous, “take care of yourself” -
which is an adult version of me with schoolage children,
exhorting them to ‘mind how you cross the road!’

It's Latin; Clodius Pulcher was actually the ugliest bugger in Rome...

My mum and dad used to have his 'n' hers gardening shoes. The name of the shoe company printed on the inside of the shoes were 'Padders' - used to make me feel sick every time I saw them.

yes I cannot stand the stay safe. My family use it on messenger every single day. Now my mum uses it on hers. It gives me the cringe as it’s every single sentence. I’m ready to say something. Example
good night girls, stay safe.— Fecks sake I’m going to my bed. What’s going to happen???

The utterly irritating your and you're confusion. I cannot bear seeing it written incorrectly.

Also he's being used instead of his. 🤬

I see it all the time, even by some people who seem quite clever. It's so annoying.
