So sick of the constant rain…

There is torrential rain outside right now where I am (London). It sounds like a hurricane. But in general it feels like it has been a really grey and rainy winter - worse than usual…. Am I just imagining it or has it been really wet and miserable?

Definitely not imaging it. Where I am (NI) it's been torrential rain and gale force winds for weeks on end. I actually can't remember the last day where it stayed dry all day!

Crishell · 31/12/2023 00:43

It's been wet and miserable up in the North too.
It doesn't help that all the rivers are overflowing as well so there's loads of road closures.

Turtletotem · 31/12/2023 00:43

It's dreadful! I'm staying with family near London and sleeping in the living room. There's a bamboo wind chime hanging outside the window blowing about keeping me awake. Tempted to try find a ladder or steps and try to take it down 😆

imisscashmere · 31/12/2023 00:43

I’m awake listening to it too. This kind of weather makes me anxious at the best of times - we have a leaking roof now, so my chances of sleep are… low, to say the least 🤦‍♀️

Avacardo2023 · 31/12/2023 00:44

I'm in London and it's so torrential and loud I can't sleep. Really hope there won't be a lot of damage by morning - the fence was destroyed in the last storm.

Notcontent · 31/12/2023 00:46

@imisscashmere i know what you mean - I get anxious about stuff like that too

Also London, our bedroom is the loft conversion, I quite listening to it but the wind is lifting panels of the temporary roof next door.

On a positive note it wasn't dark when I walked the dog at 1630...

Moveoverdarlin · 31/12/2023 00:53

It’s been really abysmal. So depressing.

justjuggling · 31/12/2023 02:45

I’m in SE England and tonight we’ve had thunder and lightning plus torrential rain and howling winds. Feels like it’s been raining solidly for weeks.

mondaytosunday · 31/12/2023 02:54

Yes. Climate change. Weather patterns are worsening in many places.

R4D4 · 31/12/2023 02:56

Absolutely sick of it. It's depressing and claustrophobic to have grey skies all the time. I need to do lots of things in my garden but absolutely not doing it in rain and ridiculous winds. Another dismal winter just like last year. Let's just hope for a 2022 style summer not a 2023 one!!

Yozzer87 · 31/12/2023 08:31

Every time I've been out over the last few days I've ended up soaked to the skin ( NW).

Dragonbed · 31/12/2023 08:35

Yes. It’s dismal. I can count on one hand he number of times I’ve seen a patch of blue sky this December.

Muststopeating · 31/12/2023 08:41

Well it could be worse .. instead of just being a bit wet or it being a bit noisy you could be in North East Scotland.

My husband has been digging ditches and trenches in an effort to keep the rain out of our house everyday for a week, including Christmas.

Thousands of homes, including ours, have been without power, some for nearly a week. In rural Scotland no power often means no water (private supplies) and no mobile signal/4g, obviously also means no heating.

On the day it was particularly bad I had to take my 2 year old to have her dislocated elbow reset. While we were in the hospital all the roads closed and I cannot even describe to you how horrendous and long the trip home was. We were lucky to get home at all, hundreds of people were stranded completely and so many cars suffered catastrophic damage (that insurance won't cover).

I know the constant rain is depressing, but perhaps a bit of perspective of how bad it could be (and really we still don't have it that bad here) might help pull you out of that slump a little?

Beezknees · 31/12/2023 08:52

Nope YANBU. I feel like it's rained to some degree every day since October. Can't remember the last time I saw dry pavements!

ssd · 31/12/2023 09:07

@Muststopeating , that sounds really awful, i hope your dds arm is healing poor wee soul.

I'm in Glasgow and the rain is non stop at the best of times. But the wind the other night was worse than I've ever heard, i think it moved down the country and London got it last night, it sounds the same.

It makes you long to move abroad somewhere nice you can actually get outside doesn't it?

Mairzydotes · 31/12/2023 09:11

Me too . Its been wet on the majority of Saturdays since July. There have been several events cancelled due to the wet and/ or the wind in the tha latter part of 2023. I feel like if I've worn a jacket, it's been a waterproof.

IClaudine · 31/12/2023 09:17

Yes, sick of it here too. We get a lot of rain normally, but it has been far worse this year.

ThePoshUns · 31/12/2023 09:24

It's so depressing. The rain, the grey skies and mud!
Dog walking is miserable.
I could cope with Winter if it was cold and crisp but this unending gloom is just awful.

Wherearemybooks · 31/12/2023 09:28

I actually quite like the rain, and mud, but even I am bloody sick of it!

It feels relentless atm.

Whinge · 31/12/2023 09:31

I agree, it was wet for a lot of the Summer, most of Autumn and pretty much all of Winter (So far). I don't mind a bit of rain, I even enjoy a heavy downpour, but it's been months of wet weather and i'm tired of having to wear waterproofs.

Crikeyalmighty · 31/12/2023 09:34

One reason we like going to Stockholm at new year - snowy , cold and dry - can't afford ski big but this is like a winter holiday without the ski prices. Reckon Uk now as expensive as Sweden - - eating out and drinking is now about same as London and south east

SalmonWellington · 31/12/2023 09:41

Climate change. Hotter summers, warmer and wetter winters

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 31/12/2023 09:42

Yep sick of it here too. Got out of the car yesterday onto what looked like a muddy grass verge. In fact it was deep mud and my foot went right in and l fell over.

Nightmare. Although it’s actually NOT raining here at the moment. But it is predicted for today,

megletthesecond · 31/12/2023 09:43

It's horrible even in Hampshire. I've got loads of laundry I want to get out but there are so few windows to do it in.
Using the tumble dryer will only make things worse <<sigh>>.
