So sick of the constant rain…

Notcontent · 31/12/2023 00:39

There is torrential rain outside right now where I am (London). It sounds like a hurricane. But in general it feels like it has been a really grey and rainy winter - worse than usual…. Am I just imagining it or has it been really wet and miserable?

Definitely been the worst I can remember and I am so fed up of getting wet
I am now it bed with an earache and temperature, sure it's down to the wind and constantly getting wet.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/04/2024 11:23

Pissing down here again

ScottishScouser · 04/04/2024 11:25

We moved to North East Scotland last summer. I don't mind the grey but it's particularly grey and cold. DH is wanting some sun back that we used to have in Devon. I keep telling him its grey everywhere not just Scotland.

It is utterly miserable in Devon, I hope that is some consolation!

Bloody lovely day in Glasgow of course I'm working Confused

grapeomelette · 04/04/2024 20:37

I am ancient and I've never known a winter like this for rain. It's beyond belief.

GoodnightAdeline · 04/04/2024 20:45

It’s utterly depressing and relentless.

Theraininspainfalls · 04/04/2024 20:52

I’m so so fed up with it but it seems to be the whole country that’s affected.

Notcontent · 04/04/2024 22:32

I can’t believe I started this thread 3 months ago and things are not any better!

it’s definitely not a case of us just being negative - it’s been in the news how it was the wettest February on record etc.

I have noticed that in many areas where I live (London) lots of brick fences, paved areas, etc are growing lots of green algae as they are just permanently damp. Normally they would dry out completely between rainy days.

Rain woke me up at 2 am last night. Still pissing down now.

Michiru · 05/04/2024 09:09

It's been raining daily, but mostly late evenings and at night here, with the odd shower during some of the days.

I've just got on with it now in the garden. No point in waiting too long; used a window between two showers about a week ago to deweed and plant some stuff, then have been outside since still getting rid of weeds. It's muddy, but doable and I've even found I can put the washing out and it will be mostly dry.

The things that are still waiting are the paint jobs and slightly larger building projects for the garden. It simply is too wet for that because the wood doesn't get dry for long enough for anything to be done.

Waiting for (a hopefully drier than last year) summer for those.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/04/2024 09:32

The sun is out < drops dead>

Doesnt look like it will last though.

BarrelOfOtters · 05/04/2024 09:34

managed over Easter to somehow hit enough nice days to go walking every day not in the pissing rain but a lot of mud....that was from driving down the country though.

But honestly, the garden is sodden, there's mud on all the dog walks and I'm fed up with it.

LaPalmaLlama · 05/04/2024 09:36

BBC reported that last 18 months were officially wettest since records began in 1836 ( for England- think Scotland has actually been drier than average). I guess at least we’ll have an export commodity when climate change really takes hold in southern Europe ( hollow laugh).

Mixedvegetables · 05/04/2024 09:40

Don't wish to be even more miserable than the current weather but this is our future you all realise? Climate crisis is happening right now, it's not some arbitrary date off in the distance. It will get worse and worse as we're failing to implement solutions quickly enough to mitigate it. Very depressing.

I read the entire first page without realising it was an old thread because every post is relevant to today (and almost every bloody day I can remember).

My local park (London) looks like a marsh.

I think the sheer amount of wind lately has actually been more unusual than the rain, which is merely as unpleasant as always. But the amount of time I find myself running or cycling into a headwind (somehow in both directions) seems more than normal, even for this time of year.

And yes, climate change, can't believe anyone is still in denial.

Gorgonemilezola · 05/04/2024 09:42

Wet and miserable. We had one frost over the winter and 2 snowfalls both of which barely hung around - and I'm pretty far north. Rivers and reservoirs full to the brim, in fact they're running off water from our local reservoir. Garden a sodden mess, haven't been able to do anything in it for months.

No doubt by June we'll be in drought conditions.

Summersun1924 · 05/04/2024 09:43

Weather is definitely shit. It makes everything feel so depressing. Been waiting to do the garden there's really no fresh spring feeling

RampantIvy · 05/04/2024 09:49

On another thread people are anxious about spring and summer and some are saying they love the rain.

Do they never go outside?

We are getting fed up with the limited walks we can do because everywhere that isn't paved is so muddy that even with the right footwear a walk becomes an endurance test and not an enjoyable past-time.

Labtastic · 05/04/2024 09:57

I am so sick of the mud. Everywhere. Ankle deep on every dog walk. We're in the south east with clay soil and every walk is 45 mins squelching and slipping. Even if the sun comes out it starts inexplicably pissing down with rain five minutes later.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/04/2024 10:06

I haven't used my favourite running routes in 6 months because ankle deep clay is barely slitherable, and not runnable.

Now the weather's getting past 10⁰C, the ĺawn's been getting tufty. I managed to get the mower out to take the tops off last week. ⅓ was un-mowably boggy with puddles in the flower beds, and even with a short session just taking the top off where needed, the rain was already coming back as I was packing up.

I generally like having a varied climate with seasons, but this doesn't feel like it. Perma-grey skies make me feel depressed rather than zen. Rain, wind and never ending mud make life harder. More faff (things like layering up to get out of the house). More psyching up to go out and get into nature. More cleaning to deal with the aftermath.

People that are used to gritting their teeth and getting on with life outdoors despite the weather are beyond fed up of it. It's now April; I want to be getting on with life not being snuggly wuggly with a blanket and hotty wotty chocyy or being splashy washy through puddles in my ickle puddle suit and wellies pretending I'm #makingmemories. (I just get fed up of the Hygge bunch pretending that shit weather isn't a thing)

And yes, I'm narked because it's been months since I fed my soul by running through the local countryside.

MidnightPatrol · 05/04/2024 10:11

On the plus side… at least it’s light in the evenings now.

While I am also sick of the wind and rain, at least it’s not getting dark by 5pm any more.

Blankscreen · 05/04/2024 10:26

Me too.

We have a pony and the field is actually like a pond.
I can't believe it is now April and there is still so much mud everywhere. It's a hassle walking the dogs and I'm fed up with so much washing

thecanadianloon · 05/04/2024 11:01

Our cottage has sprung yet another leak, so there is no getting away from the water inside or out! But we can't get on the roof to fix it until we get better weather. We need to do an absolute ton of maintenance as the endless high winds have knocked slates, guttering and chimney pots. Indoors we now have a need game called 'mind the pot' as we have to dodge so many saucepans and bowls out to catch the drips.
Never known anything like it and have been living here for 15 years.

user1471556818 · 05/04/2024 11:23

Apparently where I live east Scotland we are at 198% of the average rainfall for this time of the year.
Yep I'm fed up , the dogs fed up the garden is waterlogged and local roads are flooding .
However I suspect in later yrs with global warming we are going to be grateful for the rainfall.
I try and do all the things to reduce my climate footprint but the reality is scary .
