Milk and cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer
this is the way it was done in my childhood and my children’s childhood.
A friend said she always left the milk and carrots for the reindeer and Santa got a cookie.
i know there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it but please help settle the argument that the milk is for Santa!

Father Christmas 🎅🏻 has a bottle of beer and a mince pie. Rudolph has a carrot.

festivetinseling · 29/12/2023 20:35

Milk and cookies is the tradition in the States, isn't it?

We have, over the years, left a variety of beverages out for Father Christmas, including milk, Bailey's, sherry, red wine, whiskey, brandy, and one year, a can of Guinness. Always a mince pie, and also a carrot for the reindeer too.

LaughingCat · 29/12/2023 20:35

Carrot for the reindeer, whisky and a mince pie for Santa. Or a cookie, if you’re American, I guess!

Santa doesn’t drink milk, Santa is a grown-ass grandad who has to get around the whole world at high altitudes in an open sleigh. Santa needs a motherfucking whisky coat to stay warm. And maybe two mince pies. Just to be on the safe side:

I will be ensuring that our kids understand that Santa prefers a premium Speyside, with a touch of water on the side. None of that cheap, blended crap tyvm 😂

Brandy/sherry and a mince pie for Father Christmas, carrot for the reindeer.

milk and cookies is American.

^ This.

Brandy and a mince pie here for Santa, carrot for the reindeer.

DD wanted to put milk out this year for some reason, but I was concerned it might not be very pleasant by the time he got here. Also the cat would probably drink it, and that would have put us firmly on the naughty list. Brandy seemed safer all round!

I know I'd want a brandy or two if I was buggering about on a sleigh in December.

Aria20 · 29/12/2023 20:51

Milk and home made brownie for Santa, carrots for the reindeer. Dd insisted leaving an extra brownie for Mrs Claus this year too! Once dd in bed the dog gets the milk and carrot and I had the brownie(s)!

Brandy and mince pie for Father Christmas and a carrot for rudolf.

Fueledbycoffeealways · 29/12/2023 20:56

Port and mince pie for santa, carrot for reindeer. Always.

Mochudubh · 29/12/2023 20:58

Santa got whisky, Rudolph got the carrot (as he's effectively driving).

I think milk and cookies must be American.

Mince pie and whisky for santa, carrot for the reindeer.

Milk doesn't get a look-in here.

Same. Sometimes sherry instead of whiskey but milk has never featured.

mynameiscalypso · 29/12/2023 21:00

We left sherry. Even though my parents hated sherry and we only had a bottle in the house for the express purpose of giving a glass to Father Christmas. That was commitment.

Daffyyellow · 29/12/2023 21:12

The drink and treat are for Father Christmas, the carrot for the reindeer. Some years we left Diet Coke, sometimes cider, sometimes a mince pie other s a slice of cake. My girls were highly amused when they realised the choice of drinks and treats!!

queenmeadhbh · 29/12/2023 21:18

NI: protestants leave milk, catholics leave whiskey

this should have been on the Derry girls blackboard!

Floralovesflowers · 29/12/2023 21:22

When I was a child it was carrots for the reindeer, mince pie & port for Father Christmas

When FC visited my house, the port was subbed by dry white wine 🤣

OldTinHat · 29/12/2023 21:27

Sherry and mince pie for Father Christmas and a carrot for the reindeer. Anything else is just daft! 😆

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/12/2023 21:31

Our Santa gets a can of carling although this year it was a bottle of moretti 😂

MolkosTeenageAngst · 29/12/2023 21:32

Santa drinks booze, usually whisky in my house but beer or brandy sometimes. I don’t think he’s fussy as long as the drink is alcoholic though. Don’t think he’d appreciate the milk on top of a stomach full of alcohol so makes sense he gives it to the reindeer.

rainbowsparkle28 · 29/12/2023 21:42

Yes milk and mince pie definitely for Santa / Father Christmas. Carrot for reindeer.

HiCandles · 29/12/2023 21:45

Have never heard of milk for Santa.
Definitely an alcoholic drink usually whiskey sherry or Bailey's and a mince pie. Then for the reindeer a carrot and milk, which is actually the lactose free special cat milk and is very much enjoyed by the cat! Completely normal in my house to expect that a reindeer would enjoy the same treat drink as the cat.

Father Christmas got Brandy and a mince pie when I was growing up. Not sure if we left a carrot for the reindeer.

I don't generally have alcohol on the house (plus not sure FC should be drink-flying) so we leave milk for FC plus a mince pie and a carrot for the reindeer.

Weefreetiffany · 29/12/2023 20:20

If he’s not real, why is the mice pie eaten and brandy drunk in the morning when we all get up?

Exactly!

OrganicCamomileTea · 29/12/2023 22:19

Father Christmas always got a mince pie and a glass of sherry in our house!

DuckonaBike · 29/12/2023 22:20

The drink for Santa should be alcoholic. He’s a grown man, why would he be drinking milk? That’s really weird.

I mean, he is driving…
