What was a hit and what was a miss?

Ds (8) favourite present was a £10 lava lamp. Loves it to bits. Doesn’t have anything he doesn’t like.

DD(10) loves everything she got, though I personally reckon the cookeez makery was a bit of a let down. The magic mixie was better

Only one slight miss.

DD2 told DD1 she would like the "big clear claw" she had seen in Claires Accessories. DD1 asked me to get it for her. (They chose a present each for each other)
I bought the "big clear claw".
Only in the branch they went to, they had small and regular sized ones... and in the branch I went to, they had regular and large. So I've bought one that is too big.
Fortunately they are seeing the funny side. Even if the claw is as big as her head!

Hits... they are very happy. Probably the best reaction was for the luminous pink Rugby socks.

cuthbertthecat · 25/12/2023 09:28

Only done stockings so far but dd1 (14 for reference) got a murder game where you scan in a qr code and have to solve clues to solve the murder.

It is a single use game but dds and I have been merrily clue solving since 8 and we are only a bit of the way through.

Santas elves reliably inform me it was about 5 quid in Tesco

Stompythedinosaur · 25/12/2023 09:31

No misses so far, but a 3d printed fidget dragon from etsy has been a surprise hit with both dds (age 10 and 12).

elfintinsel · 25/12/2023 09:37

Santa got slippers that are on the small side. They say they are a 4 but clearly not. She likes them but they are too small.
We have only done the Santa stockings and Santa list things so not much out yet.
Big surprise hit are these little magnet balls that you can mould into different shapes. They were only about £5.
And thank god for the cult beauty website. Santa got a few little treats on Black Friday and boxed them all up. Dd1 is delighted!

wonkylegs · 25/12/2023 09:40

We only open Stocking presents in the morning so fairly limited until relatives come later however the Fart Ninja is a massive hit with both 7yo and daddy
7yo ..." Father Christmas has a great sense of humour hahahhahahha (fart noise) hahahahaha"

TotallyKerplunked · 25/12/2023 10:07

The tacky bits from "santa" are all mine seem to care about so they are running through the house wearing umbrella hats hitting each other with inflatable light sabers 😂

BingoMarieHeeler · 25/12/2023 10:09

Only done stockings so far but so far 8yo DS bloody loves his origami set and they both (8 and 6) REALLY love their disposable cameras - 6yo already used his all up of course.
6yo also adores his elf slippers and his pastry (jus rol pain au chocolat can) both of which he asked for on his Xmas list so a mega hit.
DD age 1 DGAF about anything 😄

Theblackdogagain · 25/12/2023 10:11

2 sidemen hoodies, bought from market place for £15, one for each twin (14) was the surprise win. Also every flavour of prime.

Sometimes it pays to listen to what trash they watch in YouTube :-)

HappyCamperTent · 25/12/2023 10:11

A hit with Dd10, but for me in hindsight I think it’s shit is the Fujifilm instax mini camera . I wish I’d gotten her the mini printer instead!

Can’t see it being used much at all!

HappyCamperTent · 25/12/2023 10:14

A hit was also the Stanley thermos. I was going to get a knock off but really glad I got the stanley one

Glenthebattleostrich · 25/12/2023 10:20

@cuthbertthecat what is the game? It sounds like something DD would love for her birthday.

DD and DH loved everything. Surprised DH with a new tablet as his is ancient, DD got a lovely watch she has wanted for ages. DH bought me things from my other people ideas gift list so i have some lovely walking socks i was thinking of getting a friend and a straightener brush i was thinking of for DDs birthday!! Oh and some DKNY PJs. I hate DKNY, they are covered in DKNY logo (very teenagery) and an awful drab grey as opposed to the pretty floral ones in a soft drapy fabric i loved. (Sorry, I know i sound ungrateful, he tried and I appreciate that).

Eukanuba · 25/12/2023 10:21

Dd (20) loved her fancy soap bars from Tkmax - she has a bar soap obsession.

Darkenergy · 25/12/2023 10:27

My dd (4) was so excited by her chocolate orange 😂 and Elsa dress and lukewarm on her main present, a play farm. But she's 4 so I'm sure it'll come in time.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 25/12/2023 10:41

They were both happy with everything - youngest loved her White Fox hoodie even thought it wasn't the colour she had requested.

Oldest forgot which urban top she had asked for so that ended up being a surprise even tho it was one of only 4 things she asked for.

HappyCamperTent · 25/12/2023 10:14

A hit was also the Stanley thermos. I was going to get a knock off but really glad I got the stanley one

My DD bought herself one of those on holiday and she loves it.

CatalogueOnVinylFlooring · 25/12/2023 10:46

Twister was a hit. We've played it twice already and I'm now committed to more regular yoga come the new year!

PandaChopChop · 25/12/2023 11:12

I started a thread a while ago asking for help with my DS (8, adhd & sensory stuff going on) and bought most of what other lovely mumsnetters suggested and every single thing has been a solid success! He loves his grinch pj's though.
DDs favourite thing so far has been some cheap So body spritz things. Cost me £3 and she was delighted 🤣 Santa brought Kids Against Maturity which she's been playing with her dad all morning.

Tisfortired · 25/12/2023 11:14

No misses yet but biggest hit is a knee hockey indoor set I got as a joint gift for DP and DS1 (10) they have been playing it all morning.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/12/2023 11:17

Hits with both teens - Air Force Ones, long promised when their feet stopped growing. Their feet havn't grown for 18 months, so fingers crossed.

Justcashnosweets · 25/12/2023 11:20

No misses yet.But of all her presents, DD10 is most enamoured with a miniature water dispenser!

ErnestCelendine · 25/12/2023 11:22

Oodies and Kids against Maturity are big hits.

DS got an amazon version of a switch controller that doesn't work and will be returned but that's the only miss.

tinselvestsparklepants · 25/12/2023 11:32

I got a tin of alphabetti spaghetti in my stocking and I'm really happy with it! I love playing with words. I also got notebooks and lovely socks and a lunch bag I wanted. Dh liked all his books and chopping board. Dog loved her ball. No DC here just three very contented creatures! Happy Christmas.

Blessedbethefruitz · 25/12/2023 11:39

Not had any misses yet, but the day is young 😅 I guess the stabilisers for ds new bike were a miss - replacements ordered (yes i know most people prefer to skip them, but ds is currently waiting for 2 non related surgeries due to his clumsiness...).

Little live pets lambs have blown both kids away (almost 2 and almost 5). Baby buggy has blown toddler dd mind! They're both loving the wooden train set and rc trains too 😁 Lots still to open for both, but smaller items mainly.

I'm really pleased to have gotten it right, with the only batteries being for screen free things this year.

Stompythedinosaur · 25/12/2023 09:31

No misses so far, but a 3d printed fidget dragon from etsy has been a surprise hit with both dds (age 10 and 12).

Very intrigued by this as I'm always looking for fidget toys. Can you share a link please? 🙂

KitchenMess · 25/12/2023 11:50

The Bluey videogame is a massive hit with my 5 year old, he's been playing at every opportunity. Georello gears were also a hit (with me too, I had fun building something with them). A book set (so you think you have it bad? kids life in various ancient countries) I got him were opened and then ignored but he doesn't read well enough yet to read them by himself so perhaps when I read them with him he might be more interested

Uno was a big hit with my 12 year old, she's made me play it with her about a hundred times already. She was less excited about a Stranger Things hoody than I expected though. Box of Belgian chocolates were a definite miss because there were too many dark chocolates in it, which she insists I eat.
