What was a hit and what was a miss?

Ds (8) favourite present was a £10 lava lamp. Loves it to bits. Doesn’t have anything he doesn’t like.

DD(10) loves everything she got, though I personally reckon the cookeez makery was a bit of a let down. The magic mixie was better

Hit and miss simultaneously - sodding expensive crackers which have ‘talking points’ written on cards rather than toys inside! Fortunately the DC think they’re really interesting 😅

GeneCity · 25/12/2023 11:53

Lots of hits here, and DS very sweet and appreciative.

Lego a hit as always, also a sound box, and chocolate turtles.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/12/2023 11:55

DS is locked in his room with his 3D pen having done his My Singing Monsters Lego, so win each for Santa and Mom. Ds is 8.

4 year old twins are happily emptying every packet of players I bought in a cheap box from Poundland

kikisparks · 25/12/2023 12:09

Mostly hits- chocolate, train set etc except main present, the tonie box, she has no interest yet but she’s only 2 so hopefully will like it eventually.

Mrgwl29 · 25/12/2023 12:10

Hotwheels track for my eldest and a little Sylvanian families set for my youngest. Everything has been well received but these were the stand outs. Love it when they love it ❤️

MargaretThursday · 25/12/2023 12:13

Hit: None of the dc waking until gone 11am.
Miss: dh waking at 10.20am. He was playing the piano in church at the 10.30 service 🤣

Dc gently getting up now so we can do the stockings, so far all in a good mood.

MintyfreshSW · 25/12/2023 12:13

DD is 3.5 with SEN so didn’t ask for anything but I got her lots of sylvanian fsmily bits from Vinted and she’s loving them.
misses have come from family - noisy toys are a big no for her

Bbq1 · 25/12/2023 12:18

Fantastic here. Ds is always very appreciative for all of his stocking and sack gifts. Particularly loved his on stage noise cancelling ear defenders, Slash ticket and unusual cheese flavours gift set and protein bar box! Ds loved all of his gifts too and i was very lucky to receive so many beautiful gifts from dh and ds.

My daughter has been wanting the stranger things Creel/Vecna funko house for ages.

Me? I'm meeting the legend that is Tim Curry next summer. I cried ♥️😭

BlueThursday · 25/12/2023 12:23

Is it an English thing just to do stockings then leave the rest for later? I’d never heard of doing this till I joined MN

TheChosenTwo · 25/12/2023 12:26

All presents open here, everything has been gratefully received and much appreciated - it’s only down the line you can really
evaluate what’s a hit and what’s a miss.
We do stocking presents, then breakfast, then tree presents - then dh spends the next few hours cooking while the rest of us have a little sort out, just had a shower and am going back down in a minute to play some of the new games with the kids.
We’ve got family coming a bit later on for more presents and Christmas dinner so they will have other presents but we really do need to get on with the day so get presents over and done with early doors.
Not especially early, they didn’t get up until 9!

BertieBotts · 25/12/2023 12:34

We do presents early because we have young DC and if we tried to do presents after dinner they just wouldn't eat dinner. We do stockings first thing in mummy's and daddy's bed, then all rush into living room and basically it's an unwrapping frenzy with them sometimes pausing to play with something, sometimes just going straight to the next thing, playing/setting up/eating breakfast, phoning a relative or two, starting to cook. It's all a bit of a lazy day! We don't live close enough to relatives to see multiple people so it's either all Christmas all together or it's just us.

When I was growing up I remember waiting until after dinner or at least after breakfast, but maybe I was older.

BertieBotts · 25/12/2023 12:37

Hits for teenage DS - drawing stuff, posh smellies, game cards.

Hits for 5yo and 2yo - car parking garage, various vehicle related things, VTech marble run, Playmobil fire station, toy washing machine that turns things around and around (he has been washing lots of smarties).

They did not like the personalised book I made them but never mind :D

romdowa · 25/12/2023 12:41

2 year old ds here , loves his tea set and his farm set. Not sure about his buggy and doll or his digger ride on but he may come round yet to them

cuthbertthecat · 25/12/2023 09:28

Only done stockings so far but dd1 (14 for reference) got a murder game where you scan in a qr code and have to solve clues to solve the murder.

It is a single use game but dds and I have been merrily clue solving since 8 and we are only a bit of the way through.

Santas elves reliably inform me it was about 5 quid in Tesco

Ooh that sounds really cool. What’s it called?

Mine was the same about the yoto at the same age. He's never been "excited" by it, but it's been used far more than some things he was thrilled by in the moment!

TeenLifeMum · 25/12/2023 12:53

Dd got bumble bee slipper socks with antennas. These seem to be dd1’s (15) favourite gift 😂 so that’s £4.50 well spent.

we haven’t done the DDs’ main gift yet (but they think they’ve had everything. Saving one for after lunch… Eras Tour tickets and hotel stay. They have no idea and I’m so excited. They’re currently all very content with their gifts. Younger 2 loved their new onesies.

Georgieporgie29 · 25/12/2023 12:59

Hit here was the white fox hoody. Thanks to the bargain thread on here and people saying it was a wanted gift for teens this year I took a chance. My daughter couldn’t believe it when she opened it, apparently they’re really popular but they’re expensive so she didn’t ask for one.

SilentSoubriquet · 25/12/2023 13:09

We just had a go at one of the switch games I bought. Everybody 1-2 switch. Was really fun and I definitely recommend it as a family playing game

DS (ASD) hit is a Hot Wheels set, I initially struggled with the thought of buying it him (he is 16 next month) but he loves it.

DD1 (17) is fairly easy to please, but she was very happy with a cd she has wanted for ages, a Lego Botanics set and some PJ's from Long Tall Sally (unlike me she has really long legs)

DD2 (11) seemed to like it all, but most excited about the large Ted Baker body spray (rather than it just being a small one) and the matching fragrance body wash. They were a really good deal from Boots, so not even that costly.

devildeepbluesea · 25/12/2023 13:15

No misses really that I can think of. Stand out hit so far is the family-specific Guess Who which BIL made for me and DSis! Blown away by the thought and effort that went into it, and it’s be a fab addition to pub Olympics!

sleepismyhobby · 25/12/2023 13:20

My ds got a ps5 and him and his older brother been plying in its since 10am! My eldest son got a whist for his car (requested by him) and was delighted by the madness tickets I got for him Edinburgh castle for next summer .
No misses apart from my dads gift that he gave me has the store security tag still on it!

Mynewnameis · 25/12/2023 13:23

We caught my dd7 opening her stocking at midnight. I was so cross I had to step away and let dh deal with her. So our normal ritual of her and her sister enjoying them together was flat.

Pasadenadreaming · 25/12/2023 13:24

DD(9) is thrilled with a cheap northern lights projector from temu, and an electronics set which has loads of different things to do.

Its a nouveau riche thing
