Ds (8) favourite present was a £10 lava lamp. Loves it to bits. Doesn’t have anything he doesn’t like.

DD(10) loves everything she got, though I personally reckon the cookeez makery was a bit of a let down. The magic mixie was better

We do presents on christmas eve here.

For our eight year old the most popular thing so far is a lego bulbasaur. For our two year old the best thing so far is a new chewy tyre for the dog.

Marmite27 · 25/12/2023 13:28

Littlest went nuclear over a Lorcana starter set of cards.

the Frozen doll styling heads are a massive letdown as all the hair was tangled on arrival.

the biggest hits are the gigantic slinkies from home bargains for £1.50 each,

Its a nouveau riche thing

I’m Scottish, definitely not nouveau riche and we did/do this

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 25/12/2023 13:54

DS’s (14) gifts are all a massive hit but I knew they would be as they’re all so “him”. He just kept saying ‘wow’ when he opened them and has declared it the best Christmas ever 🥰.

DH is also happy with his gifts, as am I especially the perfume/ aftershave that DS every kindly bought us with his own money from his part time job. He’s so lovely!

The only miss, depending on how you look at it, is the quacking duck toy that the dog promptly chewed the quacker out of and then destuffed 🙈. He’d call it a hit though as he had a great time!

Its a nouveau riche thing

What do you guys do at Sandringham House?

VikingLady · 25/12/2023 14:05

Hits are all of the Lego, as expected, plus the Gabby's Dollhouse mini figures for DD, who adores the program.

The only misses have been an inordinate quantity of colouring books for crafty DD, who loathes colouring in, and an odd secret Santa present for DS which we suspect was an accident.

drspouse · 25/12/2023 14:10

DS 11 - Lego Star Wars board game, we have been putting it together.
DD 9 a Woody toy, she's already requested a Jessie for her birthday in May.
DM I took to the theatre and she loved it (Brief Encounter in Manchester, run, don't walk, it's amazing).

dancinfeet · 25/12/2023 14:18

DD 19 loved a night light in the shape of a cute smiley toaster that cost a fiver and a £1 light up bottle, less bothered with her (expensive) tap shoes that she needs for her theatre dance course as her old ones have fallen apart.

hby9628 · 25/12/2023 14:21

For my DH, a shirt from river island that has a zip rather than buttons. He's declared it the way forward
The kids both love their Fahlo bracelets
Tween DD is thrilled with her coverless duvet as she always manages to kick her duvet cover off her duvet and it drives us both mad
9yo DD hits are the personalised football & a chicken nugget blanket from shien oh & lego.

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 25/12/2023 14:34

DD (24) has a surprise hit in the form of a beans recipe book DH bought for us but which she's going to take back with her. She's already added ingredients for a recipe to her next supermarket order, and we've got another copy arriving in a couple of days.

Also a hit was the rum truffles dd gave us which zoe scores at 60 and tells us we should 'enjoy regularly'.Grin

Stressfordays · 25/12/2023 14:43

Furby for my DD (5) has been a huge but irritating hit! She's also absolutely loves her Harry Potter mandrake ear muffs my mum got her from Harry Potter world.

My boys (11 + 8) got an Xbox series x however it's taking a while to set up and download all the stuff so although I'm sure it will be a huge hit, ATM they're a bit frustrated with it. They absolutely love their football goals though, they've been outside for ages playing.

shellyleppard · 25/12/2023 14:46

My son (18) got a train book..... he's enjoying that more than any other of the Christmas presents 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️😂 i got a ELO cd which I'm currently blasting out 😂

SisyphusDad · 25/12/2023 14:47

For DS16, a fax machine, in spite of the fact that he doesn't know anyone else with a fax machine, and we don't even have a phone line!

At least 20 minutes and a couple of YouTube videos later, DS20 declared that his coffee made from single-origin beans ground in his mini coffee bean grinder is the best he's ever had. Plus quite a lot about the physics and chemistry of making the perfect coffee.

NameChangerGameChanger2 · 25/12/2023 14:49

DS 30 loves his Munro Bagging book

DD 26 loves her Pandora charm - by buying does she for several, not just one, and she is thrilled with that choice.

DH wanted jumpers, got jumpers, and most loved that I popped a copy of the Auto Express magazine in his stocking, he is reading every word, and drinking an indie beer I got him.

Me, I loved the books I got, they are epic.

My two also love their Fahlo bracelets, much to my surprise. I had given up hope of them even arriving - slews of emails from Fahlo begging forgiveness as they were just so busy etc etc. Anyway, a polar bear and shark suddenly appeared on Saturday, and today has been non-stop excitable updates: Muuummmmm! Quick! SHE'S ON THE MOVE!! 😀 Would def get more for birthdays/next year.

Is it an English thing just to do stockings then leave the rest for later? I’d never heard of doing this till I joined MN

As a child we always did this. Stockings while in bed, then wash and dress, breakfast with a table present. Then church, family popped in for a Christmas drink then Christmas dinner and then presents after the Queen's Speech. Boxing Day over to an uncle's house for extended family presents. It spread the presents out so no one felt overwhelmed (now I know why, as 3 of my adult cousins have recently been diagnosed as having ADHD as has a sibling of mine).

My ex preferred a present frenzy in the morning. I found that odd! 😁

cuthbertthecat · 25/12/2023 15:31

Game was called Hush Money made by Professor Puzzle games.

We've always done stockings first thing then big under the tree presents after breakfast. My mum did it that way and she's almost 80 so nothing nouveau there!

Judellie · 25/12/2023 15:36

My best is a backscratcher and a scrabble dictionary from dd - we play scrabble nearly every evening. DH's favourite is a laptop bag he wanted. DS has a book about the Tyne and Wear metro. DD has a hat int he shape of a Christmas pudding - she used to have one and it got lost, she was thrilled ot find a new one!

Judellie · 25/12/2023 15:43

There were a few misses - bath bombs and scented candles have been earmarked for the next tombola.

renomeno · 25/12/2023 15:50

The Pulsio massage gun has been a bigger hit than expected!

Ibex22 · 25/12/2023 16:07

No misses, they were thrilled with everything. But the Nintendo Switch was the biggest hit!

MyCatIsPlotting · 25/12/2023 16:12

Massive hit: foam swords from Flying Tiger. £3 each. DS8 and DS3 have had a wonderful time play fighting and trying to chop each other’s heads off 😂

soupmaker · 25/12/2023 16:27

The DDs (15, 10) were thrilled with bead sets and have been busy making bracelets for going to see Taylor Swift next year most of the day. DD15 very pleased with a hardback copy of Emma by Jane Austen (a last minute purchase) and DD2 not taken off her Grinch Santa hat all day. They've liked everything they've been given and have been spoilt. One of our neighbours gifted us a marble rolling pin (WTAF)!

Topofthemountain · 25/12/2023 16:42

I might be taking back what I said about the hot wheels set (hit for DS -15). I have discovered it doesn't actually collapse, it slightly folds, but is still massive. 😫
