Do you have potato croquettes on Xmas Dinner?

Growing up in the 70s and 80s (in NE England) my family always had potato croquettes (as well as roasties) on our Xmas dinner, and so did my DH's family (in Yorkshire). We didn't have them at any other time of year, so I'm guessing it must have been inspired by a succesful pre-Xmas advertising campaign when they were a relatively new product. We still have them every year now, so we're passing on the tradition to our kids. Anyone else?

No I have never heard of this. Some uni friends from Northern places liked roasties and mash with any roast. I thought that was odd!
Just roasties here.
Enjoy your croquettes OP, it's nice to have family traditions.

Allmarbleslost · 24/12/2023 13:55

No that's a new one on me. I do love a croquette though!

We live in SW London now, so I guess we're spreading the tradition geographically. 😁

Yep we have them - Scotland

CheersToAMerryChristmas · 24/12/2023 14:02

No Roasties only here.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/12/2023 14:04

I'm from NE England and we never had croquettes on Christmas dinner. Loved them, though. Croquettes and potato fritters were my favourite things.

Tbh, I'm still a bit obsessed with potato. Tomorrow I am having roasties, mash and potato Dauphinoise.

On the one hand just no but on the other how delicious!
Do you also have cauliflower cheese? Or just the one creamy dish?

Why not? It sounds delicious.

LightSpeeds · 24/12/2023 14:09

No but I'm envious. I love every variety of potato!

SqueezyMcJingles · 24/12/2023 14:10

No! They're horrible!

Myhusbandearns150k · 24/12/2023 14:10

I too would like to know if you have cauliflower cheese and dauphinois pots. I’m salivating at the choice of potatoes.

I had a friend once who told me a tale of family that served three different types of mash on special occasions and I think of that often 😂

Mrsjayy · 24/12/2023 14:11

Yep. Only the big supermarkets seem to have them, usually tucked in a corner near the frozen chips.

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 24/12/2023 14:17

No croquettes, although I do like them, but we generally have roast and mash and I have been known to substitute dauphinois for the mash, in the past.
No cauli cheese though. No Yorkshire pudding if it’s turkey we are eating.

TomatoSandwiches · 24/12/2023 14:17

No I would never.
