Hello all ..catching up with you all.

I am behind on all the news as I have been a bit under par this week ..
It in no way compares to having little one poorly and in hospital though ...so I am glad to hear baby Havoc is improving 💓!

I twisted my back last week and it turned out to be a lot more than just an " ouch " sort of thing !!

On tablets that are making me feel a bit sick ...(I am not good with tablets anyway !) but I have to make myself eat something in order to take the tablets !

Very much out of sorts completely!
as the tablets make me sleepy as well !!

Got to try and muster some energy to have a bath and wash hair as I have to take my disabled DB to an event tomorrow that he has been looking forward to for ages .

I have arranged some special transport for us so I don't have to lift his wheelchair in and out of the car.

I was in agony this morning just trying to put my slippers on 😅😅!

Walking will be fine...it is just the twisting, bending and lifting that I need to be careful about.

bizzey · 01/02/2024 18:02

sprouts ..my dedication back fired on the 2nd day !

I hadn't spoken to him after the first day as I was too dosed up on meds 😅..
But the next morning I woke and realised I couldn't hear him in the shower or making noise or anything...

Went into him ...Nd called his name and told him it was 10 to 7....

He opened his eyes and stared blankly at me..(😅😅)

I just said.... Jury Service....

Blank stare ....then , he said.....
Ohh I am not in untill 11 !!

Oops...
Sorry my love!
Go back to sleep 😅😅!

He knows the route and timings now so can leave as late as possible...
We have had train strikes and stuff here so they delayed all the start times which is good.

MissConductUS · 01/02/2024 19:14

I had to google Bagpuss. The show only ran for a short time, so it must have been quite charming.

Havoc, I'm glad the baby is doing so much better. 95-96 O2 sat is fine.

I'm still up to my ears in paperwork.

I've finished watching The Madame Blanc Mysteries and have just watched the pilot episode of Agatha Raisin. Each showed the British main character taking eggs out of their fridge at one point. My understanding from MN was that only daft Americans kept eggs in the fridge and the proper British way was to store them at room temperature. So I'm confused.

Miss, chickens in europe are vaccinated against salmonella so refrigeration of eggs is not necessary. We don't do that here in N.America, (actually, don't know about Mx), hence the need to keep eggs in the fridge. When I was in europe I was shocked that eggs sat on the grocery store shelves, but my friends didn't know the reason. It must be the same as us in the UK if eggs are refrigerated.

Bizzey, I'm so sorry to hear about your back injury! I have too much experience with that and I sympathize. Please look into a physiotherapy assessment and treatment if your doctor agrees. I hope you recover soon.

All of you are the first to know: just saw doctor and baby "meets criteria for discharge."
Has been off oxygen support for 24hrs and saturation is now at 98%; chest is clear; no fever; bacterial culture is negative; and baby is feeding and alert. 🥳🥳🥳

I'm going to shower and pack up, bathe baby now that tubes and monitors have been removed and surprise Havoc with our arrival home. ☺️☺️☺️

🩷🩷🩷Thank you again, everyone here, for all of the lovely words of support. 🩷🩷🩷

Penguinsa · 01/02/2024 21:35

So glad to hear all is well Havoc and good to hear you are back home soon.

Yes I think Bagpuss and a lot of other programs were repeated a lot. It was on a lot as a child.

Enjoy the Cotswolds Tilllly

Hope you are feeling better soon Bizzey

Feeling a bit meh today so swimming will be tomorrow - had 2 hot cross buns today.

bizzey · 01/02/2024 22:19

Bath , hair wash , face mask and a glass of wine 😅!

Yes ...I took a glass of wine in the bath with me ...it was bliss !

Feel a bit more human now .

1 hour and 45 mins to go for next tablet though 🤣!

So I am mid medication dose.

Nice body cream on the bits of my body I can manage ....and Volterol rubbed into my back !

I smell lovely 🤣🤣 !

sproutsandparsnips · 01/02/2024 23:02

Yay Havoc! Very good news!
Eggs here are at room temperature in the shop but I always put mine in the fridge. Not sure why.....
Sorry about the back Bizzey - wine in the bath sounds like the right move though!
Looking forward to the start of the 6 Nations tomorrow.

bizzey · 01/02/2024 23:11

Wowsa !!
6 Nations already !

I don't watch properly..but follow sort of thing ..

That definitely means January is out of the way 😅🤣!

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 02/02/2024 00:53

MissC and Havoc we don't have salmonella here I don't think, I'm not sure but I've never heard of anyone getting it. I don't know if chickens are vaccinated but eggs are on shelves in the supermarket and we can eat raw eggs if we want (not me 🤢). We refrigerate them because they'll last longer before going stale/off. Or because we have a tiny kitchen with barely any cupboard space.

That is good news about baby Havoc.

Bizzey I hope the back issue clears up soon. Medication side effects are never fun.

I've been for a long walk beside the river this afternoon. Could see the ripples made by larger fish near the surface but couldn't see the fish. It's weird how water is a mirror. If you dangle your feet in the river in summer and keep still, the smallest fish ignore you and you can see them contrasted against your skin, there's tons of them and you'd not have a clue from looking at the surface.

bizzey · 02/02/2024 01:09

Interesting that the chat has got to eggs and Salmonella....
I was watching a programme (that I had recorded ...not sure when on )
about " Shocking moments of 1988 "and Edwina Currie and the Eggs situation was in it.

Apparently...she was right !

And there had been a cover up by the government about it .

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 02/02/2024 01:33

Edwina Currie And The Eggs sounds like the name of a particularly awful band 😂

The British Government - Covering Things Up Since The Dawn Of Time (TM). Their next election slogan?

I bet they didn't get salmonella.

So I'm right we don't have it any more, but we used to? Maybe half the population puts their eggs in the fridge because their mum did, but without knowing why 🤔

Tilllly · 02/02/2024 04:14

@HildaTablet
But actually, Bagpuss was 40% opening credits....

Tilllly · 02/02/2024 04:16

Ouch @bizzey
See a physio if it's still hurting in a few days, honestly they're miracle workers
I hobbled in and walked out when I hurt mine
But do keep moving, apparently that's much better than resting it

Tilllly · 02/02/2024 04:19

I do the same @sproutsandparsnips
Bonkers but I wouldn't think not to have eggs in the fridge - there's a little space for them!

@Mumtobabyhavoc am SO happy you're home, you've had an awful time of it

Tilllly · 02/02/2024 04:26

Am cheerfully grumpy

Come to posh hotel in Cotswolds just for couple of nights
Loo broke so had to move to "a better room" which it's not really, marginally bigger but lost the lovely view I paid for. Tho got a bottle of wine

DH slumbering peacefully and a bit noisily, whilst I'm awake and itching all over. Started with my feet a couple of days ago but spread so have had anti histamine and am drinking camomile tea for some bizarre reason. I'm hoping it's some random reaction but worried it's a chemo side effect - cos it can be permanent if it is. Tho it started a day or two before the last chemo round

Started a thread on AIBU, half tongue in cheek cos Every Bloody Time we go away, DH has a smelly 💩 right before I have a bath... and the vipers came out bit OTT. But that's made me realise the extractor fan in the new bathroom isn't working so am now thinking a shower will set off the smoke alarm in the morning and we might have to move again....

Is it too early for wine?!!!

Tilllly · 02/02/2024 05:47

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2024 05:29

"In addition, some eggs will have a quality mark and/or a best before date stamped on them. The Lion Quality mark assures the purchaser that the eggs stamped with this mark come from British hens that have been vaccinated against salmonella and have been produced to high standards of hygiene and animal welfare. The mark is stamped on the eggs and egg boxes. A best before date is also stamped on the eggs"

My chemo nurse said I can only have well cooked eggs with lion mark on

HelenaJustina · 02/02/2024 06:40

@Tilllly that is rubbish, no good for a posh hotel. The Cotswolds is sort of my neck of the woods so I apologise on the region’s behalf.

So glad you are home again @Mumtobabyhavoc fingers firmly crossed that is the final hospital visit for some considerable time.

For reference, eggs live on the side chez moi, and I haven’t poisoned anyone yet even when they eat uncooked cake mixture

Ridiculous day in work yesterday for a number of reasons, hoping for better/calmer today but not holding out much hope…

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2024 06:54

Helena, Tilly
I'm a bit old school with this... when I'm training (ahem, used to train) I would put a raw egg in my protein shakes. Very 1970's...
But, the eggs are fresh, locally produced and kept in the fridge here. I can't fathom steak tartare, though. 🤮
If compromised immune system, pregnant, very young best to avoid...Tilly, sensible advice from your nurse re stamped eggs, etc

Has anyone seen the thread about eating left- over Christmas turkey and ham and questionable storage/food handling by in-laws? 😲🤣

Tilllly · 02/02/2024 07:57

I did @Mumtobabyhavoc
It was grim

HildaTablet · 02/02/2024 09:06

That is really enraging @Tilllly - I hope the shower didn’t set off the smoke alarm, unless you were hoping it did, in which case I hope you’ve been moved to a much nicer room. And that your itching has stopped. There are few things more horrendous than inexplicable itching when you can’t pinpoint a cause, I find.

Re eggs, I keep mine on the kitchen counter but I agree that many TV shows seem to think people keep them in the fridge - you’re not meant to, for flavour reasons, and in the UK it’s not necessary as explained above, but there was this in the news at Christmas just gone (if it looks paywalled but you want to actually read the article just click on 'maybe later' where they ask you to register)

NB when I first clicked on this the sub-heading solemnly warned that the shock egg news was 'breaking' 😂

New warning over how to cook eggs after huge increase in salmonella

There have been over 200 cases of salmonellosis linked to poultry products such as eggs and meat this year

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/salmonella-eggs-warning-uk-poland-b2459978.html#

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2024 10:19

Tilly, "grim" is a good description. In summer and over Christmas there are always people talking about having caught a tummy bug/d&v virus... it's often food poisoning from improper food handling, ie temperature control. Picnics and bbq's under summer sun and Christmas/holiday buffet style serving of food...
How are you feeling? Did you manage any sleep? Still itchy? I hope you are feeling well and rested enough to enjoy your day. ☺️

Hilda, I haven't heard about room temp eggs for better flavour, but I have in recipes to make stirring easier.

I am literally nodding off while baby nurses...
I ate two pieces of raspberry choc cake from True Confections earlier, too. 😋😋😋

whyyy321 · 02/02/2024 11:37

Congrats on being discharged, havoc! Sorry about the itching and room frustrations tillly (and about DH's habit!). Poor you, bizzey - back pain is just awful.

I wonder why Bagpuss has been binned off, but the Clangers still show up on CBBC? DS largely unimpressed by them, but grandad enjoys when they are on and he's around.

If they can vaccinate chickens against salmonella, why can't humans be vaccinated? That's probably a really stupid question....

I keep my eggs in the fridge and have never considered how silly that is, given I pick them up from the shelf in the supermarket and then put them in the fridge? DS is an egg fiend though, so they never last long.

Are you a murder mystery fan, Miss? I love a good murder mystery- all started with my love for Jonathan Creek as a teenager. There was an Agatha Christie adaptation on the BBC at Christmas which was quite good- Murder is Easy.

MissConductUS · 02/02/2024 16:06

Tillly, that's nice that you can get away for a few days. The Cotswolds is where Agatha Raisin is set. It looks lovely, and the village setting reminds me a bit of the small towns in New England. I hope your itching has resolved. I get that from time to time on my back, and my dermatologist has concluded that it's neuropathic, so there is not much to be done about it.

Our eggs all come with a best use-by date on the carton, but no lions, unfortunately. I've recently started eating eggs a few days a week for breakfast to increase my protein levels. It's just more work in the morning than slicing up some fruit and having it with some Greek-style yogurt.

why, I do love a good murder mystery or police procedural drama. I think the Brits do the murder mysteries better than we do, and that American police procedurals are a bit better than the British ones. I'm also a military history fan, so I love the WWII documentaries.

DD's wedding reception venue invited them to a menu tasting in March, but they'll both be away on spring break, visiting her fiancee's family. There's no charge for them, and we can go as well at a cost of $75 per person. I can't wait, but we're now waiting for possible alternate dates.
