The funniest thing you’ve read on Mumsnet

A relative latecomer to Mumsnet, I’ve read posts that have been heart-breaking, sad, fascinating, terrifying.

There have been lots that have been funny and a few that have made me howl with laughter. A few that spring to mind:

’You’re the chicken carcus’

Snapped and farted

And the one where people posted about the reality of clothes bought on line eg leather jacket made one poster look like Suzi Quattro’s nan. And the Monsoon top with a collar that looked like a triceratop.

And so many more 😁

The canestan one was me. He's still going strong and has been joined by a tarantula.
Glad it made you chuckle

RoxieLoxy · 19/12/2023 14:01

The snapped and farted thread was the funniest I've seen. Still makes me laugh when I think of it.

vidflex · 19/12/2023 14:06

Oh thanks so much for this absolute little nugget lol I've sat chuckling for the last half hour lol

ShittingPeugeot · 19/12/2023 14:08

I think it got pulled but the surprised with a horse thread was hilarious

Stringagal · 19/12/2023 14:09

A recent one where the poster’s husband had said her new hair cut reminded him of Jimmy Savile. Yes yes, awful of him.

But then some genius replied “a trim’ll fix it for you” and I swear I didn’t stop chuckling about that for days 😂

Breaca · 19/12/2023 14:41

The Sistine Chapel one.
Had me in fits of laughter and still makes me laugh whenever I remember it.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/12/2023 14:44

Just the entirety of the “people keep having sex in my hedge” thread. Was having a MH crisis when I came across it and it got me slightly relaxed and laughing. I even tried to read it to my much younger boyfriend over the phone once (he was understandably perplexed).

CatChant · 19/12/2023 14:48

The thread asking if wombles were real.

JadziaD · 19/12/2023 14:51

Many many many years ago (I've been on MN for way too long, clearly) there was an "embarrassing moments" thread. I will never not laugh at the poster who was a detective and attended a murder scene, only to TRIP over the body as she came through the door. It was one of the funniest posts I've ever read.

I did also feel for her, obviously! :)

FMLpassthegin · 19/12/2023 14:57

The thread of all the embarrasing moments or daft things said/done and misunderstandings during medical/gp appointments. Some of them made me die laughing. I think one person blurted out that they were diabetic and they weren't and they had no idea why they had said it or how to take it back.

ssd · 19/12/2023 15:01

The one about how we feel nearer or during the menopause and one poster said "tonight i had an emotional conversation with dh about his use if tesco clubcard"

That really made me laugh

GigiAnnna · 19/12/2023 15:02

Skid marks on the headboard.

alloalloallo · 19/12/2023 15:12

The fatballs made me laugh too

I thought about it again a few days ago when my 22 year old daughter took a bite out of what she thought were home made star shaped cookies, but were in fact star shapes I’d just cut out of air drying clay to make gift tags

RenoDakota · 19/12/2023 15:32

The poster who had a bad, dark perm and her dad said (something like) "here comes Colonel Gadaffi".

doubleshotcappuccino · 19/12/2023 15:35

I'm crying with laughter at these .. another vote for fat nan but I love these so much

doubleshotcappuccino · 19/12/2023 15:36

The poster who had a bad, dark perm and her dad said (something like) "here comes Colonel Gadaffi".

This is hilarious!!

NashvilleQueen · 19/12/2023 15:41

There have been many many threads that have made me laugh over the years.

There was one about a boyfriend's family eating bonio dog biscuits that became a sharing of similar bizarre stories but my absolute favourite was the baby name Balonz. It was so immediately silly and even the person who posted it to take the piss out of mumsnetters recognised the comedy in the responses.

ChristmasFluff · 19/12/2023 17:34

T-rexing in Asda

WeeOrcadian · 19/12/2023 17:39

Call me boring but I still do not understand 'snapped and farted'

Where I come from, 'snapped' usually means when you lost your shit at someone and snapped at them

I just can't reconcile that sentence in my head

Butternutsqoosh · 19/12/2023 17:47

Fat balls, small
Korean woman in garden and accidentally cupped the CRO's balls spring to mind - 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Butternutsqoosh · 19/12/2023 17:49

Bloody autocorrect - CEO's balls!

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 19/12/2023 17:49

@WeeOrcadian i think snapped and farted was supposed to be something else but can’t think what!
