Just that really.. (Kind of lighthearted/maybe not!)

OP posts:

I am regularly shocked by threads in relationships, where men treat their partners like they hate them, yet claim to love them.
There's been some great posters lately who have posted on these threads saying 'what was your childhood like, what was your example of relationships growing up?'
And when the OP responds, its clear they grew up witnessing awful behaviour from their male parent, and were spoken to horribly by their male parents.
So while it's distressing, I really hope that anyone reading it that might be in a relationship with a man displaying red flags, or thinking of leaving a man treating them badly but worrying about splitting a family up, reads those threads and gains the strength they need to protect themselves and their children.
(It's worth noting that in the responses I've read so far, the OPs parents stayed together - I beg of anyone reading this, please don't stay together for the kids)

I've tried to plough through this but it's boiled down to American cheese, Mexican house thief, dog napping and drug-dependent baby, same old same old.

The most memorable threads to me are ShineLikeaDiamond who drank a bottle of Fanta from her fridge while naked, then squirted some whipped cream down her throat, before she realised her elderly neighbours were waiting at her glass front door. God that made me laugh.

And one of the first threads I read on here, probably 12yrs ago, about a woman who was dreading Christmas with her inlaws because there were no locks on the toilet doors and they had a bizarre and painful tradition of hurling conkers at each other.

I am shocked every single day at what women will put up with in their relationships. Obviously I am also shocked at the way some men behave.

The actual thread that shocked me was a woman who said she was dying, and it was so fake, but everybody believed it and was saying they loved her, and they would miss her, even though she had no previous threads etc. she made enough posts to keep people interested, and then after she "died" then her husband came on to talk about her. Her husband sounded just like her.

I have read enough heartbreaking threads on here where people have discovered they have cancer or another serious illness to recognise one where someone is just taking the piss. It was really shocking to me how everybody believed her even though she was clearly just lying through her teeth.

No way! There is no way that was fake. Why on earth would they put pictures of themselves on the thread?

I'll be absolutely shocked if that was not real.

Meant to tag @Starrystarryshite, @MRSMTO.

If you're going to post in support of choking @Sexlivesofthepotatomen, at least also post the details of the risk of injury?

If a consenting couple want to practice strangling/choking as part of their sex life then I'm sure they've weighed up the pros and cons.

Angus Og (originally Angus Òg) ran from 1960 to 1989, first in the Glasgow Bulletin and then in the Daily Record and The Sunday Mail. "Òg" is Scottish Gaelic for "young". Best pal Lachie Mor.

My dad used to get the books! Very funny cartoon!

bonzaitree · 19/12/2023 09:42

The penis beaker thread.

People wipe standing up?! Woah… I was today years old when I found out 😮

Physiologically, wouldn’t an anus be more tucked in when stood upright?

Does standing bottom wiping require funky leg positioning?

Finally, isn’t an over toilet bowl position more hygienic for micro (or heaven forbid, macro) fall out from said wiping?

[overthinks the prospect of a post defecation position].

TheBoarRushedDownhill · 19/12/2023 09:44

The juxtaposition of strangulation and American cheese on this thread is very mumsnet.

LegalFarmer · 19/12/2023 09:44

At this time of year I often find myself thinking of the woman who posted several years ago that she cooks and plates up get Christmas dinners on Christmas Eve. Wrapped in cling film each guest then just microwaves one when they fancy eating.

If you’re talking about Pamela, she was real and did die. Her death announcement was on the internet, separate to mumsnet, I saw it.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 19/12/2023 09:46

Some years ago, when there was a Vaccination board, there was a band of anti-vaxxers who used to run thread after thread about the perils of childhood vaccines, especially about how MMR caused autism. Some wonderful, clever posters would give up their time to shoot down this rubbish.

I never understood why Mumsnet let the anti-vaxxers’ nonsense stand. It was such shockingly stupid and dangerous crap.

That said, there are still some covid anti-vaxxers about. But it’s nothing like the anti-vax shit that used to pollute this place.

Bookworm1111 · 19/12/2023 09:46

My favourite was the SAHM who had had a vague conversation in the playground with a school dad about whether she might look after their DC on the first day of the summer holidays. Then she found out he and his wife had been been telling everyone else at school she was doing their childcare EVERY DAY of the six-weeks holiday from 6.30am. They couldn't take time off as they were saving to go to Disney at half term! OP rightly told them where to go, then there was a doorstop confrontation with furious CFers demanding she 'honour' their agreement. I think it ended when OP's DS, who was ill, threw up over CF Mum's shoes.

I’m always amazed that people on here are amazed that people won’t answer an unexpected knock on their door! When I was a woman living alone it seemed a bit strange that I would be expected to just open my door to a stranger?

How would you cope with the postman knocking, or someone coming to read the meters?

Hangfail · 19/12/2023 09:47

A thread where a woman was worried about her friend's relationship - the friend's boyfriend liked to take bites out of her and eat them.

A thread where a woman was really sad because her neighbours were having a party for their child, and had invited everyone in the class - except her child. If I remember rightly, her child had sn, and was crying watching all these children go into the neighbour's house. And also if I remember correctly, the neighbour was a vicar.

shaniahoo · 19/12/2023 09:48

Honestly, the thread where everyone was saying they wear knickers under pyjama bottoms. It shocked the hell out of me because I wasn't aware that was a thing anybody did, unless on period and wearing a pad perhaps.

Thejewellershands · 19/12/2023 09:48

Sunflower8848 · 19/12/2023 02:54

The woman who was asking if it was normal for partner to keep a glass of water on the bedside table to dip his dick in and wash it after sex 🤢 she called it something like the “dick beaker”.

Hahahahaha the dick beaker 😂 I'm crying

Covidwoes · 19/12/2023 09:50

This was clearly a troll, but there was a thread the other day about a woman who tripped over a space hopper at a soft play, crashed into a wall, then farted. Load of bollocks, but it really made me chuckle. 😂😂 Memorable rather than shocking. That, and the Sistine Chapel screamer! Legend!

Bookworm1111 · 19/12/2023 09:52

Also the one about the neighbour whose window overlooked the OP's private courtyard – she came home from holiday to find they'd knocked out the window and put in patio doors so they could use her space. It involved a Spanish grandma too. Sadly I think it turned out to be a troll thread but at the time it was really shocking to think a neighbour could blithely do that!

Was it Pamela?? I thought that was Clare? Could be mistaken though…

I really enjoyed that one despite it being a troll thread!

Are you, @Sexlivesofthepotatomen? If you bothered to even scan that article, you'll
see recent research found that strangulation/choking during sex is much higher risk than previously thought.

Medics that work in this area, such as Professor Catherine White, a forensic physician, are very concerned. You think she's some kind of prude? Forensic medics have truly seen it all.

This is up to date, published last month:

There could also be a Clare, but there was definitely a Pamela in June/July who many thought was fake. Her husband came to the thread after she’d died.

I stand by what I've already said, whatever 2 consenting adults get up to as part of their sex life is their business, their risk.

I don't care what statistics you are posting so no, I didn't bother to even scan that article so please stop tagging me into messages.

specialk9 · 19/12/2023 10:01

I've read some absolutely awful things on here.

But one thing that stands out, and I honestly think of every time I clean my teeth...

A thread along the lines of 'what's that awful smell in my house' and it turned out to be their toothbrush holder 🤢. I'm not sure she'd ever cleaned it. Actually makes me feel sick.

SalviaDivinorum · 19/12/2023 10:03

The appalling standards of behaviour that so many women are prepared to accept from men.
