If you were going to be a grandmother, what would you call yourself?

Just as the title says - if one of your children was having a baby, what would you want to be known as?

The only options I can come up with are:

Gran
Granny
Grandma
Nan
Nana
Nanny

Which would you choose, or would you choose something else?

I’m granma, or more accurately manmaaaaaaa at the moment 😍

Natsku · 15/12/2023 14:52

I'd want to be Mummi (Finnish word for grandma). My mum is a Mummi, as was her mum to me. Paternal grandmother was Scottish and was called Granny.

U2HasTheEdge · 15/12/2023 14:53

I'm a Granny (I was 40 when I become a Granny!).

It was always assumed I would be a nanny, like my mum, but I requested to be a Granny.

schoolallergies · 15/12/2023 14:54

Naina

muckymayhem · 15/12/2023 14:56

I wish I was Italian because Nonna always sounds nice to me - not a fan of grandma or nan.. long way off yet hopefully!

TheChosenTwo · 15/12/2023 14:57

I don’t like any of them! I had a grandma and a nanna growing up and neither of them were very nice.
And gran/granny/nan/nanny also don’t sound nice to my ear.
I suppose when/if the day comes the kid will just call me whatever and I’ll love it because they’ve said it 😂

Lilithlogic · 15/12/2023 14:59

Taid, I'm Welsh

Taid, I'm Welsh

Bloody Nain, Welshwoman losing marbles rapidly.

Onelifeonly · 15/12/2023 15:02

My first thought is by my first name but I thought that too before I had kids and automatically referred to myself as mummy once I did!

Grandma probably as that is what has always been used in our family. There are no grandmas still alive in our extended family but there is one grandad still.

MadamVastra · 15/12/2023 15:02

G Ma! G for short

actually im not one yet so I guess whatever their parents refer to me as?

SaltySeaCat · 15/12/2023 15:03

Granny

mrssunshinexxx · 15/12/2023 15:04

I was going to encourage 'Lovie' for my mum but she died when I was heavily pregnant, it was abit of a joke because I love the Kardashian's and that's what they call the grandma on there and different to the norm names, wish my kids had been able to call her it x

JemOfAWoman · 15/12/2023 15:06

I'm Grandma to 6 under the age of 9! My mum was Nana and I wanted to be a different person to her and Grandma just sounds so lovely. Also people get a shock when they see me on a zip wire or swimming in rivers with the children and they are shouting 'come on Grandma!' It's just perfect ❤️

riotlady · 15/12/2023 15:11

Nana for me, I just think it sounds cute and cuddly! My mum and her mum are both Granny and I love them but neither are especially cuddly lol. (Although my Granny goes by Gigi to my daughter, short for great granny, which is very cute)

RainbowUtensils · 15/12/2023 15:11

I'll be a Nana - I had a Gran and a Grandma, my mum and my MIL are both Grandma, but that feels too formal to me. Nana feels cuddly, and is easy for tiny ones to say (and in their babbling you can pretend they're calling you Nana!)

madamepresident · 15/12/2023 15:13

Nanna

eandz13 · 15/12/2023 15:18

I'll be Grandma - my own mum and my closest grandmother are both Grandma, I naturally associate the word with cosiness and warmth because of these lovely women.

Perimama · 15/12/2023 15:21

Nana

GetWhatYouWant · 15/12/2023 15:22

I am Grandma, my mother is Great grandma. Both of absolutely loathe Nanny/Nana which is frequently used round here. I was only 50 when I became a Grandma and I didn't think the name sounded old, it was the fact that my child was having a child that made me feel old!

Lifechange2023 · 15/12/2023 15:23

I’ll be grandma. I will never ever ever be a nan or nanny. I don’t think of grandma as old, for me granny is old

caramac04 · 15/12/2023 15:24

Granny

BellaVita · 15/12/2023 15:24

I am called Nannie or I will be when she can talk 😆

WhamBamThankU · 15/12/2023 15:33

My eldest came up with names for my mum and stepdad as a toddler which stuck, and my subsequent two children also call them the names! My mums is similar to grandma, but step dads is something personal to his interests/personality so it's lovely

Previousreligion · 15/12/2023 15:39

Maybe Nana. Grandma etc sounds old and severe to me. Nanny makes me think of Mary Poppins.

CloudyAgain · 15/12/2023 15:43

Rocknrollstar · 15/12/2023 13:03

I am called Bubba, as were my mother and grandparents. It’s an old Yiddish term but much preferable in my mind. Families will often add the person’s first name as well to differentiate them. When I had children my friends also called my mother Bubba!

Edited

I will be bubba as well. My father is zaydah but since my children misheard that when young they call him Spider.😍
