If you were going to be a grandmother, what would you call yourself?

Just as the title says - if one of your children was having a baby, what would you want to be known as?

The only options I can come up with are:

Gran
Granny
Grandma
Nan
Nana
Nanny

Which would you choose, or would you choose something else?

that's lovely a rather grand 😀

I totally don't want to be addressed as 'Naaan' in an Estuary accent ('goin rahnd me naaan's').

Lizzieregina · 15/12/2023 14:12

I’ll be whatever the kiddos decide to call me, but if they ask, I’ll be Granny!

I do childcare so one of my recent toddlers called his 2 grannies, Momo and Mimi. I became Momie. He called all granddads Baba, including my DH!

The 10 year old I care for now calls her Granny, Grandmother. Very formal!

😂

I'm called Nanny which I didn't choose and don't particularly like. I'd prefer Gran, Granny or just my name. It's not a huge deal though

weleasewoderick23 · 15/12/2023 14:16

I'm grandma and my grandson ( aged 13) really hates his friends referring to me as nan!

RobertaDeFries · 15/12/2023 14:17

I'm Mémé to our grandchildren.

NorthernLiner · 15/12/2023 14:19

Mine are only little still so I’m a long way off, but I quite like ‘Granny’.
My eldest called my MiL ‘Grandma’ and my FiL ‘Other Grandma’ 😆😂

It’s obviously become family lore now and an in joke, but very funny at the time.

NorthCliffs · 15/12/2023 14:19

Granny, after Granny Weatherwax.

Crumblecakes · 15/12/2023 14:19

We use Nanny in our family for my mum stepmum and MIL (which is often met with which Nanny are you talking about mum?!). Wasn’t planned it just happened that way!
My Grandmother I call Nana, she is Northern so not sure if thats why!

Gatekeeper · 15/12/2023 14:21

Granny definitely

henrysugar12 · 15/12/2023 14:23

Well you can pick whatever you like, but usually the child decides!

ChateauDuMont · 15/12/2023 14:27

Nanny.

familyissues12345 · 15/12/2023 14:32

I was thinking about this earlier - I just don't know!

My mum is Grandma to my children, my grandmother was Grandma to me and Granny to my children. I always felt Grandma was an old name, and my mum became it at 45!

I'm not keen on Nanny - mainly because the chances are I'm going to be a relatively young grandmother and I don't want I have to explain that I'm nanny as in Grandparent, rather than childcare worker!"

Desecratedcoconut · 15/12/2023 14:33

I have no idea. I think Nana would be the best of the bunch but I'm not too fussed.

Lifestooshort71 · 15/12/2023 14:34

I'm Granny to both my grandchildren. Can't bear Nanny (Goat)

lazarusb · 15/12/2023 14:37

I became a Granny at 50 and chose to be called that. I love when my little grandson calls me it.

Desecratedcoconut · 15/12/2023 14:38

I don't like the 'y' ending forms, Granny and Nanny sound diminutive. But then I don't like Mummy/Mammy either and we went straight to Mam.

JamSandle · 15/12/2023 14:38

Whatever they liked!

Rickenbackergoodgrief · 15/12/2023 14:39

I'm nan to the older ones and nanan to the younger.
It's what my kids chose, which is fine by me.

HandyLittleGadget · 15/12/2023 14:41

I'm known as Mammar (that's how they spell it), pronounced Mom-mar

CMOTDibbler · 15/12/2023 14:44

I'd like to be Grandma. My grandmothers were both referred to as Nana Surname, and my mum chose grandma. Dhs family did Nan or Nanny with a surname if needed

GMsAWinner · 15/12/2023 14:44

I choose to be called Granny, but will leave it to my DD if ever we're in that place.

SnapdragonToadflax · 15/12/2023 14:48

Grandma please, the same as my lovely grandma was (died 20 years ago so long gone). I had my son in my late 30s so will be plenty of enough to be grandma by the time any children come along!

Can't stand Nanny.

Shoppingfiend · 15/12/2023 14:49

We and PIL GM were both Grandma - I think neither were enamored with our own Grannys - hence the change.

MaidOfSteel · 15/12/2023 14:50

Nanna. And I'm hoping it will be very soon!
