Explain slippers to me

Genuinely don’t get slippers and thought Christmas might be a good time to ask.

So you’re in the house, taken off your shoes or boots and you have tights or socks. It’s inside so tights and socks are warm enough. When you want to go outside you slip on crocs, plimsolls whatever.

I don’t get slippers. Why do you need shoes indoors?

Also, many slippers are washable, if that is what is worrying to you.

I also know many people who wear Birkenstocks or similar shoes indoors. In that case those shoes are only for indoor use.

I wear shoes/boots outdoors and always barefoot indoors, I'm never cold. The rest of the family wear socks and slippers indoors because they are always freezing no matter what time of year it is.

How can you not understand slippers? Your shoes get dirty when outside and I personally wouldn't want to be walking around my house in dirty shoes that have been outside.
Slippers are much more comfortable to walk about in than barefoot/socks and they also keep your feet warm.

I find bare feet really pulls my Achilles (?) tendon. So I need a bit of support.

Sone houses are cold but the floor reflects it so why take off your shoes? I mean if it’s that cold flooring it’s not like the dirt is going to be an issue.
Carpet isn’t cold.p

Eh? Of course dirt is still an issue 🤢 Even on hard floors I'm not going to walk around all the traces of dog poo etc throughout my home.

Basically because of wooden floors and children. As soon as I had babies that were on the floor/crawling we became a no shoes indoors household. Also didn’t want stone/grit to scratch new wooden floors (which were lovely but too cold for no slippers). Then came Lego - and slippers saved my sanity from the unique pain of standing on Lego. Never wore slippers in my youth, now required for warmth and protection. One DS wears them - other doesn’t.

I wear it only in the kitchen where the floor is colder as I hate having cold feet. I also have a separate pair of flip flops for the bathroom.

Our house is all tiled and my feet become painful without the extra support. Plus they keep your feet warm. Not really that difficult to understand.

Another slippers fan, I have gone through so many thermal heat holder gripper socks, they just never last more than 5 minutes! Do you have carpets op? If I had thick pile carpets everywhere I wouldn't bother, but we have mostly tiled floors. I think it depends on your house definately. It makes your feet hard as well walking on hard floors with no padding. I prefer the ugg style slipper too, as can't be done with the ones that flip off your feet etc.

Oh and I'm in my 30s, not 70s incase anybody judges! 😂

Tbh I rarely wear slippers I much prefer walking around barefoot. I do have a pair of slippers that I wear when it's really cold particularly when I'm wfh in winter, sitting still and heating isn't on.
DH lives in his all year round but feels the cold a lot more.

All of the reasons above, OP. But one more here: cats!! Several of our past kitties and current DCat are foot-obsessed. Claws and feet don't mix. Nuff said.

I never used to wear slippers. Now I’m 40 plus my feet are so cold walking around without them. Either the floor got colder or my circulation got rubbish!

My feet get cold really easily, and when they are cold I am utterly miserable.

But you can’t wash sheepskin,/ wool slippers. And people have been wearing the same sweaty pair of slippers for years. Slippers are GRIM! Just more socks surely if you’re feet are cold. There’s thick thermal ones, warm and you can wash when needed.

Of course you can wash them! What an absolutely daft statement.

Shoes aren't as 'cosy'. I do leave shoes on sometimes, but either they're sandals which offer no warmth, or trainers which are too tight, etc. Other times I just walk around barefoot. If I want warm feet or the feel of coziness I put slippers on.

But mine are ugg style - being in Australia there are loads of them that are far more affordable than the actual Ugg brand. Wear them, wash them, have different coloured ones.... etc.

I don’t like accidentally squashing spiders in my stockinged feet - until that happened I only wore slippers when cold.
