I’d like to know how many of those followers are ‘real’ people. There’s a roaring trade in social media accounts, especially ones with a history.

I wish I’d had the foresight/energy to build up a few myself to flog on!

This made me laugh

I follow Sunak on twitter/whatever its called now. I also follow Starmer and a few others from each party.

In my experience, people follow him mainly to correct the bollocks he posts. As more people are following Sunak than Starmer, I think their are more people pissed off with him.
If a politician is doing s good job, they don't have to be followed.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/01/2024 23:06

Pretty sure I follow them both. I also still seem to be following Ben Bradley after the prostitute thing. That doesn’t mean I’ve got any intention of voting for him.

AdamRyan · 04/01/2024 10:56

Keir Starmers speech 👏👏

I am such a fan

"Do not listen to the siren voices that say we’re all the same," he says in the speech in Bristol. "We’re not, and we never will be"

Notonthestairs · 04/01/2024 11:15

I've only caught snippets but from what I've seen it's a good - and most importantly- hopeful speech. He appears to be engaging with journalists.

Roussette · 04/01/2024 11:48

I thought it was a great speech and he came across as a PM in waiting.

He answered some pressured questions and as I listened, I was imagining in my head how Johnson would've answered. No comparison

Sunak has ruled out a May election ☹️☹️☹️

I have a horrible feeling they are going to leave it until the last possible moment. All that stuff about bad weather/low turnout might not be a bad thing for them

DuncinToffee · 04/01/2024 13:09

He hasn't exactly ruled it out

https://x.com/BestForBritain/status/1742892624934051870?s=20

-"My working assumption is we'll have a general election in the second half of this year."

-"Just to clarify, you're ruling out a May general election."

-"My working assumption is we'll have a general election in the second half of this year."

Rehearsed evasion.

His working assumption will soon turn into 'I don't recall'

So he is admitting that he can't win a May election. Great leadership.

BIossomtoes · 04/01/2024 13:20

My money’s still on May.

It was an absolute joy to watch a proper grown up make a political speech and actually answer journalists’ questions without obfuscation. Hope, service and justice - who wouldn’t want to get behind that? And sleeves rolled up - hats off to whoever thought of that. I can’t wait to see Starmer head to head with Sunak, as he said “Bring it on”.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/01/2024 13:26

An autumn GE could mean Sunak will stand down to allow another🙄 leadership campaign over the summer.

Being PM looks good on the CV. Leading your party to its worst ever defeat doesn't look so good.

Nooooooooo! Please God, no!

This. I don't think it means anything either way. Integrity and all that.

Bugger. I think you might be right.

But would anyone want to replace him at this point just to lead the party to a catastrophic defeat?

Notonthestairs · 04/01/2024 13:55

Meh. Sunak will want to keep all his options open and that includes a May election.

He just wants to a) divert the positive attention from Starmer and b) avoid being called a coward for ducking an earlier date.

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/01/2024 14:24

IClaudine · 04/01/2024 13:40

Yes. Most of the party are not billionaire globalists so PM if even for a few weeks looks good for them. Look at how well Truss has done out of her disastrous tenure. Also Leader of the Opposition is much easier than PM. Sunak is so unpopular that his replacement will only need to close the gap by a few points to claim "victory".🙄

Braverman and Badinoch are already preparing for the inevitable Leadership change. Others will be too.

Have you not paid attention to who else remains in his party, some of them have been campaigning to replace him for months.

It would have the advantage for the people's favourite, Govey, Govey, Govery that he could not stand in the summer, then stand in the leadership election following the GE in whatever remains of the party.

LittleBowSheep · 04/01/2024 14:28

Typical of Sunak to try and take the limelight off Starmer.

Zonder · 04/01/2024 14:40

Well if Braverman or Badenoch get the job it would presumably add to Labour's majority.

Really annoying that they too would then get an honours list and their salary for life.
