My daughter received a Christmas cheque today for £10 from my parents today and made me realise just how long it is since I have used a cheque. I think it must be over 5 years ago - what do you use cheques for and can anyone beat me at 5 years?

I haven't owned a cheque book for at least 10 years and don't think I'd written one for at least a couple of years before that. DM did write me a cheque today as she owed me some money and at 81 can't get to grips with online banking.

Years ago, actually cant remember the last time i wrote a cheque

SgtJuneAckland · 11/12/2023 20:48

It's definitely more than five years, DH and I changed the names on our bank accounts after we got married 6 years ago, DH declined the offer of a cheque book, I said yes, he said when are you ever going to use that..... Might have to christen it and give him a cheque for Christmas

Goingwelltrying · 11/12/2023 20:50

I use my chequebook about twice a month. (Local traders who want cash or cheque)

TheGriffle · 11/12/2023 20:50

I last used mine in 2011 to pay for my wedding balloons. Didn’t bother getting a book in my married name and haven’t used one since.

BlueberryVelvet · 11/12/2023 20:50

Last week when I had to pay €16 customs charge on something that was sent to me for free.

Our post service takes cheques.

RandomUsernameHere · 11/12/2023 20:51

I can't remember but must be well over five years

FreshWinterMorning · 11/12/2023 20:52

Must be 15 years ago, when we paid a deposit for the DC to go on a school trip! Yep, around 2009. Can't believe anyone used/had a cheque as little as 5 years ago! Let alone today!

I have just written my annual cheque to the DVLA. There is one particular service we need for our small business where they request a cheque be sent in the post.

gotomomo · 11/12/2023 20:53

Summer, paying for a hobby

Nesbi · 11/12/2023 20:56

Considerably longer than a decade.

Jagley · 11/12/2023 20:56

I think I last wrote a cheque a couple of years ago for something for ds's school. We receive them each year for birthday and Christmas from a family member.

StillWantingADog · 11/12/2023 20:57

I’ve not written a cheque for decades

i received one fairly recently though, a refund for a premier inn stay where I didn’t sleep because it was so nosy. I assume they refund via cheques as many people won’t be bothered to cash! I did

MilitantFawcett · 11/12/2023 20:57

Yesterday to pay the window cleaner

HerRoyalNotness · 11/12/2023 20:59

regularly die pest control or other small business service providers. Last week was a guy cutting the trees.

bananaboats · 11/12/2023 21:00

Never owned a cheque book or written a cheque (I'm 35 if relevant!)

MadeOfAllWork · 11/12/2023 21:01

Not in the last 10 years.

ANightingale · 11/12/2023 21:02

About three weeks ago.

Angrymum22 · 11/12/2023 21:03

From income insurance group. When I took my NHS pension I no longer needed income protection. I’d built up a bonus fund so cashed it in. They made a cock up of processing so to avoid any further problems with direct payment to my bank account I requested a cheque. So that was the last cheque I received.
I did have one from BT when I transferred my business account to the new owner of the business I sold. It was for the princely sum of £0.01. I didn’t bother cashing it since it would have cost me 20p transaction charge.

Evenstar · 11/12/2023 21:04

An older friend’s wife died in November and I sent a cheque as a donation for the family’s chosen charity, it was the first one for several years.

mindutopia · 11/12/2023 21:04

Probably 8 years ago. We booked a holiday let that was pay on arrival and the owner wanted payment in cheque. Wouldn’t take cash because thought cash was dodgy and wouldn’t take a bank transfer because they didn’t trust that it would actually go through. This was well past the era where you’d use cheques so Dh had to pay from his business account because it’s the only one we had a cheque book for (were travelling for work otherwise wouldn’t have had it).

CrushingOnRubies · 11/12/2023 21:05

I've never owned a cheque book

Last paid a cheque in 2 years ago

VeryQuaintIrene · 11/12/2023 21:08

Sunday - church pledge.

muddyford · 11/12/2023 21:09

Last week. Charity donation.

Strongbeatsskinny · 11/12/2023 21:10

Can’t remember the last time I actually wrote a cheque must be 10 years ago at least. I do still have one cheque book unused. I did receive a cheque from the pet insurance company earlier in the year I was fuming about it as I pay that by DD so was shocked to see a cheque in the post.
