One opinion that you have that will never waver, no matter what?..

No comma before ‘and’ or ‘but’

Sometimes it helps

Abortion is healthcare.

Rarely.

That grout is indeed the work of the Devil.

@HeraSyndulla always

That you can’t be an animal lover AND an omnivore

The correct way to hang toilet roll is always ‘over’ never ‘under’.

Totally agree except in cases like my friend's where her cat would unwind (like, full Andrex puppy stuff) any roll hung properly, and she had to do the 'under' thing so the wall could act as a brake against feline depravity. So not quite a hill I'd die on, but very good call. Changed one just last week.

That people who care about spelling and grammar aren’t as clever as they like to think they are.

Trans people are really not the big deal Mumsnet makes them out to be and the obsession with them is blinkered and trivial.

Breastfeeding is obviously best for babies.

The Beatles are overrated.

Private schools should be converted into comprehensives so all children can benefit for their lovely buildings and facilities.

I wholeheartedly agree with three out of five of those..............

It's not about being clever. Grammar is mostly about logical thinking and common sense- I believe it reflects thought processes. Some linguists call it the grammar instinct - it's also about treating the people you communicate with with respect - making an effort to communicate as clearly as possible is part of acting maturely and thoughtfully.

Do you do this in other people's houses?!

That I never forgive someone who has indicated they believe themselves to be socially superior to me. I'm one strike and you're out with this. If anyone ever patronises me or ignore me socially or behaves in an exclusive or high-handed fashion they are instantly dead.

That's nice, pet.

ArthurbellaScott · 03/12/2023 19:06

That was a joke.

Yup, this.

IncompleteSenten · 03/12/2023 19:12

I agree about the beetles, Head north.
I never thought they were amazing.

I must admit though to a bit of intentionally winding up a poster on here a few years back - can't remember his user name - who got so genuinely angry that I didn't think they were the most fantastic thing to ever happen in the history of music that I couldn't help myself.
It was funny to watch him get madder and madder.

I can be very childish sometimes. I know.

That people who do not attend NHS health-care appointments from nurses, GP services, dentists, therapists...right up to consultant level care should be fined. This would be if they never turned up and never alerted the clinic in advance of their unavailability to free up the slot. Non attendance is a problem for the NHS, and a complete waste of staff resources. I went for a physiotherapy appointment a few days ago. The health care provider mentioned in passing that just 4 of the 11 expected patients had turned up since the clinic opened at 9am (I was seen just after 10am) so she and her colleagues were just stood around waiting.

@HeraSyndulla always

I knew somebody who had a termination because she lost an argument with her husband and wanted to teach him a lesson.

DaizenShine · 03/12/2023 19:14

Conspiracy theorists call other people sheep, but actually it's them, and the theories they spread are irresponsible and immoral.

SelfPortraitWithHagstone · 03/12/2023 19:18

That characters in films who are understood to be speaking in a foreign language but are actually speaking English should never, ever have "foreign" accents. Would you play Hamlet with a Danish accent? Nope, didn't think so.

Oh, and also on board with most of you women's rights are an actual thing. Or should be. 🙄

SelfPortraitWithHagstone · 03/12/2023 19:20

Oops, missed out a "that" there, in my hill-to-die-on passion...

In the vein of my ‘personal responsibility’ post I agree with this as well. People who object to it will say ‘but what about people who can’t afford the fine’ but seriously, this aversion to any kind of consequences for grown adults is what is strangling our public services and making this a country with low quality citizens. Not turning up to appointments, not taking the advice medical professionals give you, not getting your kid to school on time, spending money you don’t have on rubbish you don’t need while pleading poverty. The same woman in a local Facebook group who has regular breakdowns over not being able to afford anything due to bad credit rating and debt is back today asking if anyone wants her old pram (perfectly good condition) because she’s pregnant again and has bought another. Mind boggles.

Fixyourself · 03/12/2023 19:22

It's weird to drink cow tit milk that is made for their baby calf.

AmazingSnakeHead · 03/12/2023 19:24

That it is never ever in the best interest of children to introduce them to a new man in the first few months of dating, or to move him in /blend families within the first two years.

I actually think that blended families in general are almost always for the benefit of the adults and not the kids, but I wouldn't die on that hill.
