One opinion that you have that will never waver, no matter what?..

@TwigletAddict10

I don't think we are actually helping protect female rights by continuously posting the same points on Mumsnet. This is an echo chamber for the already converted.

There are also many members who want to have other discussions without it descending into a constant circular discussion about trans folk and women's rights.

I imagine it's putting more people off discussing it with openness and curiosity in the appropriate place - the feminism board.

Could not disagree more with this.

Mumsnet has been instrumental in getting the message out in the UK and across the world that women's rights should not be overridden and destroyed in the name of trans rights.

The more we talk about it the more people become aware of how toxic and regressive gender ideology is.

We will not be silenced or censored no matter how hard you try.

I wasn't saying that it was the phrase, just that it represents an improvement 😁 this isn't my hill, I was just heckling from my own mountaintop.

No men, however they feel, in women's single sex spaces.

Dogs aren't that important, they don't need to go everywhere, they are not comparable with children.

Wow. That's an odd one.

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 03/12/2023 15:18

Kind of agree with this too - l know people say it's the woman's choice and yes it is of course but why shouldn't men be able to say if they don't want a baby?

Maybe he could legally opt out before the baby is born? After the child is born its unfair. Like suddenly ditching them..

Scruffington · 03/12/2023 16:46

Have we had squibs yet? It's a damp squib!

I know squid are damp but in this context their dampness is irrelevant.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/12/2023 16:48

Children and animals should be given more respect. Their feelings matter and should be taken seriously.

Children's and animals' feelings are surely taken far, far more seriously than they ever have been in the whole of history? Some parents have so few boundaries and bow to their children's feelings to such an extent that it is very detrimental to the child's development as a person.

@Winnading not death, but there is discrimination

OneMorePlant · 03/12/2023 16:50

Men are not and can't ever be women.

It does not matter how they behave, what they like, what they look like, how they identify, what they do, what clothes they wear or what cosmetic procedures they have endured.

They are and always will be men.

VanityDiesHard · 03/12/2023 16:50

It is not racist to not be attracted to certain races (I say that as a half black woman) It is also not transphobic to want to date people of the biological sex you are attracted to. I am not as pressed about trans issues as some on this thread, but I do think that anyone who demands sexual attraction for any reason is wrong.

Yes that's what l think too. But no going back after he has made his decision

Chocolate never ever goes with chocolate? I think you'll find that it does ... 😁

@Ebokebok except when the and is joining 2 independent clauses! If you use it before a final 'and' in a list it's actually optional. Definitely not wrong though...

Gonks have nothing to do with Christmas.

I only heard that word for the first time this year. Are they goblins? Wizards? Why are they shuffling about with their eyes covered? Where have they come from?

I'm perplexed by gonks.

I disagree but we are both entitled to our opinion.

I think this website comes across as obsessive, where discussion gets shut down if you don't repeat the same old talking points.

It's a lovely place for the already converted but it's not going to help open up the minds of the gen z women in my office, for example. They are not going to engage with this website at all because of it's reputation.

Just my opinion. I'm generally all for measured responses in most things so I'm never going to be militant about stuff. If you think that is somehow censoring you then honestly what hope is there for decent discussion on the topic?

miniegg3 · 03/12/2023 16:45

I do agree with this (I was the OP of the 'paper abortions' post) and that is why it isn't uncomplicated. I just think that if there is a situation where there is a couple who got pregnant by accident and the woman wants to keep the baby but the man does not, it is not fair to make him be a father, either finacially or in any other way. If we accept, as we should, that women cannot have motherhood forced upon them, then we have to give men the same agency.

Mirabai · 03/12/2023 16:56

Cutting bits off and sticking them somewhere else does not make them female any more than it makes them Korean.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/12/2023 16:56

I’d say the main issue is the right to not face discrimination for simply existing! Unfortunately trans people experience discrimination, violence and of course death at disproportionate rates.

There was a FOI request to the Office For National Statistics for the statistics for violent crime against trans people (compared with the general population) from 2013 to 2023. Their response was that there were so few incidences within the group of those identifying as trans that the data would not be meaningful. https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/violentcrimeratefortransgenderpeoplecomparedwiththegeneralpopulation2013to2023
