One opinion that you have that will never waver, no matter what?..

That a five day working week is too much. It is outdated and implies the existence of a 'wife' taking care of the domestic. And it's not lazy to think that.

Absolutely agree !

Scruffington · 03/12/2023 16:35

Desecratedcoconut · 03/12/2023 16:33

😁 I mean, how could you possibly know?

Quite easily.

Lovelyjubbbly · 03/12/2023 16:35

@Ebokebok YESSSSS!!!

Desecratedcoconut · 03/12/2023 16:30

You were thinking one thing would happen but, actually, you have another thing coming. Thinking about it will be too late by then.

Edited

If you think that’s what the phrase means then you’ve got another think coming 🤣

Yetmorebeanstocount · 03/12/2023 16:36

Ebokebok · 03/12/2023 13:31

Yes it does and you should therefore know that you never put a coma before and 🙈

The 'Oxford' comma is perfectly acceptable. That is my hill.

This

I don't HATE trans people at all, I have worked with a couple over the years and have treated them the same as everyone else.

However, someone cannot change gender, its physically impossible. I also see why others wouldn't like biological males in women's toilets, or to compete in women's sports.

I also 100% believe it is a mental health problem that needs addressing, not a physical one.

Yep

But the phrase starts, "if you think that". It has to be "....think....another think"

Another thing coming only appears to make sense to people because they've forgotten the first bit.

It is think. No question.

I've never heard it prefaced by, "If you think that..."

I do know that the consensus is that "think" is correct and "thing" is wrong - I'm just saying that "thing" does make sense.

Zone2NorthLondon · 03/12/2023 16:37

All my children went nursery FT from 6month old. It was always part of the plan. Having children isn’t a giving things up competition. The children fit in around me,and our adult couple needs. My partner knew this from the outset and luckily we agree. Being a housewife is a new affectation a middle class confection. Historically most women have always worked, at points at home doing piece work and there wasn’t a notion of not working . Idleness was a pursuit of the wealthy not a common endeavour

mantyzer · 03/12/2023 16:38

That people matter and that no group should ever be dehumanised.

Hastheslotharrivedyet · 03/12/2023 16:38

DuesToTheDirt · 03/12/2023 16:25

If you thought this "thing" was going to happen, well it isn't - you've got another "thing" coming.

Makes perfect sense to me!

It’s “think”.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 03/12/2023 14:48

That there are far too many domesticated animals in rescue centres to be continually breeding and producing new ones. If you want a pet you should adopt one instead of buying from a breeder or a pet shop.

It's not that easy to adopt! Otherwise I would have.

ThatshallotBaby · 03/12/2023 16:39

Children and animals should be given more respect. Their feelings matter and should be taken seriously.

xogossipgirlxo · 03/12/2023 16:39

That cats need to go outside to be happy, otherwise it’s CrUeL.

DappledThings · 03/12/2023 16:39

Some topical ones:

A Christmas tree without tinsel is a sad and makes tree.

Christmas decorations should stay up until Twelfth Night. If you take them down before it you shouldn't be allowed to put them up at all.

Father Christmas only brings stocking presents. Small bits that fit in a stocking. Everything else is from whoever it is from and sits under the tree for days before Christmas.

xogossipgirlxo · 03/12/2023 16:39

I mean that I disagree with this statement. Cats should stay indoors.

Inastatus · 03/12/2023 16:40

@Desecratedcoconut - the original saying is most definitely ‘another think coming’. The ‘thing’ version is a variant based on mishearing ‘think’ as ‘thing’ but has made its way into common parlance.

Yes, the first bit being forgotten is why people have started getting it wrong

Winnading · 03/12/2023 16:41

CatMadam · 03/12/2023 13:59

I’d say the main issue is the right to not face discrimination for simply existing! Unfortunately trans people experience discrimination, violence and of course death at disproportionate rates.

This comes up again and again. Do you have any proof of this hyperbole? Because over in fwr we know it's not true.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/12/2023 16:41

No one need explain / justify why they don’t want to go out with someone.

Allwelcone · 03/12/2023 16:42

@whitetip people change all the time! I find it quite unsettling. But are you really tje same person as 20 years ago? I know I'm not.

Froodwithatowel · 03/12/2023 16:42

That you can only believe that equality of concern for female access, inclusion, feelings and safety is 'seething hatred' and 'bigotry' by first believing that female humans are born subordinate to male ones.

goodgriefsean · 03/12/2023 16:43

Dogs aren't that important, they don't need to go everywhere, they are not comparable with children.

I agree with the first two but I always think the 'FC/Santa only brings stocking presents' rule to be a bit sad and needy on the part of parents. Just my opinion.

DappledThings · 03/12/2023 16:40

Yes, the first bit being forgotten is why people have started getting it wrong

Not to mention the fact that people mispronounce words so much nowadays that "think" and "thing" sound the same to a lot of people.

Also, aphorisms are not taught at school anymore.

MsJuniper · 03/12/2023 13:10

It's "another think coming"

Not about to die on this particular hill, but completely agree!
