At the risk of lowering the tone after that…

Not sure this has played out quite how Tory Twitter admin were hoping.

I was just going to post that because I couldn't believe it was genuine; and was going to check here. . Jesus it's embarrassing

tobee · 07/12/2023 18:42

Anyway the Tories are just going to be going for immigration because it's all they have. And if it doesn't work; because the electorate don't feel the way the Tories are suggesting, well it's still a distraction from any other focus on government incompetence.

Although this does not apply to Braverman; she just has a dark heart and a twisted mind

I’d imagine Maryam Moshiri is greatful it might distract from her accidentally flipping the bird at the camera not realising she was live on air.

AdamRyan · 07/12/2023 19:39

Actually I've just scrolled through the accounts posts and it's depressing as fuck. How the hell have we ended up with a government that posts that kind of bilge on social media? I detest them

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/12/2023 20:19

PMSL Andrea Jenkyns is trending on Twitter.

TokyoSushi · 07/12/2023 21:07

Sky News seemed to be doing a massive row back this evening 'indications are the bill will pass next week' 'Sunak might be about to step back from the precipice' etc.

Are the Tories going to vote it through? If only to save their jobs for a few more months because they know that if it doesn't go through they're fckd?

Notonthestairs · 07/12/2023 21:18

Well after listening to Charles Walker on the News Agents it seems like the One Nationers will back it. Apparently there are no other policy choices available to them 🙄

I wonder if the New Cons/EGR/Common Sense Group (double eye roll there) might capitulate to Sunak. They can't seriously expect to weaken the party further and force another leadership election can they?
That said they are obsessed with removing human rights so who knows.

newnamethanks · 07/12/2023 22:18

I bet Lord Cameron is thrilled to have thrown his toys in with this lot. Will this chuck em out bill get through the HOL?

Cameron clearly hasn't learnt from Brexit, the referendum was meant to appease the loons, but all it did was embolden them, and meant they had to find another object for their daily hates.

RafaistheKingofClay · 07/12/2023 22:49

They absolutely can vote against it and start a leadership war.and anybody in the star chamber is mad enough to do it.

What is this star chamber nonsense?
Is it something to do with Nad's book?

Notonthestairs · 07/12/2023 22:59

WHAT?

NEW: The cost of the govt’s Rwanda scheme has doubled before a single migrant has been sent there. Home Office admits tonight it has handed over another £100m this year, on top of the original £140m cost - with a further £50m to follow next year

Notonthestairs · 07/12/2023 23:00

The revelation will trigger angry questions from MPs who were told last month the govt would not be giving a ‘running commentary’ on the bill. Home Office writing to select committee chairs tonight to confirm the cost of the Rwanda scheme is on course to rise from £140m to £290m

Notonthestairs · 07/12/2023 23:02

Interestingly Jason Groves is Daily Mail Political Editor. Does the Mail want rid of Sunak I wonder?

Anyway £290 million!

Notonthestairs · 07/12/2023 23:03

Whoops, sorry. Didn't spot you were discussing this elsewhere!

DuncinToffee · 07/12/2023 23:04

Even the DM can't justify that amount for sending a few hundred vulnerable people to Rwanda

just spread the word, if people don't care about refugees, they will care about their tax money.

When you think how much good £290m could do in the care or SEN systems, the waste is absolutely heartbreaking.

"When you think how much good £290m could do in the care or SEN systems, the waste is absolutely heartbreaking."

It really is.

If, and it's a big IF.. the Rwanda Bonkers Plan comes off... who would fly them? The last airline has said they will not be doing it again.

Social media will implode if it's a well known one. And this is what happened last time...
Privilege Style, a Mallorca-based company, has said it will no longer operate flights to Rwanda following an email campaign organised by the Freedom from Torture charity.

Maybe Sunak could fly them in his private jet?

Notonthestairs · 07/12/2023 23:26

The Times running from page story criticising the practicality of Sunaks Rwanda deal.

Unnamed lawyers quoted and MP/solicitor.
I assume that means Jenrick (and allies) getting an early swing at it.

This is the question Cleverly refused to answer more than once in the commons yesterday. The Rwanda payment is an annual payment with a report given annually on how much is spent. He was asked twice whether more had been spent this year. The Rwandan government must be laughing pretty hard right now. They’ve received £240 million for us to send no asylum seekers to them.

Interestingly the question they refused to answer on Sky this morning was whether we’d end up taking the asylum seekers from Rwanda before we sent any there. At which point they’ll be laughing harder.

It really is peak post 2016 Tory party.

RafaistheKingofClay · 08/12/2023 00:19

In further WTF are the Tories doing on Twitter today, the state of this.

I’m assuming the intent wasn’t to make me feel ashamed to be British.

I hope someone's having a look at where the Rwanda dosh is ending up. Given the diversion of Covid funds into Tory pockets I ask you all to forgive my suspicious mind in advance of an inquiry that will inevitably be along in a few years.
