Is this local to my area or is everywhere being inundated by people wearing dry robes like they're a winter coat?

There is a fantastic group on FB
called Dry Robe Wankers it was shared with me after I had purchased one for my DH.

The group is https://www.facebook.com/share/d3hXs1KKGN9ehTwQ/?mibextid=K35XfP

I really want one, not for the school run, I swim and do aqua pilates and aqua HIIT I think it would be great when I'm leaving the pool, often it's in the evening so I get dressed only to go home and get changed into pyjamas

Vitriolinsanity · 19/11/2023 14:56

They were EVERYWHERE in N Cornwall this summer. I caved and bought one for the DC for post sport. They are pretty amazing for that.

If you need to cover up on the school run because you cannot spend five minutes getting dressed, then you need to take a good hard look at yourself and self-respect. Or you are drinking too much in the evening. Or both.

Or you are someone who is ill or disabled. Works shifts etc…,

I now feel it is my mission in life to make an appearance on here......

I own 2 - both in "club" colours so I feel that makes me the queen of dry robe wankers 😂

@WhatWindyWeather
I bought mine initially for after water sports and did end up wearing it for other things like garden drinking during covid (wine pocketers unite!!)
And the fact I am always always cold there is no coat I've ever worn that is as warm.

My autoimmune diseases have been flaring and I've been wheelchair bound for a while now.
This is the BEST coat I've ever worn.
As you will know you do get colder outside when sitting down as you aren't moving. This is snuggly, completely windproof and waterproof.
Also the sleeves give room to self propell and don't get shredded by the wheels.
Its also extremely comfortable to fold under and set on if I'm in shops and too hot.

I'm 5'5 about and I have a small, it goes to mid calf when standing. If you aren't going to be changing under it I think a small would fit most sizes to about a 16.

I think they are a great idea for those with limited mobility and for once don't only come in NHS beige so we can have a bit of fun with our choices 😉

The most popular equestrian version is made by Equidry. https://equidry.co.uk/

They are brilliant because they keep you covered from head down to your boots so not only do you stay dry in this never-ending wet weather, but your clothes stay clean underneath.

EQUIDRY | The Ultimate Equestrian Waterproof Horse Riding Coat

EQUIDRY specialises in oversized, unisex, waterproof equestrian coats for horse riding & all that love the outdoors. 7 styles, 12 sizes and over 50 colour-ways makes EQUI DRY coats the go to brand for those seeking functionality, style and originality....

They are ideal for spending the cold, wet hours on the sidelines of a rugby/football game.

enjoyingscience · 19/11/2023 16:39

Both of my kids do cross country, so we spend most weekends deep in mud, usually with horizontal sleet and howling wind. We are all proud dry robe wankers. I don’t actually have one of my own, but nick theirs while they run. Absolutely amazing things.

Probably wouldn’t wear one to work though.

WhichIsItWendy · 19/11/2023 16:57

I had never heard of them but having googled them, they look great!!

Definitely adding to my 'to buy in the future' list!

RudsyFarmer · 19/11/2023 16:59

It’s a trend. When they start selling rip off versions at the market people will move on.

Mumofteenandtween · 19/11/2023 17:16

Everyone has missed the best thing about the DryRobe - you don’t wear it instead of a coat - it fits over the top of a coat! Two coats!

If the thought of this does not make you very very happy then you have better* kids than mine.

*by better I mean ones who didn’t inconsiderately fall in love with a sport that takes place outdoors, year round, often in the dark and requires parental viewing at all times due to a relatively high risk of injury. In my next life I am debating between darts and badminton to get my kids into. (Darts has a bar but I really like the “ping” noise that a shuttlecock makes when it hits a racket. Decisions, decisions…..)

SpaceRaiders · 19/11/2023 17:23

I’m a hockey/ swim squad mum and I spend hours on the sidelines in all types of weather. Yes, they’re everywhere here. I can kind of see the appeal but I couldn’t justify the price.

Shedoesasshepleases · 19/11/2023 17:26

I like the idea of towelling lining in the Mountain Warehouse one. I have an over the head towelling changing garment (the type mums in the 60's used to make by sewing 2 bath towels together.) I use this when I get out of the lido to warm up and dry off. I then chuck on a huge fleece and pull on trousers. I would have thought the fleece in a dry robe wouldn't be good for drying off?

enchantedsquirrelwood · 19/11/2023 17:28

Element Karbon do their own version of them. They have some funky designs.

I don't have one as I don't need them, a coat is fine for me!

CrotchetyQuaver · 19/11/2023 17:41

They're very good, that's why they're popular. I've been wearing mine today standing around in a bitterly cold wind and was lovely and warm in it!

Seaitoverthere · 19/11/2023 17:42

Could I go to the swimming pool, come out and chuck one on and drive home?! I can’t bend one leg and don’t go swimming as can’t face trying to get dressed in the changing room.

I've already seen companies making cheapo versions

Yes, 100%.

Thank you @enjoyingscience

piscofrisco · 19/11/2023 20:59

I'm used to be a dog Walker and in winter my dry robe was my absolute saviour. Warm, dry, pockets agogo.
