Is this local to my area or is everywhere being inundated by people wearing dry robes like they're a winter coat?

😆 Came back to this thread to post exactly this! I've got an outdoor oodie which is not actually a dry robe but it's the size of Devon! (I love it though). The GLC line about having to wear it all the time because it won't fit in the wardrobe did make me laugh 😂

Ha, I see that I've been pipped to the post! Great minds think alike!!

olympicsrock · 18/02/2024 09:46

Absolutely love mine. I mainly wear mine when watching my kids play sport over winter. Stay toasty when standing in the rain / cold / wind. I also sea swim …
It’s been a total game changer

They are so chav. It’s like range rovers- such ugly cars but people bought them as thought they showed style/ class when ever my chav going now owns one.
Dry Robes are horrendous things I feel queasy when I see one - the hideous branding on the back- as if people think a brand/ label saying DRY ROBE = style or class.

...queasy? Pull yourself together.

I believe that the collective noun for wearers is 'dry robe wankers' according to a recent MN thread.

Yeah the fb page keeps popping up in my feed. People take photos of people in robes out and about and laugh at them on the page. Not mature or kind but it would put me off wearing one.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 22/02/2024 10:24

Saw a woman doing her Sainsbury shop in one.

PaintedPottery · 22/02/2024 10:30

I have one that’s not the DryRobe brand. I spend quite a bit of my working day outdoors and in this wet and windy weather, it’s ideal. I’d struggled for the past couple of years to get a suitable coat, but this is perfect.

"They are so chav"
Lovely.
This sort of snobbish, superior comment makes me more determined to go and buy one, just to make people like you feel "queasy".

I live in a coastal region where there are lots of beaches and water sports going on year round, so Dry Robes and similar are everywhere; worn by sea swimmers, surfers, paddleboarders, windsurfer, kitesurfers, canoeists etc.

So if you come here you'd probably better bring smelling salts.

Chickpea17 · 22/02/2024 10:55

Just got one for my birthday and absolutely love it. Great for walking the dog in all this wet weather and just a really good warm coat in general.

Honey just stop. You are making yourself look bad. Wild swimmers wear them. Not chav. Equestrians wear them. About as unchav as you can be. Range Rovers are practical for a lot of country pursuits. Unchav pursuits. Towing a horse box for example. You would very limited in your experience of the world.

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 22/02/2024 12:03

My DH bought me a DryRobe alternative brand a few years ago as I wanted to start sea swimming. Gave me the push I needed and now I go regularly all year round. Only wear mine when going swimming but lots of other sea swimmers swear by them for dog walking. I live 10 minutes drive from swimming areas and often stick a cossie on with dry robe over the top. Keeps the car seats dry. In the winter I can change into my clothes under it because it’s so huge.

I am allowed to wear one for it’s intended purpose or am I a dry robe wanker? If so I can live with it because I get free exercise in the sea all year round.

No, you're not a DRW if you use it for the intended purpose.

Janedoe82 · 22/02/2024 14:06

They aren’t chavvy in Northern Ireland. It’s all the middle class parents wearing them to kids sporting fixtures! Kids all have them too.

CornishGem1975 · 22/02/2024 14:07

I'd not say they were chavvy either but there is a certain demographic that wear them, with similar characteristics. It's become a bit of a uniform.

12manyimo · 22/02/2024 14:46

I'm always out in my dry robe, horse shoe jeans, crocs & socks ensemble. 😆

xsquared · 22/02/2024 15:17

I don't see them in everyday life like the supermarket, but they are ubiquitous amongst runners post race.

pulloverpolly · 24/02/2024 13:49

I live in a "hipster" London suburb and you don't see them around here as a rule. I did see a few at my DS's football game last week worn by mums from the opposing team who had travelled from Essex. I'm guessing if I went a bit further east from were I live I'd start to see more.
