not before time - wonder who will get the poison chalice.

if William Hague is still in the commons, but o don’t think he is, Rishi would be wise to draw in his experience and counsel.

What's popular with the Tory membership isn't popular with the rest of the country - if they are foolish enough to elect SB as leader it will be a good day for Labour.

PermanentTemporary · 13/11/2023 10:24

Appointing Cameron looks like Sunak holding out an olive branch to the centrists (allegedly, he always seems pretty RW to me) and perhaps accepting that he can't out-rightward tack the headbangers. They are just a permanent parliamentary and social media headache.

So much damage already done though. That King's Speech. Police being assaulted by right-wingers.

Cleverly at Home might be a reasonable call though. And I'm delighted Barclay has gone from health, though afraid we'll get Coutinho next, who seems to be trying to be a headbanger herself.

Passepartoute · 13/11/2023 10:25

A question though, what on earth does a sacked MP no longer in government do to earn money?

Interesting question. She pretty well fucked her legal career with her dreadful performance as Attorney General, and I can't see any barristers' chambers or major solicitors' firm seriously wanting her on their books. She'll probably aim to go the usual route of getting a few directorships and going on the public speaking circuit.

travelnorth · 13/11/2023 10:25

ha,ha,ha… but but Cameron and is worse and this and that. 🥱

FSTraining · 13/11/2023 10:31

I see the pig fucker has been given the Foreign Office despite not being an MP. Rishi is really scraping the barrel now if he's picked the man who caused Brexit to have anything to do with our external relations.

RedToothBrush · 13/11/2023 10:32

Cameron to FOREIGN SECRETARY of all things...

😵😝🙃😬😂🤔😱

In the week that Farage is locked up in Help! I'm A Cockend Isolation.

😵😝🙃😬😂🤔😱

There is something poetic about that.

About time too. That woman has some serious issues, no way should she be anywhere near public office let alone a cabinet job.

They earn around £86k as an MP on the backbenches. It will still be a lot more than she was earning for the kind of legal work she was doing (pub licenses mostly).

LlynTegid · 13/11/2023 10:33

There is one positive thing from Suella Braverman's time in government- there is now maternity leave provision for ministers.

Not sure whether it is hundreds or thousands of negatives.

that cat must love his moment of glory

I think Larry would be an excellent Home Secretary!

ButDaddyILoveHim · 13/11/2023 10:34

What does it say about the current parliamentary Tory party that they have to bring Cameron back? Sunak is effectively admitting that there is no one capable of managing the job of FS, so they bring back the ex-PM who ran away.

Sunak was positioning himself as the 'change' PM, has made recent speeches that in which he's distanced himself from the last 13 years of Tory leadership, and yet he drags Cameron (not even an MP) back to one of the great offices of state?

Talk about rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic. What an absolute farce.

Sunak is effectively saying rom a pool of 350 MPs, none of them are up to the job of Foreign Secretary. And he's probably right.

She'll come back as the next fascist Tory leader with her dog whistle bringing in the extremist votes. People like her should be banned from politics forever.

Hear. Hear.

On another thread it was mooted that she could be classed as an extremist in her new definition and should be reported to Prevent.

OneMorePlant · 13/11/2023 10:38

Sad that she is sacked. I don't understand the dislike for her.

HRTQueen · 13/11/2023 10:38

And she is now a step closer to being party leader

she is being fed by some on the right that she could do what Boris Johnson did in 2019

another totally self serving Tory party leader is not what the country needs at all

Queucumber · 13/11/2023 10:38

None of them want to associate themselves with his leadership now.

SerafinasGoose · 13/11/2023 10:38

It would be hard to find a former PM who has left this country with an even worse legacy than Tony Blair.

Step forward David Cameron, and the total shitshow known as Brexit he left behind ...

AzureBlue99 · 13/11/2023 10:40

People make all the right noises in public. Europe forever, Tories out, Evil Suella. But at the ballot box they vote for Tories like they did for Brexit. They are not vocal about which is why Brexit caused absolute shockwaves through the country. People on both sides who make all the noise are not necessarily being honest at the ballot box.

Queucumber · 13/11/2023 10:40

Cameron has no reputation to lose. He’s the perfect fit.

LoobyDop · 13/11/2023 10:40

Wonder why on earth he didn’t ask Theresa May, if he wanted an experienced centrist. At least she’s an MP.

Costacoffeeplease · 13/11/2023 10:41

No. Never

LlynTegid · 13/11/2023 10:41

@AzureBlue99 the disguised or hidden Tory is well known, which is the main reason why I don't think a Labour majority is a certainty come the general election.

Costacoffeeplease · 13/11/2023 10:41

That should have quoted ‘I think most people have forgiven Cameron’

Not sure how the architect of austerity and Brexit is a vote winner.

Never underestimate the shortness of the memory of the Great British Public...
