not before time - wonder who will get the poison chalice.

if William Hague is still in the commons, but o don’t think he is, Rishi would be wise to draw in his experience and counsel.

I wonder how easy it is for Cameron to drop whatever it is that he's been doing to take the FO job?

Here comes Therese Coffey

MrsJellybee · 13/11/2023 10:02

Just announced. DC is the new FS.

MyCircumference · 13/11/2023 10:02

terese coffey on her way to downing street also

roarrfeckingroar · 13/11/2023 10:03

As a Tory voter - centrist liberal right sort of Tory - I'm happy to see Cameron back. Good on him, he's had the last laugh.

BeadedBubbles · 13/11/2023 10:03

Appointing David Cameron could be seen as a shrewd move. Or it could just show that he doesn't have anyone in his current cabinet that he thinks could do it.

And presumably DC won't be able to speak in the HoC which will be odd.

MyCircumference · 13/11/2023 10:04

Baron Cameron

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 13/11/2023 10:05

Remember Braverman used to be chair of the ERG.
Maybe Sunak is cleansing the cabinet. In which case he probably needs Cameron.

Omg Cameron looks like he’s get Foreign Secretary - he was international statesman did the world stage. I’m not a conservative, but that’s a wise move, as at least Cameron has an international reputation (Brexit!!!)

Seriously? Do you live in a parallel universe? He called people's bluff with Brexit and then resigned, because he lost.

And let's give him his full name:

David "The Multimillionaire Who Took Every Penny Possible in Benefits For His Disabled Son And Then Cut Them Off For Everyone Else" Fucking Cameron.

Womencanlift · 13/11/2023 10:05

Now she just needs to get sacked as an MP at the next GE and then she will hopefully disappear into oblivion.

Although knowing this country she will end up in the HOL and we will still be paying for her to talk shit all day

It’s an interesting move. Really didn’t see that one coming

HeidiWhole · 13/11/2023 10:08

I totally agree with @hazelnutlatte
SB is disliked by the vocal minority. I reckon she must be pretty popular with the brexit crew. If she gets leadership I reckon they could win the next election based on the silent majority.
What a mess.

Brexit did win and it’s hard to know how much that crosses over to SB support with public

sally037 · 13/11/2023 10:12

Not sure how the architect of austerity and Brexit is a vote winner.

Wasn't he lobbying the government on behalf of Greensill too and got paid £70 million to ask if taxpayers money could be diverted to their bank account.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 13/11/2023 10:13

Leaving aside opinions on Cameron himself, I know it's perfectly allowed, but I don't think unelected people should be allowed in positions like that.
I may be wrong, but can lords speak in the House of Commons? I didn't think so. So the actual foreign Secretary can't be questioned by MPs that way?

TheThingIsYeah · 13/11/2023 10:13

What a shame she's gone, the actions of the Met on Saturday merely proved her point. Still, government policy these days is determined by the level of OUTRAGE on Twitter, so she had to go.

TheMurderousGoose · 13/11/2023 10:15

Cameron back again. Well, well, well.

I didn't see that coming.

Topseyt123 · 13/11/2023 10:15

I'm glad she's gone. She won't be missed.

However, I hope she is not positioning herself for a pop at getting the leadership job, but suspect she is. That would be scary.

It is possible to be a cabinet minister without being an MP in the House of Commons. Margaret Thatcher had Lord Carrington, and wasn't he Foreign Secretary too? More recently there was David Frost (Frosty the No-man). It's not a regular thing, but there is no impediment to it being done and it looks like Rishi might be considering it here.

We have never needed a general election more than we do right now!!

SabrinaThwaite · 13/11/2023 10:15

Thisbastardcomputer · 13/11/2023 09:23

David Cameron, the boy who ran away, promised brexit and shit himself when it happened.

Suella has bigger balls than any of the rest of them, I might not agree with her policy but balls that woman has in spades.

I think you’re confusing “has balls” with “is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect”.

Passepartoute · 13/11/2023 10:17

AzureBlue99 · 13/11/2023 09:59

@hazelnutlatte Suella appeals to the silent majority. Like Brexit did. Just because those who dislike her are more vocal, she is pushing all the right buttons with a lot of people. She is supported but not publicly. I can see her getting leadership. And I can see her getting the Tories back in if that happens.

We are in a mess. All this is just adding to it.

She's only scoring around 16% in popularity polls. There would have to be an awful lot of silent supporters to overcome that sort of deficit.

hellesbells · 13/11/2023 10:18

AzureBlue99 · 13/11/2023 09:17

She will be the next Tory leader. She knew what she was doing when she made that inflammatory speech. She can go all guns blazing now. She is probably the only one who can stand a chance against Starmer.

Meanwhile, first time ever, I am not voting. It's all a game whoever gets in.

No she wont this is just talk on social media, she has a rating of -35 with the British public -35!! she will not be the next Conservative Leader not even they are that stupid

Passepartoute · 13/11/2023 10:19

Westfacing · 13/11/2023 10:01

Here comes Therese Coffey

Deputy to Cameron and FO spokesperson in the Commons?

hazelnutlatte · 13/11/2023 10:21

I really hope that the silent majority doesn't support Braverman - but what do I know, I was gobsmacked at Brexit! I'm horrified at the thought of her as future PM.
On the flip side, maybe this will finally be the thing that destroys the tory party - those on the right will want Braverman as leader, but the more moderate Tory MP's will never stomach her.

No she doesn't. She appeals to a very noisy minority.
