not before time - wonder who will get the poison chalice.

if William Hague is still in the commons, but o don’t think he is, Rishi would be wise to draw in his experience and counsel.

I had no idea a person could be appointed to the cabinet without being an MP - is this a common occurance that has just passed me by? If this is the case, why doesn't the PM just fill the cabinet with a load of his mates and backers?

Neither did I. The poor BBC News reporter thought he was seeing things for a minute.

LittleLlama · 13/11/2023 09:31

It’s a bit “deck chairs on the titanic” time really!

boris Johnson put that other slime David Frost in the cabinet by quickly making him a Lord.
I think ex prime ministers become a Lord eventually anyway.
unusual but not unprecedented.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 13/11/2023 09:32

It has happened before, pulling in someone from the Lords is a bit of a "whoops, the shit has hit the fan" moment.

AgnesX · 13/11/2023 09:33

Let's see what other piece of dross gets the job. None of them inspire confidence.

MyCircumference · 13/11/2023 09:34

they might have to back track, they dont know why cameron was going in, he might have had a coincidental meeting.

yummyscummymummy01 · 13/11/2023 09:37

Never thought I'd say this but I'd be very relieved to have David Cameron as foreign secretary at the moment.

lljkk · 13/11/2023 09:37

what do polls say about Braverman's chances?
I imagine she's poisonous & will keep Tories in wilderness even longer, she isn't popular with centrist or swing voters.

The bbc correspondent seems very confident and I don’t think he would be unless he’d had a tip off

TheUsualChaos · 13/11/2023 09:38

Good. She will be a trouble maker as long as she remains in her seat but she won't be the next party leader. Bloody hell, even the Tories have their limits!

Passepartoute · 13/11/2023 09:41

I wonder how easy it is for Cameron to drop whatever it is that he's been doing to take the FO job?

MyCircumference · 13/11/2023 09:41

i dont think anyone had a tip off, they just saw him go in and are putting two and two together, not surprising

VikingVolva · 13/11/2023 09:42

Coincidental meeting? In the middle of a reshuffle. Yeah, right

We never know for sure until announced, but I think Cameron might do a decent job as Foreign Sec

Wonder if May would ever go back as Home Sec?

BethDuttonsTwin · 13/11/2023 09:43

Maddy70 · 13/11/2023 08:58

Yes. She will be the next leader of the Tories. As if they couldn't be any worse

Good. I’ll vote for her 😊

shockeditellyou · 13/11/2023 09:45

It's the death of the Tory party as we know it - there are too many moderates who won't vote for her. They'll go for the LibDebs.

The Tories problem is they can't keep the Home Counties and the Red Wall at the same time any more.

derxa · 13/11/2023 09:46

It's a bit like Dallas and Bobby Ewing in the shower. It's all been a bad dream.
I like David Cameron and I wish he was still PM.

TooBigForMyBoots · 13/11/2023 09:49

Hahaha hahaha.

Westfacing · 13/11/2023 09:50

Cameron??

He got us in this mess with the referendum - without this we wouldn't have had Bozo and Truss as prime ministers, and all the instability that Tory infighting brought upon us over the years!

CharlotteBog · 13/11/2023 09:51

What a great start to the week.
Only until you think beyond the actual sacking obviously.

hazelnutlatte · 13/11/2023 09:54

Surely Suella isn't really likely to be the next party leader - is that really her plan? It's my impression that she is really unpopular with the public so why would the party want her as leader?

JustFrustrated · 13/11/2023 09:55

I actually think Sunak played this right.

He waited to see how the chips landed. He made it clear he hadnt authorised, nor agreed with the editorial but let it play out

It's about time we started having a less reactionary government.

A question though, what on earth does a sacked MP no longer in government do to earn money?

miniaturepixieonacid · 13/11/2023 09:55

Moving Cleverly from foreign to home secretary seems an odd move in the middle of the middle east crisis. Someone else has to learn that job now. Is home secretary more prestigious than foreign or something? (I should probably know that!)

MyCircumference · 13/11/2023 09:57

i think the majority of people have forgiven david cameron.

AzureBlue99 · 13/11/2023 09:59

@hazelnutlatte Suella appeals to the silent majority. Like Brexit did. Just because those who dislike her are more vocal, she is pushing all the right buttons with a lot of people. She is supported but not publicly. I can see her getting leadership. And I can see her getting the Tories back in if that happens.

We are in a mess. All this is just adding to it.
