How often do you weigh yourself?

I should do it once a week with being on a weight loss programme but I have not done it since maybe summer and have found it scary and liberating at the same time in terms of not getting ‘obsessed’ by the number on scales.

Never. I used to do it daily, it wasn't good for my mind. My weight is what it is and I don't want to go back to fixating on it. I'm more muscular than I was when I was obsessed with being light so I'm bound to weigh more.

Houseplanter · 13/11/2023 17:28

@ZupZapZop I'm happy to see normal fluctuations.. too old for period water retention now, but it was certainly a factor in years gone by.

I just need to see the overall picture in order to keep a handle on things.

Never. Don't own scales. Never have.
Didn't stop DD developing an ED tho. Hey ho. Best laid plans and all that...

MRSMTO · 13/11/2023 18:28

Every single day. Sometimes twice.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/11/2023 18:38

I have no intention of weighing myself ever again. Not because I'm in any danger of getting obsessive about it - I'm absolutely not. I just can't be arsed and I don't think it ever helped me with weight loss when I did weigh myself in the past tbh.

I don't need a target weight or to measure anything. I have accepted, after decades of mucking about with different diets, that I will never be a size 10. I will continue to bob around between the slimmer end of a 14 and the slimmer end of a 16 and just eat a bit less when my clothes feel a bit tighter.

NotStartedChristmasShoppingYet · 13/11/2023 18:40

When I was dieting I weighed daily.
Since reaching target I weigh once, maybe twice, per week to keep myself on track.

SittingOnTheChair · 13/11/2023 18:43

Never owned them so only at hotels.

terraced · 13/11/2023 18:43

Daily. It shows me that it does fluctuate quite alot.

Thesearmsofmine · 13/11/2023 18:44

Never. We don’t have scales. I think the last time was probably when I was pregnant with youngest dc 8 years ago.

Spudlover · 13/11/2023 18:50

Every day at the moment. As soon as I stop, I gain. I need to hold myself accountable.

KohlaParasaurus · 13/11/2023 18:51

Two or three times a month, and I record the number and make a note of any unusual circumstances. I'm at an age where I can't take good health for granted, so I want to have evidence of any involuntary changes in my weight in either direction.

bryceQ · 13/11/2023 18:53

Rarely. I never want to be obsessed. I take my measurements sometimes to track fat around my abdomen though

AmyDudley · 13/11/2023 18:56

Never. I had a serious eating disorder as a young woman (I'm now 63) and I used to weigh myself many times a day and became obsessed with needing to lose weight every day . I was severely under weight and very unwell
I consider it now as an alcoholic might consider having a drink - I will never do it or I could end up on that route again. If I have to be weighed at the doctors, I look away from the reading and ask them not to tell me what I weigh.

ShadowCipher · 13/11/2023 18:56

the other week, then every few months, im currently at 15 stone 3/4

JustKen · 13/11/2023 18:57

Not often now. My mum was hyper-critical of my size as a teenager. I have never let my daughter weigh herself. My scales are well-hidden where she can't find them. I don't want her to get obsessed like I was at her age. If my clothes are tight, I weigh myself then I make an effort to lose weight.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/11/2023 19:00

I weighed myself daily, sometimes multiple times a day, until I started HRT last summer. I gained a stone in about a fortnight and it made me really mentally unwell knowing my eating habits hadn’t changed, so I got rid of the scales. I do measure my waist/thighs/hips every month or so still though.

bellac11 · 13/11/2023 19:01

Ive had weight loss surgery so am still in the losing stages. I weigh myself every 4-6 weeks, you get a lot of stalling and no loss and people can get obsessed so I put the scales away

However once I get to my target weight or when it looks like I wont lose anymore, I will daily weigh as it gives a good indication over time of whether there is any movement in one direction or the other, you can get apps which predict based on your fluctations what it will be next week and next month for example.

I will need that to ensure I dont get complacent and the weight piles back on again.

Rocket1982 · 13/11/2023 19:02

almost never. I know what I weigh from
being weighed at the doctors.

lljkk · 13/11/2023 19:05

Had an ED in past so... almost never.

NoraLuka · 13/11/2023 19:06

Every week or so, but sometimes I forget for a while. I’m not obsessed with the scales or anything but I WFH and could snack all day if I wanted to (and did in fact go through a phase of doing this) and I need to keep track.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 13/11/2023 19:06

Every day. It's the only way I can manage my weight.

Lovemusic82 · 13/11/2023 19:06

I don’t. If my clothes fit then all is good.

MissCalamity · 13/11/2023 19:07

A couple of times a week. I have lost about 2 and a half stone since April, initially following slimming world.

I stopped going in August and I am not as strict on myself and have upped the exercise since then.
The scales are still being kind to me 😀

Kwasi · 13/11/2023 19:15

Daily. Always have done. I am fairly short, which means 4lb is an extra inch around the vitals. Half a stone takes me up an entire dress size.
