How often do you weigh yourself?

I should do it once a week with being on a weight loss programme but I have not done it since maybe summer and have found it scary and liberating at the same time in terms of not getting ‘obsessed’ by the number on scales.

I don’t anymore. I go by how my clothes feel.

My too.

MegaClutterSlut · 13/11/2023 10:20

Never, I don't need that kind of negativity in my life 😂

TheresaCrowd · 13/11/2023 10:22

A couple of times a week I suppose, the scales are right there in front of the bath so I just hop on.

Never had any weight problems though.

But how your clothes fit is a better indicator of your body fat percentage, which is what we should be interested from a health (and aesthetic) point of view, than weight which has many unrelated and unhelpful variables.

The usual 'weigh yourself once a week' advice only gives a very general guide to whether or not you've lost fat in the preceding week as the variation due to body composition, hydration level and what's going on in your digestive system will often cause a bigger change in weight.

That's interesting, I hadn't thought of that, thank you.

memyselfi · 13/11/2023 14:30

Every morning for the last 3 years or so.
If my scales broke they'd be replaced immediately.
If I put a few pounds on it's easier to nip it in the bud than wait until it's a stone.

IncompleteSenten · 13/11/2023 14:33

Twice a day, sometimes 3 times. It's becoming an obsession.

I am extremely fat and currently dieting. Whether I eat or not depends on what the scales say.

megletthesecond · 13/11/2023 14:39

Once a month or so. But I'm quite good at regulating my food and exercise so it never really changes.

VocalFryUp · 13/11/2023 14:43

Hardly ever. The last time was because I was asked height and weight on a form for a study I was taking part in, about 5 years ago.

I’m fit and health so weighing myself
seems pointless. My mum was obsessed with weight, she weighed herself every day when I was a child and wouldn’t eat that day if she weighed ‘too much’. I found it horrible so I’d hate for my kids to feel that way.

PastorCarrBonarra · 13/11/2023 15:00

My weight gain “crept up on me” and I then had to work hard to lose it. So, I now weigh weekly just to keep an eye on things.

bakewellbride · 13/11/2023 15:09

Twice a week. I'm at my perfect weight and want to stay that way!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/11/2023 15:15

Weekly

Lovelyautumncolours · 13/11/2023 15:15

I stopped weighing myself when I cut down massively on alcohol as I was eating more sugary snacks and I didn't want any weight gain to be an excuse to drink more and give up.

I now go by my jeans instead and find it liberating not to have my mood dictated whether a number has gone up or down on the scales.

Riverstep · 13/11/2023 15:30

When I go to the gps for my routine bp check they sometimes check my weight. Never besides that.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 13/11/2023 15:31

Never, I don't own scales.

OSU · 13/11/2023 15:32

I got rid of my scales and put on 8 kilos and kept being surprised by my clothes not fitting. I now have scales again and weigh myself every morning.

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 13/11/2023 15:52

I prefer to weigh myself once a week on a Sunday morning but I now need to weigh myself every other day for my PT programme. I also need upload (bikini) pictures once a month to check my progress which is far worse to look at than the numbers on the scales!

Chicheguevara · 13/11/2023 15:52

Every 4 weeks, on a Tuesday morning. I follow the body coach plan and I measure everywhere too. Then whatever goes on with the scales numbers, I go with the more accurate tape measure.

BigBoysDontCry · 13/11/2023 15:55

Weekly at the moment as I am trying to gain weight and I need to make sure I'm not losing it. Every pound counts so I can't rely on how clothes feel.

When not in this situation I'd weigh randomly when I remembered, probably monthly or less.

CandidFruit · 13/11/2023 16:04

I think my scales are broken, the numbers only go up! 😉

Westfacing · 13/11/2023 16:06

Every morning - it's just a part of my daily routine

Jewelspun · 13/11/2023 16:08

I don't weigh myself anymore. I remember doing so as a a young woman but I've never been overweight so have no need to weigh myself, especially now I'm older, I stay at the same size.

Leo227 · 13/11/2023 16:10

weekly so I can keep it under control before it's more than a couple of lbs I need to lose.

honeyfox · 13/11/2023 16:13

Twice a month.

Iamblossom · 13/11/2023 16:13

Hardly ever. I used to alot but it messes with my head and I am sick of my mood being dictated by the numbers on the sad step.

rookiemere · 13/11/2023 16:13

About twice a week.

I managed to lose almost a stone earlier this year through low carbing and cutting out sugar. I've remained fairly rigorous on the no sugar bit ( apart from alcohol) but relaxed slightly on the low carbs, so I want to see what the impact is on my weight and cut back if I need to.

I can't judge by the mirror or by clothes as I don't think I've got a neutral view of how I look.
