How often do you weigh yourself?

I should do it once a week with being on a weight loss programme but I have not done it since maybe summer and have found it scary and liberating at the same time in terms of not getting ‘obsessed’ by the number on scales.

I don’t anymore. I go by how my clothes feel.

Pinkitydrinkity0 · 13/11/2023 08:20

Very rarely - maybe once every 2/3 months. For a long time I weighed myself daily. Sometimes more than once a day! So it’s nice not to be in that place anymore ☺️

Houseplanter · 13/11/2023 08:21

Weighing myself daily is the only way to keep my weight under control. If I don't weigh I put weight on. I need to see the damage I'm doing to myself.

Never, we threw the scales out a couple of years ago.

Girlintheframe · 13/11/2023 08:24

Daily because I've got a fat loss goal and seeing as weight fluctuate daily it helps me work out my weekly average and if im loosing body fat.

Wendyspotatopeeler · 13/11/2023 08:25

Every day, I'm on a weight loss plan and like to track progress.

CluelessPadme · 13/11/2023 08:25

Every morning. Like the pp it means I know exactly where I’m at (trying to lose at the moments).

I know it fluctuates and I can see that more clearly - I have Aria scales which give you a graph, weekly average, previous months and so on, which is much more accurate a view than a one-off weight which could be a light day or a heavy day!

CalistoNoSolo · 13/11/2023 09:00

Never. I can see i need to lose a few pounds every time I look in the mirror.

AgentProvocateur · 13/11/2023 09:01

I don’t have scales, so I only weigh myself if I see scales at a friend’s house or in hotel.

shivawn · 13/11/2023 09:02

Maybe once a year. Like if I was using a friend's bathroom and saw weighing scales in the corner I'd jump on for a look but it's just on a whim and I can never really remember what my last weight was anyway.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 13/11/2023 09:06

Every time I use the bathroom.

DGPP · 13/11/2023 09:07

Daily because otherwise I just get fatter. I need to know the numbers to guide my tendency to overeat.
I wish I didn’t

Onethingatatime23 · 13/11/2023 09:09

Once a week as I am losing weight at the moment.

Razorcroft · 13/11/2023 09:10

About twice a week

its a data point. It’s a number. It’s nothing BAD.

I now acknowledge fluctuations as part and parcel of existing- I used to be obese and scared of scales, and any minor increase would set me off

i think of it like checking blood pressure, it’s good to keep an eye on things

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 13/11/2023 09:06

Every time I use the bathroom.

Me too.

i have a fair few issues around my weight though.

Toddler101 · 13/11/2023 09:12

My clothes are my scales - they either fit of they don't.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 13/11/2023 09:13

Daily. Following Noom.

User63847439572 · 13/11/2023 09:14

Never now
if it’s ‘good news’ I either get a buzz and try to take it too far or think I’ve ‘got away with it’ and have less control over my eating.
if it’s ‘bad news’ I berate myself and get into a negative spiral.
but I’ve got a history of yo-yo dieting and binge eating so might not be the same for everyone.

feels good not doing it though and focusing on how I feel more than what the scales say.

Dacadactyl · 13/11/2023 09:16

I weigh myself when I think I mightve put a few pounds on and then aim to get down to what weight I want to be again.

In winter I am happy to be half a stone heavier than in summer.

BoohooWoohoo · 13/11/2023 09:17

Daily.
I only think about the number for 3 mins or so before and after I weigh myself and can brush off any fluctuations quite easily.

FannyBawz · 13/11/2023 09:19

Once a month, the day after my period has finished and first thing in the morning. It’s the only way I can keep a consistent track

longtompot · 13/11/2023 09:52

Most mornings assuming I've not eaten breakfast. I've tried judging by how my clothes feel but they lie and tell me they are loose when I've gained.

But how your clothes fit is a better indicator of your body fat percentage, which is what we should be interested from a health (and aesthetic) point of view, than weight which has many unrelated and unhelpful variables.

The usual 'weigh yourself once a week' advice only gives a very general guide to whether or not you've lost fat in the preceding week as the variation due to body composition, hydration level and what's going on in your digestive system will often cause a bigger change in weight.

Sleeplessinseattle234 · 13/11/2023 10:14

Daily. Currently loosing weight. But will even after I have finished loosing weight. Done this too many times and will
never now not stand on them. It’s too hard to keep trying to loose weight and I don’t want to have to do it again. So if I can keep track of my weight better and have accountability to what I eat then so be it.

ifonly4 · 13/11/2023 10:20

Used to be every few months. However, I lost weight last year and it'd be easy to slip into old ways, so weighing myself about four times a week helps keep things in check, ie I try and make healthier or better choices which has to be a good thing.
