How often do you weigh yourself?

I should do it once a week with being on a weight loss programme but I have not done it since maybe summer and have found it scary and liberating at the same time in terms of not getting ‘obsessed’ by the number on scales.

Several times a week. Never used to, but having been very fit and lean in my 20s the weight crept on gradually over 20 years. In the last few years it's dropped off, not deliberately at first, but as a result of lifestyle change. I'm now back to weighing what I did 25 years ago, and feel so much better for it. Not dieting, but determined not to let weight gain creep up on me again.

bonkersAlice · 13/11/2023 16:15

Weekly.

TheKnittedCharacter · 13/11/2023 16:16

Every single morning if I am at home.

I get up, go to the loo and then jump on the scales. I have done this my whole adult life.

Daily - track a weekly average although the battery is bust & I need to get a new one.

SirChenjins · 13/11/2023 16:19

Never - if my trousers get tight or I look like I’m putting on weight I cut back a bit but otherwise I’ve no interest in my weight.

astarsheis · 13/11/2023 16:21

More or less every day. I don't need to loose weight but if I go more than 1kg over, I check on what i've been eating and cut back a bit on my portion sizes and wine. I'm slim and I like to keep it that way.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 13/11/2023 16:22

Two-three times a week. I'm a healthy weight and want to make I stay that way.

AgeGapBbe · 13/11/2023 16:22

Every day at the moment, I’m actively trying to lose weight at the moment and I’m finding it really helps to track it every morning when I first get up.

LegendsBeyond · 13/11/2023 16:23

Weekly. It helps me keep an eye on things. I tend to wear quite baggy clothes so couldn’t really judge my weight on how they feel.

Tonia16 · 13/11/2023 16:25

Not often, I go by how my clothes fit

Crooklodge · 13/11/2023 16:26

I bought dh some smart scales. Weighed myself every time I had a bath, but now I don't weigh myself often as I've put on 1/2 stone and look and feel utter shit.

JosieRay · 13/11/2023 16:29

Every morning first thing. I lost 1.5 stone this year and after a lifetime of yo yo dieting I’m determined to maintain for the first time.

Smurfmurf · 13/11/2023 16:33

Every day. My weight fluctuates massively so I take an average weight. Once a week would likely result in me doing stupid things with calories.

WhatAreYouAllAbout · 13/11/2023 16:41

I've been through so many different "relationships" with weighing myself over the years from never doing it, to doing it a lot. I've worked hard to heal my relationship with food and exercise over the past 8 or 9 years.

I've found a place of neutrality now. I weigh everyday, first thing and plot the weight on my iPhone health app. It makes a graph which shows the trend over time.

I've found this a lot healthier mentally than weighing less often. I now can see the natural variations over the month or when I've had a salty meal or a particularly hard work out.

It's taken the emotion out of the number for me, which might sound a bit counterintuitive. If it spikes up, I know it'll spike down again.

I also weigh in kg rather than stones/pounds which for some reason is much less "triggering" for negative thoughts about my weight.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/11/2023 16:41

Never.

Cookiedough123 · 13/11/2023 16:44

Currently every day and in the past when I’ve been actively trying to lose weight every day! When I stop I put weight on. I’ve now lost over 2st with another 2 to go at least and I am definitely going to weigh everyday forever as it keeps me on track!

Dontcallmescarface · 13/11/2023 16:45

Never, unless it's at the GP surgery.

LoobyDop · 13/11/2023 16:46

Never, I go off tightness of jeans.

Laurdo · 13/11/2023 16:47

You should weigh daily, first thing after using the toilet, then work out the average weight across the week.

Neverendingstory2 · 13/11/2023 16:49

Only when I go to the doctor. Otherwise I go by how my clothes fit. I used to be obsessed with the scale but finally threw it away. It wasn't healthy.

Weighing myself daily is the only way to keep my weight under control. If I don't weigh I put weight on. I need to see the damage I'm doing to myself.

I'm exactly like this. The times in my life where I decided I didn't want to be ruled by the scales, I piled weight on

trickyex · 13/11/2023 16:55

Twice a day. Had anorexia and havent managed to break the habit.

Devilsmommy · 13/11/2023 16:57

At least once a week because since having my DS I've been losing weight without trying. Starting to worry it's a symptom of something 🥺

Are you accounting for water retention when your taking note of your weight? I'm recovering from an ED and the clinic really stressed that there was no point weighing myself daily as my weight will fluctuate depending on time of the month and water retention ect

Realistically you cant put or lose weight overnight like that, it's literally just water weight

GodDammitCecil · 13/11/2023 17:03

I haven’t weighed myself since before COVID, and have put on about 10 kilos.

Pre-COVID, I weighed myself if not daily, then virtually every day. I was happy with my weight.

COVID came, and WFH I was eating so much more than normal. I stopped weighing myself as I didn’t want to see the damage.

It is very depressing and I am finally in the mindset to do something about it.

I will be going back to daily weighing - I have to, if I want to keep my weight in check.

I wish I was one of those people who didn’t need to, but I’m not and I have to be realistic about it. I put weight on easily and peri-meno is making it harder and harder to lose weight.
