If you don't like tattoos

Can you say why?

I'm fed up of people who think those with tattoos are rough arsed bikers, thick or common.

OP posts:

I just can't see the logic in paying someone to repeatedly stab you with a needle to embed ink into your skin just because you think it looks pretty.
Also I've seen very few that are actually well done. Artists are rare, tattooists are ten a penny

Brexile · 12/11/2023 18:01

Tattoos are ugly and grim.

suitsmetoo · 12/11/2023 18:05

Think they're awful and it's ironic that it's generally the lowest paid people who have them and yet they're incredibly expensive. What a waste of money!

Also think they're very ageing - lots of 45yr olds knocking around our local swimming pool with 'stars' around their belly buttons for eg! Or worse, the good old 'tramp stamp' . Yet to see one that was nice.

David Beckham is a just one great example of a good looking guy who's been ruining by tattoos.

Agree that MOST people look nicer without tattoos. The worst ones are the stars on someone’s neck lol.

My dd has a lovely sprig of lavender "water coloured" on the inside of her forearm. It's subtle and beautiful and I really like it. Still wish it wasn't there though!

if I'd been asked to choose something as insignificant as a necklace I had to wear every day for the rest of my life, I know I wouldn't always be happy with the decision I'd made, however appealing it seemed to me at the time.

But loads of people do that with a wedding or engagement ring all the time and the assumption at least is "until death"

Most wedding rings are plain bands with minimal if any decoration, so don't date. By custom, an engagement ring is to be worn for the duration of the engagement and after that is optional so it dating doesn't really matter, but you could always get the stone reset if it really bothered you.

I don't have a bike, maybe you should buy me one?

Lots of necklaces are plain and don't date either?

MissBattleaxe · 12/11/2023 18:16

I think they look like graffiti. I keep my opinions to myself day to day but the OP asked why people don't like them and that's my answer. They are not aesthetically pleasing to my eye but it's none of my business if people enjoy getting them. I choose not to.

The point is really that any jewellery can be taken off if you go off it, unlike a tattoo!

whatchagonnado · 12/11/2023 18:17

I met a lovely man at a gig last night. Covered in tattoos and what some posters on here might call rough or common (if you judge simply by appearance). He told about all the money he'd raised for charity doing ultra 100k walks, how he worked on that railways, so was a steward at the train crossings for others doing ultra walks and to give support and encouragement etc. to others. I'm impressed by the quality of the human being, with or without tats. He's a top bloke.
I would never get one myself as I quite like my skin as it is.

Angrymum22 · 12/11/2023 18:18

I think it’s the random nature of tattoos that I don’t like. A single tattoo on a shoulder that has some significance is fine but lots of unrelated doodles down an arm are just ugly. I suppose they are just hard on the eye.
The best tattoo I’ve seen (actually two tattoos) were on a patient. He had them done to cover big scars. He had a scar about 6 inches long across the back of his head. He had a zip tattooed over it. His other tattoo was flames covering up a burn on his arm. They are really cool and just looked right.
The worst one I’ve seen was a large burlesque version of a woman on her own calf. It was huge and very well done so you could tell it was her - but why have your own image on your calf.
The funniest tattoo I’ve seen was one on the inside of a blokes lower lip. He’d self tattooed the initials of his favourite football club in black ink.
I’m not a fan but I do admire the ability of some tattoo artists. Some tattoos are truly works of art.
I don’t have any tattoos although I do have three small dots tattooed on my chest as locating points for radiotherapy. I know some people have them removed or covered with bigger tattoos but they are so small you wouldn’t spot them.

Why does it matter why people don't like tattoos? Presumably you have tattoos hence the thread so why I or others don't like them makes zero difference?

I'm sure you judge people about other things and make snap decisions based upon people so ignore those who make comments to you and just get on with your day.

Exactly this

ILoveCreamCrackersMe · 12/11/2023 18:19

Putting aside tattooed nipples to cover scaring and the likes etc...

I've never seen a single tattoo that I've ever thought improved what was already there.

Do tattoed people care? Nope, nor would I tell them directly.

ShoesoftheWorld · 12/11/2023 18:22

Ink in/on skin makes me feel ill. (Tbf I feel the same about people drawing/writing on their hands/arms and actually even about face paints).

ChickenBhunaandChips · 12/11/2023 18:23

Because half the time they’re just really badly done.

Unless you’ve paid a fortune and really researched your tattoo artist then most of the time they look like a doodle or a splodge of green.

There is a vast difference between an amazing well done tattoo and something done in your local tattoo shop.

Lilibert456 · 12/11/2023 18:25

Why a woman would want to deface herself with tattoos is beyond me. They look common.

twattydogshavetwattypeople · 12/11/2023 18:31

I'm a fan of the normal human body and find bodies that have been significantly altered, for example with tattoos or a trout pout or massive breast enhancement, a bit disturbing.

Yes I know, I already made that point

LearnFromMyMistakes · 12/11/2023 18:39

I tend to think they do the exact opposite of what is intended.
So many people now are very heavily tattooed it's all so same some, not in the least unique.
I'm so glad l don't have any or feel the need for any, and my sons are the same.
I heard more people are trying to get them removed, than actually getting them now.

AlphaB3tty · 12/11/2023 18:40

I have nearly 30 tattoos.
I am not common.
I am not a rough arsed biker.
They don't stop me doing my job. I work in finance.
It's personal choice.

trippytriangles · 12/11/2023 18:41

I don't like them I think it looks cheap, no one in my family has them.
I have all brothers and they've all said what on earth possess a woman to do that to herself and how unattractive it looks especially poking out of a nice dress.

317818we · 12/11/2023 18:43

Lots of reasons

-they are barbaric and uncivilised - it is permenantly marking yourself in the same way tribal societies put a plate through their lip or a bone through their nose.
-they look ugly
-they look more ugly the older they get - colour loses vibrancy and skin wrinkles.
-shows bad judgment to get ones that are visible because you know, rightly or wrongly from the tattoed persons perspective, people will judge you and choosing to have one visible when clothed (neck, face, wrists , hands, ankles feet) to me indicates poor decision making especially in professions.
-tattoo content often also shows bad judgment - name of a partner that later has to be lasered off, wrongly spelled foreign words

-lots of them look really messy - cf David Beckham young fit untattoed with later stage older very very tattooed. It's really sad to see someone do that to their body.
-personally I find them actively repellent as i find them unpleasant to look at.
-they are most prevelant amongst working classes and lower middle classes so have a strong association with lower social status.
-I HATE THEM
