Which films have stunning soundtracks

I was catching up on The Hunger Games this weekend (new film next week!) but as I was also crocheting (gotta keep the hands busy!) wasn’t watching but just listening with my headphones and glancing at it now and then. I had always known that HG was visually stunning but I was really amazed that it also has an amazing soundtrack. Not necessarily songs but lots of unique HG sounds- the sound of the knives for example or the tracker jacks, the host etc which make it absolutely unique to HG. Similarly the James Bond music is so uniquely JB that you can identify it in milliseconds.

Which other films have soundtracks that are as strong or stronger than the visuals?

Cold mountain is quite good - fits the film.

Watchmen is a really underrated film and I adore the soundtrack. It's just perfect!

There's another that's on the tip of my tongue but I can't remember. If I do, I'll be back.

I just popped back in to mention Watchmen. Great sound track and a very good film considering how hard the original story was to adapt to the screen.

Roadhouse - Jeff Healey band just brilliant.

Franco Piersanti's introductory music for 'Inspector Montalbano' ( a bit off piste as it's a series but the music is just wonderful. As is this whole series + El Joven Montalbano too btw.)

Another Hans Zimmer theme: Pirates of the Caribbean

TheMurderousGoose · 12/11/2023 21:14

A Hans Zimmer fact I love is that he wrote the theme tune to daytime quiz show Going for Gold.

I can’t believe I forgot about Forrest Gump!!

TheMildManneredMilitant · 13/11/2023 18:28

Michael Nyman fans - he wrote an amazing piece called 'MGV' to mark the opening of a new train line. The 5th movement is so uplifting.

I like some Werner Herzog film (and Popol Vuh who provided soundtracks for several films e.g. Nosferatu but I don't think these will appeal to many generally) but Richard Thompson's soundtrack to Grizzly Man is stunning.

Richard Thompson - Grizzly Man Session 01

Thompson in the studio with Werner Herzog working on the polemical documentary 'Grizzly Man'. Go & buy the CD/DVD if you want more..It's a must have!
