Which films have stunning soundtracks

I was catching up on The Hunger Games this weekend (new film next week!) but as I was also crocheting (gotta keep the hands busy!) wasn’t watching but just listening with my headphones and glancing at it now and then. I had always known that HG was visually stunning but I was really amazed that it also has an amazing soundtrack. Not necessarily songs but lots of unique HG sounds- the sound of the knives for example or the tracker jacks, the host etc which make it absolutely unique to HG. Similarly the James Bond music is so uniquely JB that you can identify it in milliseconds.

Which other films have soundtracks that are as strong or stronger than the visuals?

I know love actually is a very marmite movie on mumsnet but the soundtrack is fantastic

Yes! The Glasgow theme always makes me feel tearful. His work on Romeo + Juliet was excellent too

Jean de Florette has a great soundtrack

"The Mission", music by Ennio Morricone.

All the Spaghetti westerns. That man knew how to write a music score.

Pulp Fiction!

Oh yes!

"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."
Ennio Moricone insisted on seeing the film, then writing the score, which wasn't the done thing at the time.

"Eat the Rich," it's a shame the film wasn't put onto video, as it has been lost.

BorgQueen · 12/11/2023 12:38

Last of the Mohicans.
Highlander, the Queen soundtrack matches the film perfectly.

Not Film but Game of Thrones has some of the best music I’ve ever heard. Ramin Djwadi is a genius.

Also, for gaming, Skyrim has an exquisite soundtrack.

The rock with Sean Connery and nic cage

AramintaLee · 12/11/2023 12:41

Anything by James Horner... Field of Dreams, Legends of the Fall, Brave heart, Titanic.

I was gutted when he died so young and that we wouldn't hear any more beautiful music from him.

Metal gear solid series too.

Bobbotgegrinch · 12/11/2023 12:43

Going with OPs post about sound effects rather than music, it's got to be Star Wars.

The sounds of the lightsabers, blasters, tie fighters flying past etc. all have the films a really unique soundscape, which I think contributed hugely to the success of the films.

LadyHag · 12/11/2023 12:43

Clint Mansell esp Moon soundtrack and the one from a Black Mirror episode.

Craig Armstrong re Far From the Madding Crowd

Super 8 soundtrack is beautiful too.
