I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

I I feel your pain. I can’t imagine turning up at the gym ( you do go to one, don’t you) in a Mercedes A class, the shame.
If anyone takes the piss ( I’m sure they will at the class of gym you go to) tell them it’s a curtesy car.

I've got a basic Peugeot and turn up to the gym in it 🤣

GrazingSheep · 11/11/2023 14:33

@Hmindr68
Will a cooling off period apply if the op bought the car in person? I see previous reports say it applies to car finance but googling gives this info (from carfinance.Co.uk)
It’s important to remember that ending your finance agreement doesn’t automatically mean you’ve also pulled out of your contract to buy the car. In that case, you’ll need to find another source of funds to purchase the vehicle.

She may well live on a council estate, too. Nothing to be ashamed of..

I'm very proud of where I come from. I just meant the OP probably doesn't want my advice as I'm not, you know, fancy enough for an opinion on her car.

Have a word with yourself

No, I know what you meant and I agree! You're definitely not fancy enough 😉

bellamountain · 11/11/2023 14:38

I think it's because a lot of 18 year olds do drive them, especially because they get them on finance whilst living at home. They are incredibly common round here. Audi, BMW and Mercedes hatches have taking place of the Corsas and Fiestas in recent years..... it's no wonder Ford have discontinued the Fiesta (which is a shame because it's a great car). I'd probably use the cooling off period OP, maybe look at a Ford Puma if you want to be higher up? Or a C class 3 series instead?

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

😂😂😂Flowers

Queucumber · 11/11/2023 14:42

I know someone who bought an A class because the BMW estate was too difficult to park on the school run. It was driven for 15 minutes a day, term time only.

🤣🤣🤣 Welcome to Mumsnet, Verruca Salt.

Just return it. If you can’t, I’m sure it’ll grow on you. It sounds lovely (and nothing like my first banger - which I absolutely loved).

DeathbyJedi · 11/11/2023 14:43

A merc? Hahahahahahahahahhahaahah ok

DomingoinLittleOakley · 11/11/2023 14:44

Blimey! Don't tell my daughter, I only bought her a 14 year-old Fiat 500 with extremely dodgy electrics. If she she sees this she's going to be asking why she didn't get a Merc like all the other 18 year-olds.

FarmGirl78 · 11/11/2023 14:48

OhNoForever · 11/11/2023 14:27

You bought it on finance? Now that's tacky.

Bingo!! They penny didn't drop for me and I'm so glad you pointed it out. 🤣🤣 Champagne lifestyle with lemonade pockets!!

Those clapped out chugging 15yr old corsas that most people had for their first cars were usually bought in cash.

Coldbrewnumber2 · 11/11/2023 14:49

You need to get a grip ffs

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2023 14:51

A merc as a first car? Yeah, nah.

Why on earth didn't you do research into what you actually wanted before you went to buy it? Also, I realise this makes me a bit odd but I wouldn't touch a premium mark car with a barge pole - nothing screams 'burgle me' like a house with fancy cars outside. Hence why I had a Ford Focus for 10 years and now have a similarly non-aspirational car!

FarmGirl78 · 11/11/2023 14:52

Did you miss my post saying I was driving a Kia?

Yeah, you were driving it by accident - literally! You didn't choose it and had no say in the matter.

Awwww are your diamond shoes too tight as well?

lol

Nippi · 11/11/2023 14:58

As you have this new job how long did it take you to save up to buy this car?
Or have you borrowed a ridiculous amount of money for a status car?

housethatbuiltme · 11/11/2023 15:00

Take it back OP.

I also can't stand to be low to the ground either, one its not good for my disability and two having been in a serious crash I too prefer height for safety... most people mocking that have not been the only person in the family to walk away from a world shattering crash.

I would also ditch the Audi/Merc/Porche so on fancy name cars, you pay a premium for not much and they will always be more costly to insure/fix.

Get the Kia if you liked that.

Mojodojocasahaus · 11/11/2023 15:00

It must be hard to park a Mercedes under a bridge 🤷‍♀️

ZenNudist · 11/11/2023 15:03

Nil points

Shade17 · 11/11/2023 15:03

Take it back OP.

Not sure why you and others think she can return it? Unless it was a distance sale, which it doesn’t sound like it was?

I’m sure they’ll be happy to buy it back at trade price, but that’s gonna be an expensive lesson.
