I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

Oh your poor thing.

Can you drive around in a mask or something? So nobody can recognise you?
Maybe a clown nose to go with your obvious clown car?

fuffa · 11/11/2023 14:03

I've just googled it, I wouldn't want to drive that either. It's not very exciting.

WinterWaffle · 11/11/2023 14:04

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 11/11/2023 14:07

OP, did you like it before your DH said what he said?

ThePoshUns · 11/11/2023 14:08

I couldn't cope driving around in a basic Mercedes, how awful for you

Gazelda · 11/11/2023 14:09

If you want to be higher up, why don't you trade it in for a VW Camper van. They're really cool. Far less embarrassing than a merc.

Hayliebells · 11/11/2023 14:09

I'm driving a 15 year old Kia, and it's never broken down. If a 10 year old Audi needs binning because it's broken down twice, maybe luxury car brands are a false economy? But if you're the type to be embarrassed by a car, I suspect you wouldn't be seen dead in a Kia.

Hereforthebunfights · 11/11/2023 14:09

🤣 we have never even been able to afford a new car 🤣

It has also never occurred to me to be embarrassed by something that is just to get you to where you want to he

RedorangeyellowBLACK · 11/11/2023 14:11

I am getting fed up to the back teeth with these stealth threads which are either crappy wind ups or from the teeny percentage of the population who have no idea how the other 99% of us actually struggle live every day. MN never used to be full of such drivel.

OP, just go back to say you’ve made a mistake and see what else you fancy.

Alternatively, you could swap with either my dog fart infused, 12 year old Mini or my 17 year old ds’s 15 year old Fiesta. We were going to gift him a brand new Jag F Pace but the Fiesta just caught our eye with its different coloured wing and deep zig zag scratch on the boot, it was a beaut.

Gillypie23 · 11/11/2023 14:11

First World problem. Get a fucking grip.

I didn’t even get a car when I passed, I had to car share. My point was I wasn’t sure if it wa something an 18 year old boy would get as opposed to a woman in her late 20s that finally has a job that doesn’t severely underpay me.

It's a car, and out of many people's reach. YABU for coming on here to complain and for being so utterly tone deaf.

If you don't like it, return it. If it's more just a humble brag, give your head a bloody wobble and try and get your head round what basic actually is...

I was fully with you and going to give you the advice from I when I was the exact same situation. But then I read this post. We clearly live in two very different worlds and my advice would obviously be embarrassing, horrid and basic, as the car I didn't like was only a lowly Qashqai which obviously only young underpaid people drive.

You would have flipped your lid at the bit where I told you I bought something cheaper and even more basic instead.

To be fair, I didn't like DH kia. But he drives a VW and I drive a peugeot now. He is currently vetoing me having a pick up truck (which I want, and would actually use for work too)

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 12:55

Jesus, from the reaction here you’d think I said a 2024 Porsche.

Why would it be a wind up? Or me bragging? It’s a common car

To be fair to you, with the exception of Porsche all German cars are common.

Whalewatchers · 11/11/2023 14:16

I have an extended test drive of a Dacia Jogger. 3rd row passengers wanted to throw up and felt claustrophobic. Engine cut out twice while driving despite it being brand new. Road noise was something else. Turbo lag. Fuel economy wasn't great. I was glad to get back in my 9 year old Nissan I can tell you!

DarkDayforMN · 11/11/2023 14:16

Just put a sticker on the back saying “My other car is a Porsche” so you won’t be so embarrassed any more.

PupInAPram · 11/11/2023 14:16

I have a 14 year old Kalos. It takes me places. I don't give a monkeys if someone dings it with a shopping trolley. All good😁

Bendysnap · 11/11/2023 14:17

I’m desperately struggling to think what world you live in where parents buy (expensive and nice) cars like this for their children? Our household income is around £500k pa but our DD will be getting a 10 year old ford focus or similar. The sixth form car park at their large private school is full of …vw golfs and Vauxhall astras!

I think it’s a nice looking upmarket car. But then I obviously don’t spend much money on cars!

That looks brilliant! 😆

OldTinHat · 11/11/2023 14:17

Ha! Try driving some of the cars I've owned in my life!! I currently have a 15yr old Chevvy Aveo.

Get a grip, be bloody grateful and stop whinging!

Dibblydoodahdah · 11/11/2023 14:19

OP I have a Mercedes GLE and we are purchasing an A class as our second car. I have sat in it and it’s not a shit car. I think they are really nice. They are very expensive now which may mean it seems like rubbish value to you but all Mercedes have gone up dramatically in price. I purchased a brand new GLC in 2016 for £37k. To buy a new GLC today would cost me £57k. For basically the same car!!! It’s had a slight refresh in design but nothing drastic.

I was also horrified last year when I had a Corsa hire car for a short time and looked up the price that a brand new one would cost to buy. £17k for a basic model!

Yoppole2 · 11/11/2023 14:20

@EnolaJ My Mercedes A class has gorgeous interior and is a dream to drive. Also it’s great in the snow and ice as well .
A Mercedes is definitely not basic - maybe the A class is popular but it’s still a good quality car.

Get a fucking grip! Jesus I thought this was going to be a 20 year old lada or something!!

Take it back if you’re not happy!

Nothing wrong with Ladas I'll have you know. The stone bridge took a beating but I was still able to drive home, albeit only using right turns. Took us a while...😎
