I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

My daughter and her partner have an A class - nice car. They bought it after they had my Dad's old Corsa.

My other daughter - we did give them a couple of cars. My old 12 year old Scenic. When that destroyed itself our 10 year old Picasso - still going strong.

Who can afford to give their children a new A class?

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 11/11/2023 16:27

Should have said, my parents had one like the silver one and I drove it once and it was not a good car! 😂
Feels even smaller than it looks and everything felt cheap inside - not at all what I think of when I hear "Mercedes"

You’d hate my car which is a 15 year polo but passed its mot recently and gets me from a-b! Ok I am a bit embarrassed of it but I barely drive so may as well wait til it conks out on me.
I like A class Mercs in general - def not a ca to be embarrassed about.

I join you in driving an old Polo, (it's 16 years old in fact) and has never let me down. Passes it's MOT every year quite easily, and if it doesn't, nothing costs too much to replace. Plenty of 2nd hand parts on eBay.
Volkswagen Love. ❤️

Wanky parents from Didsbury

Wow! So entitled. Just return your car and your diamond shoes :)

Cost of living crisis and OP is quite rightfully being mocked for complaining about a 'basic' 30k car.
Maybe she can go and moan and Conservative party conference next time. Im sure Rishi will give her the ear she needs.

Oh give over. “I’m struggling, so join me”

people have different circumstances and different standards of living. Just because some people are struggling doesn’t mean nobody is allowed to complain about their lives if they dare to not be crying poverty and scraping together the money for a loaf.

this is OPs life, granted that may look different to yours but she’s entitled to help and advice on here just like everyone else.

Repurposing · 11/11/2023 16:36

Maybe one day the OP will look back on this post and laugh/cringe, but right now, she needs the status a certain car brings to feel good about herself. We live in a society where status is very much about the car you drive, the clothes you wear, the house you live in etc, and it's hard not to get swept up in that, unless your self-esteem is rock solid, and you don't need status symbols to bolster it.

Bendysnap · 11/11/2023 16:37

Ahhh, I get it now, the OP and the sixth formers are buying them on finance. Now that’s “basic” around where I live … (and explains why all the rich families sixth formers are driving old cars…)

GentlemanJay · 11/11/2023 16:39

I'm sat in a Mercedes A Class as I write this.

This thread is a piss take.

TeslaTwat · 11/11/2023 16:40

You need to buy a pumpkin spice latte and some uggs. Please tell me it's white?!

I know what you mean! There's a meme with lads in an airport after a holiday and it says something like "white a class on finance everywhere"

They're nice cars! Take it back if you must but what will you get instead?! Ignore Mumsnet!

Redebs · 11/11/2023 16:40

I insured my car the other week.
It's worth just slightly more than the premium😁

TeslaTwat · 11/11/2023 16:40

I'm genuinely considering an a class saloon - mostly because of the ambient lighting pack!

Spangers · 11/11/2023 16:45

Gosh, I was such a basic bitch that I had to pay for my own driving lessons and buy my brother’s scruffy old Ford off him, the horror!

Luckily I don’t need to impress my instahun friends, maybe try swapping it for a white Evoque per pp’s suggestion.

AMG Line. Best car I've ever had. Automatic. I'd never drive a manual again. It's as smooth as silk.

eurochick · 11/11/2023 16:52

Having read this thread I am now getting why everyone young around here seems to be driving a high spec brand new car. It's bonkers.

Perhaps you could exchange it for a grip?

Or a sense of proportion.

Is it the one with engine out of a Renault van?

PosteriorPosterity · 11/11/2023 17:01

If it’s pre 2005, you have a point.

Otherwise, grow up.

Tortiemiaw · 11/11/2023 17:01

Mines 2001 and I bloody love it. I'd never moan about a car. They serve a purpose and that's it.

My AMG didn’t have ambient lighting as standard, you had to buy the extension pack apparently.

Agree with the automatic and smooth as silk comment.

That would be the 1.6 diesel I believe, the 2 ltr AMG is a merc engine but nice not so subtle dig.
