I hate my new car, I feel sick

It’s my fault, I was easily talked into it by the sales person.

It’s such a basic car and I’m embarrassed by it. It’s expensive and I want to cry

Oh behave! I was imagining something like a Hyundai i10, I had one, now that was basic. Take it back within the cooling off or sell it. Or if you have to put up with it due to a contract it’ll only be for a few years, it’ll be fine.

NettleTea · 11/11/2023 15:51

wow OP, I have a 2001 Nissan Micra and a kid in private school. Neither of us GAF when we roll up to the gates. Before that I had an 2002 L200 covered in mud with the side mirror hanging off, and the headmaster told me he was pleased to see a car that was obviously used for what its purpose was......

Applebeard · 11/11/2023 15:51

@Hippodogamus

If OP is 'embarrassed' by a Merc, they're probably not going to be charmed by a Skoda badge.

(We're a 2-Skoda family and LOVE them. Great cars.)

Personally I think this is a Daily Mail reported looking for a MuMSnEt OuTRaGE clickbait story.

Kissmystarfish · 11/11/2023 15:53

Even cars have a cooling off period. So you could take it back

NunsKnickers · 11/11/2023 15:54

My parents didn't buy me a Mercedes when I passed my driving test. In fact they didn't buy me a car at all.

I feel really hard done by now.

wannabetraveler · 11/11/2023 13:06

My first car was a Citroen! I loved it!!

I had a Citroen AX I think. Wasn’t even a 1 litre and it had the number plate MUF

i LOVED seeing people laugh at the traffic lights. I truly didn’t give a shit and I’d rather someone laugh than sneer. I loved that car!

my first car however was a sierra

GrazingSheep · 11/11/2023 15:58

@Kissmystarfish

They don’t. Unless faulty.

Mirabai · 11/11/2023 16:03

I don’t disagree with OP that Mercedes sit very low. I’d rather have a small 4x4 due to the extra height.

LilyThePinksDealer · 11/11/2023 16:04

you're embarrassed to own and drive a Mercedes bloody hell. I'd be embarrassed being embarrassed if I was you

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 16:05

OhNoForever · 11/11/2023 14:27

You bought it on finance? Now that's tacky.

Are you not able to read? Where have I said anywhere I got a car on finance?

I spoke about a hypothetical situation. In which for a £90K car no I don’t have that much cash to drop on something that’s going to depreciate. When I was browsing online I looked at how much it would be with my deposit and that was the figure.

You’d hate my car which is a 15 year polo but passed its mot recently and gets me from a-b! Ok I am a bit embarrassed of it but I barely drive so may as well wait til it conks out on me.
I like A class Mercs in general - def not a ca to be embarrassed about.

BakewellGin1 · 11/11/2023 16:07

What an entitled a*sehole 😂

So you bought a 30k car for cash and are complaining about it being shit and having been done over by the car salesman.

Omg that's even funnier!!!!

You referred somewhere - CBA looking for it - to a particular car which would have cost you £800 a month?

Though WTAF is buying a car on finance "tacky"??? Is a mortgage tacky too then?!

I don’t disagree with OP that Mercedes sit very low. I’d rather have a small 4x4 due to the extra height.

Most people used to driver normal saloons and hatchbacks. Those of us who drove scruffy old Land Rovers and vans were happy that we had a better driving position, could see the road ahead of us better and basically just enjoyed driving more.

Now everyone wants a better driving position and view and inevitably the people in 'normal' cars feel that they can't see properly, so they all want a better driving position too.

We'll all end up driving on stilts so that we can see the tw*t holding us up three cars in front at the traffic lights.

supersonicginandtonic · 11/11/2023 16:11

My first car was a £400 Vauxhall nova 😂

ohdamnitjanet · 11/11/2023 16:13

getinthedust · 11/11/2023 12:44

It’s a Mercedes A Class and I just think it’s basic and a car a parent would buy a child who just passed their test.

Dear God, I don’t know one parent who would buy a Mercedes for a kid who had just passed their test. Bloody lucky if they are given an old Fiesta quite honestly. In fact most young people I know buy their own bloody cars.

TopOfTheCliff · 11/11/2023 16:15

@supersonicginandtonic i had a posh one, Vauxhall Viva costing £700 which I paid for myself at 19. But the starter motor was faulty and I had to park in facing downhill so I could bump start it. Happy days!

OP has led a sheltered life methinks.

RedToothBrush · 11/11/2023 16:15

In fairness to the OP I just told DH about this thread and said the OP was embarrassed by her car as it was basic and it was the car parents would buy their kid as a first car.

His very first response was a Merc a class. I asked him way he said that. He said that's what people in 'sufficently rich wanky areas' would do and it was a fair guess as a classes are basic and shit!!!!

This has made me laugh even more.

Salesman saw the OP coming a mile off!

TeenLifeMum · 11/11/2023 16:16

I don’t understand, didn’t you test drive it before buying?

our last car was supposed to have cruise control but a few days after getting it home I realised it didn’t. Verbally I’m adamant the salesman said it did. We’ve now had it 9 years and for the next car I plan to have a clear list of must have that I’ll check against before handing over money. I think posters are being harsh because of your comments early on but you’re allowed to be disappointed. I think sometimes high end cars have less tech compared to Kia’s etc. I’ve recently been looking at newer cars and have been surprised how many expensive (to me) cars don’t have rear cameras when all Kia’s and Peugeots do. I’m struggling to choose.

Kissmystarfish · 11/11/2023 15:53

No, they don't. If you buy a car online there is a 14-day cooling-off period, but if you go into a dealership and buy one (which I presume is what happened in OP's case since she says the sales person talked her into it) you can only reject it if it is faulty.

There is a 14-day cooling off period for finance agreements that starts when you sign the agreement or receive a signed copy. However, cancelling that does not cancel the purchase.

KeyWorker · 11/11/2023 16:19

Fuck me… is this a joke?? I thought it was going to be a Ford Ka or Fiat Panda!!

GodblessHookyStreet · 11/11/2023 16:23

I had an merc A class and I absolutely adored mine was not cheap Hmm

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 11/11/2023 16:25

I've only skim read the thread, but both of these are Mercedes A-Class's - I'm wondering if everyone googled and seen the one but OP actually bought the other?!
