No mention of the fact that it was the far right... high on the toxic language of this government and its apologists .... who rampaged through London yesterday, spreading fear and chaos - while hurling projectiles at our police.

Braverman is making a bad situation worse.

Oh man. Attacking antisemites while supporting Islamaphobes?

She has close connections to 4 of the 5 main world religions. She is very clearly biased against the fifth - Islam.

countrygirl99 · 12/11/2023 17:12

I strongly suspect the islamaphones in question are also antisemitic. It's just they hate moslems a teeny bit more than jews and hate missing an excuse for a punch up even more.

cakeorwine · 12/11/2023 18:37

Looks like Braverman wants to ban the marches.

If 800,000 people are prevented from marching - and those are the people who were able to make it to London, that is a slap in the face for democracy.

cakeorwine · 12/11/2023 18:38

I am also not sure how you stop 800,000 people marching.

I suspect that this will have been in the minds of senior police officers. What would be the impact of banning the march on Saturday, particularly after Braverman's intervention. At least by allowing it to go ahead, they could work with the organisers on the route, timings and so on, and the organisers provided marshals.

DuncinToffee · 12/11/2023 18:54

Can we assume that Sunak approved Braverman's tweet?

I was working on the basis that Sunak approved Braverman's newspaper article inciting hatred last week as well, because if he had not he would have sacked her by now.

Same here especially as he has so luke warm regarding the policing yesterday.
Braverman would love banning marches, can hear her now squealing in delight at the thought.

Sunak is now getting to the point where if he doesn't sack Braverman he will look incredibly weak. As things stand, she clearly feels she can get away with virtually whatever she wants to say or do, no matter how extreme.

itsgettingweird · 13/11/2023 04:57

He's already shown he's weak without this. This is just him proving the country right.

I've no idea what his end goal is

newnamethanks · 13/11/2023 07:02

The whole of the Tory party seems deranged to me, it just varies by degree from Cruella- blatantly exploiting every ism she can dig up - to Gove, apparently rational, but taking an unnecessary stroll through Victoria Station in the middle of an anti government demo. My thinking must be awry; I await Braverman positing the mental realignment 'hospitals' favoured by the Soviets. A couple of months in the Bibby Stockholm should straighten me out.

cakeorwine · 13/11/2023 07:03

Banning marches - the next step in a loss of a right to protest.
Of course, what about static rallies.

People who studied history will remember when the Government cracked down on protest.

Riot Act - Wikipedia

"Our sovereign lord the King chargeth and commandeth all persons, being assembled, immediately to disperse themselves, and peaceably to depart to their habitations, or to their lawful business, upon the pains contained in the act made in the first year of King George, for preventing tumults and riotous assemblies. God save the King."

And of course, the Peterloo Massacre - I do wonder what our Home Secretary is aware of this aspect of our social history and what her thoughts are on it?

O think you'd find she is aware of these events and probably thinks they were a bit soft on the participants. She has her own reality.

I wonder what she thinks of Gandhi?

TodayInahurry · 13/11/2023 08:01

People are extremely upset about the aggressive marches, the shouting jihad, the masked ‘demonstrators’, the intimidation by numbers. This is about telling the UK they will take over, the far left supporters are just useful idiots

Merrymouse · 13/11/2023 08:04

It’ll be interesting to know how the DUP feel about Sunak’s proposed changes to the laws on marches.

Re: Saturday’s March, I thought the government in question was Nétanyahou’s.

However it’s ridiculous to suggest that a station like Victoria should be too dangerous for anyone during a march. If that is the case then the march is obviously not safe and should not be allowed to go ahead.

bombastix · 13/11/2023 08:26

Well she should do. She is utterly extreme. She is busy using this mess for her own interests.

But as for the marches for Palestinians, yes it needs to stop. That's for public order purposes and the police had a difficult decision to make. I don't think next time there will be the same issue.

I don't agree with Braverman. Her article in the Times was lunatic. But there does need to be action about the antisemitism in the U.K. and criminal behaviour. I think a lot of UK Jews are shit scared and we all have to live together.

LlynTegid · 13/11/2023 08:26

Michael Gove is someone prepared to debate and argue with those who have different views, unlike many in politics today who hide from voters. A certain fridge in 2019 comes to mind, and the then Prime Minister in 2017 avoiding a leaders' debate.

bombastix · 13/11/2023 08:28

Gove wants to be Home Sec. I think he's well placed to do it

DuncinToffee · 13/11/2023 08:38

Sky is saying there will be a reshuffle today

BIossomtoes · 13/11/2023 08:38

Of all the senior Tories Gove certainly seems to be the most rational. I think he’d be a decent Home Secretary.

DuncinToffee · 13/11/2023 08:43

But as for the marches for Palestinians, yes it needs to stop.

And how do you propose that?

At the moment the marches are well organised and policed, banning them will not stop them from happening and will just cause chaos.
