If the salary didn’t matter and you could do any job, what would it be?

Just asking because I was thinking I’d probably work with children in some capacity but maybe only two days a week and spend the rest of the time with my own DC. That would not be enough to keep me afloat financially though!

So curious… if money didn’t matter much, would job would you like to do?

Work in an animal rescue centre

shivawn · 07/11/2023 11:26

I love my current job as a nurse so I'd continue doing that.

Hyperion100 · 07/11/2023 11:31

I have a desk job and have done for 25 years.

If money were no object then I always think something outside in nature would be amazing.

It changes weekly but this week after having done so many dog walks in the forest, I can see myself working in forestry.

No idea in what capacity. Just want to spend more time in the forest.

Puffalicious · 07/11/2023 11:33

Working with disadvantaged kids.

wherethewaterisdarker · 07/11/2023 11:34

I am in such a position and am a therapist (part time) and at home with my young children when not doing that. I am extremely grateful to be able to lead such a fulfilling life and conscious of the privilege attached to that.

Of the jobs I've done, working in the kitchen of an old folks home was my favourite. It fitted in perfectly with DC's school hours. Got in at 9, cleared up from breakfast, mid morning tea, prep for lunch, half hour break, clean up from lunch, home at 3. It was a 10 minute walk from my home. Zero stress and the day flew by. But obviously the pay was crap!

Many years later in an extremely stressful professional role with long hours, I would sometimes miss that job!

If I could do any job at all, I think it would be something with animals. They have a really calming effect on me and animal care doesn't feel like actual work to me. (Apart from the cleaning poop part!).

DreamingInPhosphorescence · 07/11/2023 12:37

Working with endangered animals in some capacity.

Clawdy · 07/11/2023 12:37

I'd work in a little independent bookshop in a pretty little village....In my dreams!

IggySlave · 07/11/2023 12:39

Twentymorequestions · 07/11/2023 13:09

I’d be a guide dog trainer or work in an animal rescue centre. One with horses, donkeys alpacas etc, not just dogs or cats.

C1N1C · 07/11/2023 13:10

David Attenborough sort of job

But second best is the job I actually do :)

SeaToSki · 07/11/2023 13:10

Helping people work with their doctors to understand (and maybe solve) their complicated medical problems

I just cant work out how to be paid for it, so will just continue to help friends for free

Changingplace · 07/11/2023 13:13

I’d own a little arts & crafts shop, and have lessons for people to learn different craft skills, and drop in knit & natter/craft & natter sessions.

Naimee87 · 07/11/2023 13:16

The first poster beat me to it, i would set up and run an animal shelter for dogs, mainly small breeds looking for a lovely home in the countryside. That and be a truck driver part-time

EthicalNonMahogany · 07/11/2023 13:17

I'd be a playwright and musician.

Giggorata · 07/11/2023 13:18

Film set design, film locations, etc.
Celebrant/officiant (I'm getting there)
Keener
Radio announcer/ narrator

MarmiteyCrumpets · 07/11/2023 13:19

Run a donkey sanctuary. Or home for dogs or cats or pandas or elephants or pretty well any animal (maybe not crocodiles).

MirandaGreenwood · 07/11/2023 13:22

I'd do bits and pieces - like gig work - rather than having one job.

I'd do a little bit of dog-walking.
I'd make home-made chocolates to sell.
I'd make other crafty things to sell like cards and candles.
I'd run a few small-group women-only exercises classes per week.

In the time around these activities I'd be chipping away at my novel which will, obviously, eventually make as much money as Harry Potter did.

Bliss.

Torganer · 07/11/2023 13:22

Concert pianist
Civil Engineer - but that used to be my job
Maths research academic -no teaching though
Lego architect

EspressoMacchiato · 07/11/2023 13:29

No money issue - I’d own a bookshop/cat cafe

No consequences - a chocolate taster

StuffLoriThangs · 07/11/2023 13:30

Work in a library or a bookshop.

I'd work two different jobs.

Part time in an independent bookshop.

Another part time job at my local garden centre watering all the plants and keeping active.
