If the salary didn’t matter and you could do any job, what would it be?

Just asking because I was thinking I’d probably work with children in some capacity but maybe only two days a week and spend the rest of the time with my own DC. That would not be enough to keep me afloat financially though!

So curious… if money didn’t matter much, would job would you like to do?

I’d work in a cafe - but the cafe would need to have some kind of community purpose, rather than just be a fancy place to eat.

Or else I'd love to be a Window dresser in the big stores. I love a trim up and I'm known for being good at seasonal pimping of the home-I wish I could have turned that into a career.

I was a window dresser in the 80's and I loved it!

Itawapuddytat · 08/11/2023 13:34

The one I currently do: interpreter .

Neddevine · 08/11/2023 13:49

Singer/Musician. Maybe also an actor.

Hubblebubble · 08/11/2023 14:32

Running a coffee shop/bookshop/florist

Legendairy · 08/11/2023 14:51

Party planning or something in music

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 08/11/2023 15:09

Something slow and methodical - restoring paintings or doing stonemason work in great cathedrals.

beguilingeyes · 08/11/2023 15:29

@SprogTakesAQuarry there used to be a cafe near us that was called Eggs and Bread that was a 'pay what you can' for people who couldn't afford breakfast.
I'd love to do something like that.

I would like to be a mentor / trainer in a structured apprenticement programme (that I can design) which allows me to impart my professional skills to disadvantaged graduates.

It will aid social mobility and give young people or career changes a leg up into a fast growing, socially valuable (though not on the face of it) and remunerative area in which we need to upskill lots of people to cope with the changing landscape in a nuanced and intelligent way (on top of AI).

Novelist. Set my own hours, not have to talk to anyone.

Me too. I do know a novelist who has had 3 popular books out. She's only 30. I'm very jealous of her lifestyle!

Theendoftheday · 08/11/2023 15:48

I would be an eventer.

RantyAnty · 08/11/2023 15:49

Exactly what I do right now.

Sellingbedtime · 08/11/2023 15:54

I would own a travelling bookshop

Roste · 08/11/2023 16:02

A gardener in a stately home part time and I would also work in a bookshop with a cafe attached in a little village by the sea. Actually what I would really like to be is a witch so I could spend my time making herbal concoctions and flying around on a broom🧙🏼‍♀️😊

ButterMyParsnip · 08/11/2023 16:02

Working on a production line in a factory. I did it as a backpacker and it was the lowest stress job I ever had. At the end of a shift someone else turned up beside me to take over. Not having a to-do list was a novelty.

hologramvirus · 08/11/2023 16:06

I know a woman who has a forestry logging job, using shire horses! I want to do that!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 08/11/2023 16:07

Professional world traveller. That's a job, right?

CornedBeef451 · 08/11/2023 16:11

I would currently love to be a declutterer. I've run out of easy things to declutter in my own house so I want to have a go at someone else's!

Helping people work with their doctors to understand (and maybe solve) their complicated medical problems

I just cant work out how to be paid for it, so will just continue to help friends for free

I think it's a Patient Advocate. Don't know if it's paid though.

Milkasheika · 08/11/2023 16:16

I'd own a dog grooming cafe

LoobyDop · 08/11/2023 16:17

If I won £100m on the lottery, so could invent a hobby business to play at, I’d have the classic lovely things shop, and spend my time poncing around picking lovely things to sell and rearranging them on the lovely shelves, and have no concerns about whether anyone bought them or not.

If I needed an actual job funded by someone else but could afford to work for very little money, I’d probably do the same job I do now, but for the kind of glamorous/worthy/fun business that pays sod all.

ebts · 08/11/2023 16:18

Luckingfovely · 08/11/2023 12:38

Full time Puppy Cuddler.

Will also accept Kittens.

In my Bookshop-CoffeeShop-Deli combo.

Can I be your business partner, please?

NashvilleQueen · 08/11/2023 16:22

Floristry or horticulture. Something like that.

user1498193554 · 08/11/2023 16:27

Personal trainer for peri women (and beyond ) , I’m currently a burnt out nurse practioner but desperately trying to forge my NHS exit plan

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 08/11/2023 16:29

I’m retired, was a district nurse.
I would be a forensic anthropologist or work alongside David Attenborough in some sort of capacity.
