If the salary didn’t matter and you could do any job, what would it be?

Just asking because I was thinking I’d probably work with children in some capacity but maybe only two days a week and spend the rest of the time with my own DC. That would not be enough to keep me afloat financially though!

So curious… if money didn’t matter much, would job would you like to do?

In a library - helping children and adults discover a love of reading. In fact, my ultimate hope is to one day be comfortable enough to give up the 9-5 grind and do just that.

I'd be a jewellery maker.

Would love to do this too! Especially restoring vintage jewellery

A travel writer - staying in really nice hotels rather than hostels.

If no consequences, a restaurant critic.

Failing that I’d like to potter around in a large old garden, planting and keeping it tidy.

DP has a family building business. People with lots of money and lots of free time buy houses - often listed ones - and decorate them, and then a couple of years later they redecorate them, on and on. They all of them seem to have a portfolio of beautiful properties, most of which are rarely occupied or rented out.

Guide dog trainer also.

Or children's psychotherapist which is what I actually am, the pay is pretty good though so maybe doesn't count for this thread.

I'd want to run a SEN school.

Im a childminder although currently not working as my SEN child has no school place hence the job I'd like. It's shit money and hard work childminding but I do love it.

AceofPentacles · 08/11/2023 10:26

Contracts to go and count seals or rare ferns - then I'd have a few months off before the next job 😝

ThatAlbinoCat · 08/11/2023 10:30

I'd work with animals, in some capacity - a rescue centre, perhaps

Insuranceheadache · 08/11/2023 10:32

I’d work in musical theatre, start at the bottom and work up to being a producer-director.

jay55 · 08/11/2023 10:34

Croupier in a casino.

Kitten fosterer for a cat rescue charity!

I have my dream job, sometimes - editing. I do a lot of academic stuff which is pretty boring, but I get the odd novel and children's book and they are my favourites. I'd do them for nothing!
But I do feel that something is missing, and would like to work with horses.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/11/2023 10:44

A make up artist.
I love make up and to be able to apply it to people and myself professionally would be amazing.

I've already got that one.... we have eight kittens in our spare room at the moment (in spare time).
Backing vocalist for Pink Floyd... or anybody really. All of the fun with none of the attention. Or a cellist. Something musical. Having seen the Eras film I'd like to be one of Taylor Swift's dancers.

weleasewoderick23 · 08/11/2023 11:58

I would love to be a curator in a museum, love the idea of digging around in artefacts!

Failing that, something to do with animals.

RuthW · 08/11/2023 12:15

The one I'm doing. Data manager

Perpetual student. I’d be a barista for six months, then I’d learn carpentry, then maybe I’d go do four degrees back to back, finally do my PhD. Just forever learning and teaching!

I would be a pianist specialising in smoky jazz standards that also did some baroque harpsichord work

I like the sound of this one and just being a music performer in general. I’d love people to come to hear me, listen in awe forgetting everything except the music I play.

Sadly I can’t play the piano!

I'd love to work for an advocacy charity, supporting families who have young people with ASN. I have two ND children myself and it hugely frustrates and angers me that the quality of the service you receive can depend on how articulate you are and how able you are to speak the language of the professionals.
