What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

Reported for personal attack @SirChenjins Nice 👏🏼

I think you've rather missed the point too.

ChampagneLassie · 06/11/2023 19:28

I think you don’t notice the good ones, only the bad. I’ve had…quite extensive facial surgery (nose, cheeks implants, mini face lift) but v few people know. I regularly get eyebrow tattooing and HD and LVL etc. often complimented on my “natural” beauty 🤣🤣🤣

I work with predominantly younger women, and most of them have preventative botox, lip filler, eyebrow tattoos/laminated eyebrows, and fake eyelashes. It's a fashion trend, that's all. I probably looked equally ridiculous with my turquoise eyeliner and mascara, ultraglow blusher and skinny eyebrows when I was their age.

You could wash it off though. Their's could do permanent harm

No point missed 👏

Hmm I'm sorry, but you have, in a rush to state the obvious, Sir

Reported anyway, resorting to personal attack.

SirChenjins · 06/11/2023 19:37

HmmI’m sorry - but I haven’t jane. You can repeat it until it’s time for your next top up, it still won’t be true.

👏

southlondoner02 · 06/11/2023 19:38

Each to their own and all that but I don't really understand what's wrong with having thin lips. Who decided bigger lips are better?

SurprisedWithAHorse · 06/11/2023 19:43

Fillers are temporary. If you hate them, they'll wear off.

It was much worse in the 90s when silicone boob implants were all the rage. Not only did they look every bit as bad, they were actually dangerous. Over-bleached hair that snapped off, too.

Most of the photos look completely normal and the posters falling over themselves to try to make a perfect stranger feel ugly would never notice if they met these people randomly.

If you're truly happy with your choice not to have any treatments, you won't feel a need to insult and abuse people who do. There's massive exaggeration going on as to how ubiquitous this look is anyway. Sure it exists, but in no universe do the vast majority of women look like that. And even if they did, can't say I hate it any more than the planet boobed, platinum Fembot look that most of us have lived through.

Marchmount · 06/11/2023 19:44

My ds has got lips that look filled (his dads genes not mine unfortunately). He was teased for years about it (fish lips etc) and now all the girls in his class are going for the same look. Assume in a few year the fad will end and more natural lips will be back in.

You pointing out that the hyaluronic acid used in filler is synthetically produced. Of course it is, as where else would it come from do you imagine 😀 👏🏻

Stating the obvious, rather pointlessly, Sir

wensleywhale · 06/11/2023 19:49

Have you ever taken a moment to consider why you believe the things you've listed (full lips, full eyebrows, long lashes, non-grey hair, straight white teeth etc) are the definition of 'good looking' and should be aspired to?

Those things signal health. Which is universally attractive

MabelEstherAllen · 06/11/2023 19:50

Here's a before and after. Both with no make-up, and in almost exactly the same light. I think the difference is incredibly subtle - no shadow on top or bottom lip from the lip roll that comes with excessive filler - and I really don't think it's obvious that I've had injectables. I really love a bit of filler: it makes my skin feel healthier, and consequently I look after it/myself better. I'm mid-40s and have had a very very hard few years, in which I lost a lot of weight and, basically, my face fell apart because of it and I aged about 20 years overnight. I don't want to look like a blow-up doll - or any of the other misogynistic accusations being bandied around here. I just wanted to look like "me" again.

@MabelEstherAllen I don't know which is the before and which is the after.

bakewellbride · 06/11/2023 20:02

@MabelEstherAllen I don't know which is the before and which is the after.

I think it’s the bottom one. The bottom lip looks more even and similar size to top lip but top lip doesn’t look bigger. To be fair, it’s a better example of good lip filler.

Imagine starting or joining in with a thread that bashes women’s appearances. Fucking grim. Have a word with yourselves.

That said, I can’t help but laugh to myself that some of the women making these vile comments are doing so while wearing something from Seasalt or Boden 🤣

😂😂😂

I have big lips. They were the bane of my teenage years - I was called “Rubber lips”, “Mick Jagger”, and later on “Blow job lips”. If I could have had a reduction I would have.

Now, finally, I fit in and have lips to die for. I’m all in favour of them.

I’ve got big/full lips too but was just called Rubber Lips. However, I’ve grown into them and never wanted a reduction.

At 52 I still have nice full lips but I’m lucky.

That's exactly what filler is supposed to do. Anyone who says it's so obvious or it looks unnatural or any of that is talking shite and knows they're talking shite.

But I think you guys should stop proving them wrong with all these pics. They think all filler jobs make you look like a puffer fish and haven't got a clue what it really looks like most of the time. So let them carry on thinking they can spot it when they can't!

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 06/11/2023 20:12

@MabelEstherAllen they look very natural and lovely.

There is a huge difference between yours and the ones some women have.

grottyb · 06/11/2023 20:12

@Kittykat9070 I think your lips look gorgeous in the top photo, the fullness in the bottom & the defined cupids bow.

Mydogisamentalist · 06/11/2023 20:15

I think this thread is forgetting that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and not everybody who gets ‘tweaks’ is doing it to enhance their natural beauty.

I have lip filler. I never intended it to look natural! I will put my hands up and say Lana Del Rey’s lips in the Video Games music video inspired me in my young teenage years and I still think she looked gorgeous 11 years later. I want to look like an amalgamation of what I find attractive. That includes heavy tattoo coverage, way too much eye makeup/liquid liner, a wardrobe of entirely black… and yes, over exaggerated lips.

I also have the misfortune of having the slowest metabolism ever so filler takes an age to dissolve. On the plus side I only need to top it up once every year and a half. Swings and roundabouts!

Well obviously in many cases the sort of man they want. We know from the media that women with fillers can attract partners of men who are young, good looking, well off, famous, including premiership footballers, boxers etc. I'm fairly sure these women aren't hankering after Nigel from accounts who (tells his wife) he thinks filler makes them look awful.

I don't know a single bloke who thinks filled lips look even remotely good.

Missingmyusername · 06/11/2023 20:31

I think the women who have posted their lips look great, brave too considering there’s so much bashing going on.
I don’t think the over filled look great, but each to their own. Who cares.

I always struggle with these assertions. How do you know they’re not just being polite and not saying anything to your face? They might even think it looks quite good if they do suspect it but polite people wouldn’t dare to ask. My manners are also such that I would NEVER say “oh yeah you can tell” to someone who told me they’d had fillers and were vain enough to try pushing me to say something. If someone DID push me to say something the ONLY polite thing to say is “oh yes it looks very natural” even if that’s a big fat lie.

They know even less about what it really looks like than women do, and anyway who gives a shit?

lilyroseabell · 06/11/2023 20:42

@Chanelbasketballandchain thank you, I hated my lips before. I have a gummy smile that I've been picked on my whole life, I'm so happy to have a smile I'm proud of.

@wensleywhale nope that's just the shape of my lips. Pic one is a before any filler in 2020. Pic two is a year ago just after I had it first time. Pic 3 is last month (6 months post 8 months post filler)
