What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

Oh and I haven’t noticed this extent of “ tweakments” ( horrible word) when I’ve been in France and in Spain lately. Is it a particularly British thing?

xogossipgirlxo · 06/11/2023 17:31

But I have assumed along the way that women have them done (yes even those who proclaim they look natural or say they went for the natural look or defend themselves as having had a natural looking result) because they want men to look at them and think about oral sex.
And not for any other reasons really.

You really have a problem 😵‍💫

Lots of people saying things like « it’s a dead give away ».

They want to look like they’ve had work done. That’s the point. They don’t want it to be subtle or undetectable.

I do t understand that thinking. Basically they are saying ‘I don’t think I’m beautiful enough so I hide behind fake.’ It’s so sad.

Twillow · 06/11/2023 15:14

I'd say all except the first. That blistered look to the bottom lip, and in 3 the top lips outline is beyond the lip.

Only the last photo has filler, the rest are all mine.

Mammajay · 06/11/2023 17:39

Apparently the aim is to make the lips look like the vulva.surely that is not true??

Tbh I only really see it on Instagram.

But I live in a bit of a yummy mummy part of London where the no make-up look has taken hold, and work in a professional environment where the women really would not be seen dead with lip filler and false eyelashes and the like.

Ooh I guessed right! The last one has a bit of a lift to it which is common with lip filler I think.

I was sitting opposite someone the other day and she’s very beautiful, but when you’ve been looking at her for a bit you notice that her face is tight and shiny and her lips have that tell tale lift / flip. She still looks lovely but just not as natural.

Although I think you definitely can tell when someone’s had filler (unless it’s a tiny tiny amount), most of the photos on here look lovely.

AtrociousCircumstance · 06/11/2023 17:42

I work with a young woman and her lip fillers look really odd. It’s a shame. She must love them but they look bizarre, particularly from the side. She’d look so much better without them.

I thought it was because the cartoony ones are supposed to look like you’re giving someone a blow job, but to be fair sounds like all of this is bollocks because no one can even come up with a consistent explanation of why they’re pornified.

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 06/11/2023 17:44

I'm so confused at what the actress who plays Charlotte in SATC has had done. She is a such a beautiful lady but she doesn't look the same anymore.

Thundercnut · 06/11/2023 17:45

I am a bit naive because I don't spend ages looking at people and thinking "she has had lip fillers"

I don't spend ages thinking about it. It's so grotesque obvious that you don't get chance to do much thinking.

I’ve just seen a girl in Asda with huge lips and turkey crowns.

she was so pretty. Has anyone seen the Russian lip dr? They look like animations their lips just don’t look real!

SkyFullofStars1975 · 06/11/2023 17:47

It's not my personal ambition to look like a blow up sex doll but each to their own.

Mammajay · 06/11/2023 17:47

I would like t delete my post as I think it is offensive..so sorry.

GoodOldEmmaNess · 06/11/2023 17:52

Lip filler is horrible. As soon as I see someone with lip filler I lose a huge chunk of respect for them. Partly because it looks horrible, like they have been punched in the face or stung by a bee. But mostly because it seems so stupid to pump garbage into such an important, delicate and naturally beautiful part of the body.

Lips don't even vary in beauty. They are all lovely (until injected). Only someone with a body obsession (created by social media and our insane market in body 'improvements') could think that their lips needed changing.

MonsteraMama · 06/11/2023 16:58

Fair point, here you go then. Work bog side shot. I still like them. Bring it on, people are getting nasty on this thread.

People always get very nasty on filler threads. It's like they have all this pent up desire to tear strips out of other (younger) women's appearance, but because it would reveal them as spiteful in any other context, they have to wait for a filler thread to release it all. The worst thing is its done as a faux feminist thing with all this ridiculous and patronising fake sorrow. If people feel they need to sneer at the appearance of women who are often young enough to be their daughters, they'd do well to own it and reflect on why that really is.

They are both pigmented parts that get fuller and darker when in the mood. Bit like ‘tricking’ perceptions by dimming the lights to make the pupils dilate - which also happens in the mood.

Female chimps and bonobos backsides plump up and go dark pink which the males get excited about. The artificial backside plumping seems to be a recent thing in humans too but don’t think anyone’s colouring them yet 😂.

Littlelucas · 06/11/2023 18:00

Well all the photos on this thread showing the lip fillers look bloody awful

They don't though. So I guess it's a matter of opinion. Some of these posters definitely look very natural and you would no way be able to tell, you're just coming at them bc they've been brave enough to post a photo and you and posters like you want to take them down a peg or two.

Its ridiculous to say "you can always tell" - what people mean is they can tell who's had too much/obvious fillers. There will be some women walking about with subtle filler and everyone is oblivious. But certain people on these types of threads just won't accept this.

Some posters are just getting frothy bc....I don't know - maybe you're insecure in your own looks? Cant afford it yourself? it speaks volumes about the nasty posters mentality.

Id never have lip filler myself as I have big lips and don't need it but I'd never say some of the nasty things some folk are saying here. It just seems to really trigger certain people...

Burnoutwhat · 06/11/2023 18:01

Sheraprincessofflower · 06/11/2023 16:58

They’re horrible. They make lips look like slugs and even the ‘subtle’ ones look obvious.

No they don't. I'd love to know what other observation skills people have who can supposedly see 0 25ml of filler! It's just so embarrassing for you and other who claim this is the case.

If course we all know what bad filler looks like but the claims that you can see these tiny amours are just not believable.

BansheeofInisherin · 06/11/2023 18:01

@5128gap why is it faux feminist to not want your daughters sucked into this Love Island crap? There is an immense amount of pressure on them because everyone is doing it. There was none on me because i grew up pre Insta.

Meowandthen · 06/11/2023 18:02

MaliciaKeys · 06/11/2023 12:38

I work with predominantly younger women, and most of them have preventative botox, lip filler, eyebrow tattoos/laminated eyebrows, and fake eyelashes. It's a fashion trend, that's all. I probably looked equally ridiculous with my turquoise eyeliner and mascara, ultraglow blusher and skinny eyebrows when I was their age.

The big difference being that you didn’t permanently change how you look.

chaosmaker · 06/11/2023 18:03

Far better to normalise 'normal' looking people in all of our wide variety. I say this as someone who couldn't care less how I look as I don't have to see it and am not in a mirror all day looking at myself.

Crafthead · 06/11/2023 18:03

You could say that about anything you don't like the look of - I once worked with a teacher who complained about having to talk to a (female) parent with facial hair and another that didn't like seeing a hairy mole on the arm of a small child in their class. Sensitive souls both who should shut up and stop being so judgy or at least only do it in their heads. I am far too polite to tell someone I don't like their fake lips, it's up to them if they want to look like a blow up doll crossed with Michael Gove.

janesee · 06/11/2023 18:03

It's hyaluronic acid. Naturally present in our skin, too.
