What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

Fanofan1 · 06/11/2023 11:51

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

They’re horrible. They make lips look like slugs and even the ‘subtle’ ones look obvious.

Howbizarre22 · 06/11/2023 16:59

Just looks so so unnatural & I don’t think those that have it done realise this

PlipPlopChoo · 06/11/2023 16:59

They look so funny.

They look absolutely disgusting and so so ageing. I hate the fake beauty look. Naturally pretty woman that have had nothing done, really stand out amongst the sea of fake looking people.

What should women who aren't naturally pretty do?

(And is the overdone fake look really so ubiquitous where you are that it's the majority, and it's everyone else who stands out? Where is that?)

laclochette · 06/11/2023 17:01

@MonsteraMama you look wonderful and I would bet a thousand pounds nobody here would guess you had had any work done if this wasn't the point of the thread.

There is a lot of terrible work out there, and as others have pointed out, a desperate need for better regulation in the industry - it terrifies me that someone can go on a few days' training and then set up in the back of a nail bar and start injecting; I only go to practitioners with full medical training (doctors or dentists) and a long track record of excellent work. But there's good work out there too and yours is of that camp.

Some really over the top comments on here - vile, disgusting, chavvy

Why does it bother you so much what someone else does, their body, their choice

HausofHolbein · 06/11/2023 17:03

@MonsteraMama

I think yours look great.

Ylvamoon · 06/11/2023 17:04

It's definitely a wird look.

But then, some women like to look like everyone else and call it beautiful because Cloe from next door has the same look ... while others prefer their individuality that is actual beauty.

It the image attached, then would you consider these bad lip filler?

Yes because the woman has perfectly nice lips to begin with! Why would she want to do this?

blacksax · 06/11/2023 17:04

YorkieTheRabbit · 06/11/2023 12:03

I dislike the look too. So much of the lips, eyelashes and makeup I see these days remind me of drag queens 🤷‍♀️

Reminds me of Bratz dolls.

That’s what I was thinking.

I think it’s the “frothing at the mouth” brigade.

Can honestly say I don't look sexually aroused with my everyday blusher and lipstick. I just no longer look dug up.

🤣

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 06/11/2023 17:11

Personally I don’t like them at all. I think they look awful and distort the face.
I can spot them on people (usually women) straightaway.
A friend had them done last week. Her bottom half of her face is bloated, puffy and looks odd. Even her partner told her he didn’t like them.
They are one of the things that need stricter regulations. . It’s not hard to do a course and almost anyone can do it given the opportunity.
Im just hoping this trend dies a death quickly.

millymog11 · 06/11/2023 17:17

I've not read the whole thread.

I am a bit naive because I don't spend ages looking at people and thinking "she has had lip fillers" or studying their face to see if i think they have - call me introspective I'm not that interested.
But I have assumed along the way that women have them done (yes even those who proclaim they look natural or say they went for the natural look or defend themselves as having had a natural looking result) because they want men to look at them and think about oral sex.
And not for any other reasons really.

Having puffed up lips (even if you originally had very thin lips) is just supposed to make people think about using your lips for kissing and is designed to make other people think about sex.

People who say they do it to make themselves look nice are lying. If you are trying to be nice to yourself you can spend the ££££ on good lip care products and lipsticks and in doing that be 110% kinder to your own body.

I could not disagree more. It's not style. I would rather not have all young women looking exactly the same to conform to a porn aesthetic.

The Apprentice last year: every young girl on it looked exactly the same, big pink lips, shiny foreheads, ridiculous high heels on which they could barely walk, heavy makeup, bright pink suits. Except the Asian ones. Who were quickly eliminated.

I can't believe this is what women have to look like in a competition where they are being judged on their brains. Margaret Mountfort must be rolling her eyes.

Meanwhile the men looked like they had just rolled out of bed. Because they can.

The Apprentice hasn’t been a competition judging people on their brains in years. The contestants are nothing like the people that actually excel in the corporate world - no senior female partner at my workplace would be seen dead in a pair of high heels or with lip filler. Ditto senior women (CEOs, CFOs, etc) we work with as clients. It’s unheard of.

The Apprentice is closer to Love Island than it is the real corporate world.

OMG, I can't believe I've just read this utter shit. Maybe the women who have this done have it done for themselves, not because they're trying to initiate oral sex!

Depends how you define bad. They look like you've had filler because of the obvious ridge.

Littlelucas · 06/11/2023 17:22

Ivegotsunshineinabag

Well, you've blown all the "you can always tell" lot out of the water - yours look beautiful and natural. My lips (natural) look like yours and my only gripe is that people sometimes ask me where I get my lips done! I'm like "I don't, honest"! But sometimes I don't think people believe me 😂

Choice doesn't exist in a vacuum though. There are many damaging factors at play here which have lead to women making this 'choice'.

The ridiculous eyelashes like 2 giant caterpillars equally irritate me. Especially when you see them on teenagers 🤦‍♀️

Mine are like that naturally, I’ve been waiting over 40 years for them to come in to fashion 🤣😭

I do agree that there are some women that take it to the extreme but that’s decision and if they like it who are we to judge?

Ive had lip filler in the past and i can assure you i am in no way associated with porn or want to look like a pornstar- that’s extremely small minded of you to think that!

LadyWiddiothethird · 06/11/2023 17:28

Well all the photos on this thread showing the lip fillers look bloody awful.NO they do not look natural. What a silly fashion this is,the sooner it finishes the better and Don get me started on the fake eyelashes, mind you it is entertaining shopping these days, looking at all the sights!

TheRealLilyMunster · 06/11/2023 17:28

I find it disturbing.
Women don't need to look like blow up dolls.

TheGander · 06/11/2023 17:29

Interesting comments about the Apprentice. I noticed a real identitikit look too to the point where I was rooting for the only female contestant who looked like she hadn’t had her lips pumped. It’s really sad how so many are succumbing to this bizarre peer pressure, especially at PPs have said when girls in their 20s look like they have had some kind of lip transplant- like someone else’s lips stuck on their face. Having said that, those who have been brave enough to post their pouts @laclochette @MonsteraMama look nice and natural so it must be a question of practitioners and also the client making realistic demands.

It's not utter shit. This growing trend is largely down to the pornification of society, where women are increasingly encouraged to look like sex dolls.
