What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

I'm willing to bet that none of the women who have lip filler or other tweakments would be happy to look like the majority of the women who criticise and sneer at them either. So each to their own.

lilyandrosa · 06/11/2023 16:31

I think it’s sad to put women down on something that makes themselves feel good…commenting on lip filler is nothing different to disagreeing with someone’s sense of style?

SurprisedWithAHorse · 06/11/2023 16:33

A deliberately fake look isn't a new concept. In the past it was bleached platinum blonde hair and oversized, spherical implants... dresses were often cut to show the fact that the boobs were fake, as they couldn't possibly be that size and hold that shape without a bra if they were natural. Even now, the ombre/balayage hair colouring clearly isn't natural and I don't think it's supposed to look like it is. It's supposed to look attractive, and as though some effort was taken to do it.

Some people like to look unreal. I can even sort of get this, as I often use makeup colours and techniques that make it obvious I'm wearing makeup; I don't always do the "natural look" and even that isn't very natural looking. It's more the "light, nude colours" makeup look. And it takes about 12 products to do fully.

It's not for everyone, but there's no accounting for taste. If you don't like it, don't do it.

TheOwlChronicles · 06/11/2023 16:35

Well, I'm older than you OP and have cheek filler, Botox , lip filler and jawline filler

I literally couldn't care less what any other woman (and it's always certain women) think about that Grin

Honestly people, just concentrate on your own stuff and your own face and try not to concern yourself overly with what others do that don't concern you one bit

winterchills · 06/11/2023 16:35

Agree they are absolutely vile and i can notice them a mile off! They are so distinctive!

Lovethatforyouhun · 06/11/2023 16:36

Its always obvious. Injectors never show side profiles in their marketing.
So much money to be made off our insecurities.

I could not disagree more. It's not style. I would rather not have all young women looking exactly the same to conform to a porn aesthetic.

The Apprentice last year: every young girl on it looked exactly the same, big pink lips, shiny foreheads, ridiculous high heels on which they could barely walk, heavy makeup, bright pink suits. Except the Asian ones. Who were quickly eliminated.

I can't believe this is what women have to look like in a competition where they are being judged on their brains. Margaret Mountfort must be rolling her eyes.

Meanwhile the men looked like they had just rolled out of bed. Because they can.

Froze35 · 06/11/2023 16:38

If I’m honest I’m not a massive fan of the very false looking lips I prefer natural that’s my preference, some like fillers that’s their preference. I would never judge anyone for anything they choose to do to their own face or bodies that’s their business and no one else’s.

Thank you for answering. I wasn't asking to be goady in any way. I'm saving up myself to have a mini facelift as weight loss has really affected my skin but I'm in my late 40s. I was just wondering what the long term issues would be for all the women I'm seeing using large amounts of fillers in their twenties.

I have had Botox myself for medical reasons (TMJ).

I seriously regret getting mine done 🙄

BansheeofInisherin · 06/11/2023 16:45

Does anyone here have dds in their twenties who have fillers, I wonder? And do you feel ok about that because it makes them feel good?

I have DDs in their 20s who are confident and happy with the way they look, without feeling the need to have cosmetic surgery. But they are girls who do things and lead full and interesting lives, not girls who spend their time obsessing about their eyelashes and nails.

PersephonePomegranate23 · 06/11/2023 16:47

Terribly done, so many resemble an allergic reaction and or a marshmallow flump inserted under the top lip.

Yes! Their top lip always look chapped too.

laclochette · 06/11/2023 16:47

I love mine, I use filler to restore my lips to how they looked in my 20s (am in my mid-30s now). I have about 0.5ml added by an extremely experienced doctor who will always under- rather than over-do her clients and I've got large lips to start with so it really isn't much product. Two different lip looks and angles to illustrate!

I see a lot of terrible work about, so don't disagree that when it's bad, it's horrid.

What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

It's not an either/or. This is just a variation of the "pretty OR clever" nonsense.

chaosmaker · 06/11/2023 16:48

I recall reading that it started because puffed up lips is a sign of sexual arousal. Supposed to make us more attractive to men. Or something along those lines.

Nope, that would be lipstick which is there to imitate arousal when blood rushes to your lips in the same way blusher is for the rush of blood to the cheeks and eyeliner to enhance the pupils enlarging.
Lips are not penises.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 06/11/2023 16:50

Can honestly say I don't look sexually aroused with my everyday blusher and lipstick. I just no longer look dug up.

KathrynWheel · 06/11/2023 16:50

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 06/11/2023 12:04

Mine look amazing - thank you very much.

They don't.

CoconutRun · 06/11/2023 16:50

I’ve seen some lips done well, some not so well.

Then I move on with my day.

Gowlett · 06/11/2023 16:51

It looks terrible. I’m glad I had a lovely face in my 20s.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 06/11/2023 16:51

KathrynWheel · 06/11/2023 16:50

They don't.

I think they look very nice and wouldn't guess they've been filled.

And I'll bet the price of a Botox treatment that you wouldn't notice a thing if you saw her in real life, nor even now if you'd seen the photo in another context and she hadn't said anything about filler.

Newphony · 06/11/2023 16:53

They look absolutely disgusting and so so ageing. I hate the fake beauty look. Naturally pretty woman that have had nothing done, really stand out amongst the sea of fake looking people.

BatteredScallops · 06/11/2023 16:54

yellowlane · 06/11/2023 12:42

They can look good. I've seen brilliant results. I've also seen terrible ones too

The examples I have seen on the thread look good. So pps are right- it is when it is overdone it can look very odd. I recall seeing one woman at a party who had so much done she could neither close her mouth or talk properly and was drooling. That can't be comfortable surely?

But i agree with the OP. It is a shame that many (most?) women feel they have to conform to a beauty 'standard' of any sort- be it dyeing hair; wearing makeup (I love makeup but feel I cannot go out without it on); all the way through to cosmetic procedures etc.

Jifmicroliquid · 06/11/2023 16:54

They look hideous and always look fake and in my opinion they make people look cheap and chavvy.

I wish women would accept that they are far more beautiful when they are natural.
Every woman out there- you are far, far more beautiful than those hideous lips and you don’t need to follow the crowd to stand out.

xogossipgirlxo · 06/11/2023 16:55

I wish I posted picture of my lips to ask what you think of them, but afraid to be bashed by mean people. I’m happy with the way they look. Done the filler 2 years ago.

MonsteraMama · 06/11/2023 16:58

Ffsebok · 06/11/2023 15:41

@MonsteraMama They do look great in this pic but typically in real life and especially from the side, they look really odd.

Fair point, here you go then. Work bog side shot. I still like them. Bring it on, people are getting nasty on this thread.
