What is with lip fillers?!? They look so fake and awful

i’m probably showing my age (I’m in my 40s) but am I alone in thinking the lip filler look is just awful?

I see them all over social media and in real life when I’m around people in their 20s. Why? They look so fake.

I know it’s not our fault as women. We’re manipulated into thinking our bodies and faces are never good enough. But lip fillers are so ubiquitous and look so, so bad, I just don’t get it.

@BarbiesWorld is the only poster IMO, with nice filled lips.Would never have known.

The rest are so obvious.

You might with a side view or seeing her in RL.

That's when the shelf looks more obvious, especially in natural light.

@Melodyy I posted a pic of my lips on page 2 of the thread? Wanna comment?

They all look rank. Don't do it!

Agreed.

The women who have them look as if they have also got moustaches.

Kittykat9070 · 06/11/2023 16:03

It the image attached, then would you consider these bad lip filler?

Worldgonecrazy · 06/11/2023 12:42

Exactly! Onlookers see all the angles - it’s a dead giveaway.

Theres also a blur tones to the top lip line - as unwittingly illustrated by one of the posters on here.

Lots of people saying things like « it’s a dead give away ».

They want to look like they’ve had work done. That’s the point. They don’t want it to be subtle or undetectable.

SurprisedWithAHorse · 06/11/2023 16:03

Looking at the photos, I wouldn't guess most of them had been done. I don't care enough about it to learn about all the "telltale signs" (most of which I can't see in the pics anyway). I'm not interested in scrutinising women's faces for microscopic signs of filler or Botox.

I've seen the odd person where it's very obvious; assume that's either a bad job or the look they were going for. If it's obvious work we're looking out for, there are far, far more people with very clearly dyed hair....

Yes and very sore looking.

Maddy70 · 06/11/2023 16:05

My friend has hers done but really can't tell. She was a smoker and has smokers lines. It's done so delicately that it kisy plumps out the lines. She definitely doesn't have a trout pout. Which imo look ridiculous

Gnomegarden32 · 06/11/2023 16:05

I find the idea that one must support young people getting lip fillers/botox as it helps them compete with others who are more genetically fortunate bizarre and depressing. The problem is society placing so much worth on women’s looks in the first place, mostly because it makes a lot of people a lot of money.

LizzBurg · 06/11/2023 16:07

The first time or even the twenty first time might look amazing but when it all goes Pete Burns/Lesley Ash/Meg Ryan/Ella from MAFS there’s no hiding it.

The ridiculous eyelashes like 2 giant caterpillars equally irritate me. Especially when you see them on teenagers 🤦‍♀️

Ditto

They look ridiculous

You also posted about having cancer which I suspect will make some people reluctant to comment.

Kittykat9070 · 06/11/2023 16:11

@TheresaCrowd oh probably sore as just done! Swelling goes down fairly quick.

Oblomov23 · 06/11/2023 16:12

I don't like lips or eyelashes trends atm.

Fairyliz · 06/11/2023 14:46

Well to be honest I’m not very keen and it’s not something I would do.
However I also don’t like seeing women with huge bottoms squeezed into tight black leggings; but I assume we are not allowed to mention that.

You can mention what you like - and to prove it, you have actually mentioned that.

However it’s not really the same thing, is it? A woman dressing her natural body comfortably but in a style you don’t think attractive versus a woman feeling she literally has to alter her face medically to be acceptable.

I think they look fab! Really well done and not over filled

Lionoso · 06/11/2023 16:17

Ihateboris · 06/11/2023 14:08

I can answer this. I've had lip filler done in the past. In my mind I thought it looked great, in reality (as confirmed by friends and family), it looked awful. I decided to have it dissolved and now have lines around my mouth that weren't there before. However, I prefer the lines and natural looking lips to the trout pout 😡

Thank you for answering. I wasn't asking to be goady in any way. I'm saving up myself to have a mini facelift as weight loss has really affected my skin but I'm in my late 40s. I was just wondering what the long term issues would be for all the women I'm seeing using large amounts of fillers in their twenties.

I have had Botox myself for medical reasons (TMJ).

grottyb · 06/11/2023 16:21

Some look ok in photos but normally when the mouth is in motion something looks off. Plenty of celebs have ones you can tell despite having access to the best practitioners.

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 06/11/2023 16:22

@TheresaCrowd yes, because all the women who are so quick to cast judgement on those of us who have tweaks have either

  1. no compassion or
  2. no concept that other women may be on a completely different journey to their lives. They assume they know the reason for the use of fillers I.e. to adopt some beauty standard they don’t approve of.

I’m gonna end up with tattooed eyebrows, permed and dyed eyelashes, fillers, Botox, fake breasts and fake nipples.

I didn’t start this journey until I had to amputate my breasts, but now I’m here I’m going to enjoy every single tweak and change I make.

I hope that every women who judges me never has to walk in my shoes.

QPWO · 06/11/2023 16:22

I dislike the obviously done look, but I do sometimes wonder about getting the smallest possible amount at some point - I’m not a smoker but I have two quite deep ‘smokers lines’ on my top lip and I hate them! Don’t mind my other wrinkles, but these ones really jump out at me and I think are older looking than my actual age. However from some of the comments here it sounds as though even a minimal amount might lead to deeper lines in the long run? It’s definitely not something I’d want to have to commit to long term or to risk lipflation…

Thundercnut · 06/11/2023 16:23

Kittykat9070 · 06/11/2023 16:03

Yes. The lower image has the 'moustache' I was talking about.

Thundercnut · 06/11/2023 16:23

(But I think all lip filler is bad lip filler, so what do I know).

ThatAlbinoCat · 06/11/2023 16:25

They look bloody stupid. The same with massive false eyelashes, ridiculously long (false) nails. It is women who put pressure on other women to look a certain way - every magazine is full of fashion/diets/make-up.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 06/11/2023 16:26

WorkBase · 06/11/2023 14:59

I think the fact that it’s ‘obvious’ in some people is often deliberate. People want you to know they’ve spent good money on them, along with the lashes, fake tan, nails etc… It’s buying into ‘the look’ and the lifestyle. I think many devotees think it projects a glamorous self-image of someone who can afford to take care of themselves.

Actually, to be fair, I think this is a good comment. I’ve worked with women who’d say they were going for x treatment and didn’t hide it.

A friend of mine has a beauty salon with sun beds as one of the reasons for her and aesthetics too. I don’t use it (various reasons) but she makes a living from it.

Of course they don’t hide it- it’s a status symbol to be able to spare the money to keep up this look. Same as having a flash car.
