How did you meet your current partner?

I'm not on any dating apps currently but have been in the past. I have started a new job and joined a couple of classes but there are very slim pickings there.
So just curious to know where you met your current partner? Online or in Real Life?

I met my late husband on Tinder, he was the first person I chatted to on there, we messaged for a while then met up. We were together for 7 years and married for 9 months.

CeriB82 · 04/11/2023 19:23

He was my salesman when I ordered a new car. The professional emails quickly turned to flirty texts!

Labour ward! We both work there Smile coincidentally also where I was born.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/11/2023 19:29

Conference.
Three weeks later he turned up in a lab class I was teaching.

Never turn down social invitations . The last time this was brought up on here most people said they were introduced by friends or family , or at events hosted by those people .

2chocolateoranges · 04/11/2023 19:31

In our local pub.

DramaAlpaca · 04/11/2023 19:35

He worked with my ex. We used to socialise in a big bunch every weekend and it wasn't long before I realised I liked my now DH (since pre-internet days) more than my ex... Grin

Butterscotch81 · 04/11/2023 19:38

@Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 thanks for the tip 😊 I have been trying to say Yes to most things so that I'm not doing the same thing.and meeting the same people all the time

I met him at a Halloween party of a mutual friend. In 1993. I liked the look of him as he was trying to open a bottle of white wine in the kitchen, so I went up and said 'Can I have a glass?' He said 'Certainly, when I can get this bloody thing open.' I said 'Why are you using a corkscrew on a screw-top bottle?'. We went back to his that night and we've been together more or less ever since. Rented together from the following Feb and bought a house together in May 95 where we still live.

Whateverfuckingnext · 04/11/2023 19:41

This.

DH and I met through a mutual hobby / volunteering we both did (but separately), but I was away from what I usually did in that hobby - having accepted an invitation from a friend to help out / volunteer in a slightly different way.

Plenty of fish! Said I’d never do dating apps but had a drunken night and added myself. That was 2017 and we were married in 2022 ☺️

menopausalmare · 04/11/2023 19:43

Match.com. He was #3. After meeting 40 plus dates, I re-visited him and realised I missed a good'un.

BudgieBardot · 04/11/2023 19:45

eHarmony that was 12 years ago. Married with two children now

Butterscotch81 · 04/11/2023 19:47

@Manadou aww that's a lovely story, so heartwarming 😊

I met my ex at a function being held at a nice hotel to celebrate a specific event. Relationship lasted 7 and a half years, engaged for 5, had DC.

Now I'm single again, I've started attending lots of networking events, both for my sector and others, as I'd like to meet someone with a similar professional career, plus I always choose ones where I'm interested in the subject matter.

So far I've met a couple of nice guys for coffee following the event, and will keep going with it until I meet someone who things can become long-term with.

I've binned off online dating; I did it for a few months this year, July-September, and it was like being in a cesspit looking for a unicorn.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 04/11/2023 19:48

Online. Happn.

bratchlocks · 04/11/2023 19:49

Met my current husband on Plenty of Fish over 10 years ago, moved in after 6 months and have been married for 7 years. Not sure I'd try online dating, to meet the next one though. It was bad enough then but sounds like it's got much worse now!

Farcry66 · 04/11/2023 19:50

Karaoke night, I'd organised a group of friends from work to go out for the evening, one of them asked if they could bring a friend along, same profession, different work place.more the merrier I said.

Couldn't take my eyes off him, sang a duet, fell in love! Sadly, he was married, so I thought that was that. Met at a couple of other karaoke nights, kept it purely platonic. He message me about 4 months after we'd first met telling me his wife had been cheating on him for 6 months and had walked out.

Been together 4 years now, baby due in the next 3 weeks, just bought a house and weddjng booked for April!

Butterscotch81 · 04/11/2023 19:50

@Starseeking that made me laugh, "like being in a cesspit looking for a unicorn " 😂😂

POF gets a bad rep/rap generally but a friend met and married her DH from there too.

annonymousse · 04/11/2023 19:51

We met in a chat room associated with a divorce forum. We had a ldr for 4 years and then I moved to be with him. Together 19 years and married for 3.
